But this seemingly bitter and reductive slogan is actually quite clever. When taken literally, "school sucks" is perhaps the most accurate and astute synopsis of the system I've ever heard. Here's why... 1. The twelve-year process of an American public education has a dramatic effect on the mind of a child. When we first enter school at age six, many of our best personal attributes are already in place. We are curious, innovative, unique, creative and hopeful in ways that we will rarely be able to replicate throughout the rest of our lives. But over time, school sucks those essential attributes out of too many of us...and replaces them with predictability, obedience and apathy. 2. The public school system sucks off the productive capacity of hard-working people. The system is coercively funded through taxation. In other words, whether public education succeeds or fails (spoiler alert: it fails) at providing real education to the public, the cost goes up every year. There are no refunds. The END of Public Education? 1. END: It's over, irrelevant, useless, needs to be done away with. Does more harm than good. 2. END: (As in means to an end) We'll also explore the true intentions behind the system, which have very little to do with real education. There is substantial evidence that its failure to educate is no accident. Above all, this is a show about what one might do about these problems...

 065: Bureaucrats Are People Too! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2770

In today's installment, I interview Steve Ressler, founder of the government employee social networking site govloop.com, and organizer of the Government Doesn't Suck Rally (October 30th, Washington D.C.). I happen to have a show that suggests the government does suck, so I thought we could bounce some ideas off each other. I skipped past a number of arguments and questions to deal specifically with the non-aggression principle. While I thought this would be little more than an amusing discussion, it actually evolved into a larger examination of empathy, forgiveness, and differentiation within the bureaucratic structure.  061: Escape From Imaginationland (3 of 3) - The Most Successful Criminal Gang In History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3630

Critical Thinking Question: What is the real purpose of government? Topic: This (third part of three) is the continuation of a two-part discussion I recently had with Wes Bertrand. On September 18th, I tried to weave a series of loosely related thoughts together into one topic, while driving. I wasn't thrilled with the result. I eventually contacted Wes to help me try to make sense of it all. This is an examination of how fantasy is used to manage personal and/or political anxiety, the relationship between the personal and the political, and how outrage and attack are employed to deal with the disruption of fantasy. Discussed Today: -Trust in government coming back? -Faith and Force -Violence as virtue -The historical purpose of government -People in NYC loved the Gambino Family. Why? Please visit schoolsucksproject.com for full show notes, references and links.
