 Salem's Lot (1975) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:48:55

It's that time of the month again, the boys are hopped up on smelling salts and ready to talk Stephen King (Carrie, IT, The Shining)! This month it's cult classic, Salem's Lot or 'Salem's Lot, whichever you prefer.  In this podcast, your favorite goons review both the book and movie, so you can don't have to (they even touch on Jerusalem's Lot and One for the Road). Just sit back and enjoy impressing your friends or the host at your local pub's Wednesday night trivia with your knowledge about a horror movie that is so old, the Sony Walkman was only months old at the time of its release.  This made for TV adaptation was directed by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist, Life Force) and stars David Soul (Starsky & Hutch, Magnum Force) as young, brooding novelist: Ben Mears. Ben returns to a town from his youth, only to find that it is riddled with vampires! This marks the film debut of the iconic, Mr. Barlow, whose visage you've likely seen on a crusty punk's leather jacket sometime in your life. 'Salem's Lot marks King's second novel, following his seemingly overnight success with Carrie.  Fred Willard (Anchor Man, Best in Show) somewhat steals the show as Mr. Crockett in his silky shorts, while James Mason (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Lolita, North by Northwest) plays Mr. Barlow's familiar: Mr. Straker. A young Bonnie Bedelia (Die Hard) plays Susan Norton, Ben Mears' love interest. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Bonus- Pet Sematary Trailer Review (w/ Special Guest Becki from Teenage Werewolves Horror Film Fiend Club) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:17

Pet Sematary will always be near and dear to us at Slashers. As you may recall, it was our first episode. Naturally, we have been following the production of the new remake very closely. It seems that the newest trailer reveals a remarkable twist to the source material. Becki is kind enough to discuss those changes, their impact, and how it affects our excitement of the upcoming film.  Stephen King, Kevin Kölsch, Dennis Widmyer, Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, John Lithgow, Horror Movies, Horror Film, Book Adaptation, Wendigo, Oz The Gweat and Tewwible, Zelda, Gage Creed, Ellie Creed, Louis Creed, Rachel Creed, Jud Crandal, Victor Pascow, Burial Ground, Movie Trailer, Trailer Reaction, Movie News --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slasherspod/support

 The Craft (1996) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:23:16

To further celebrate Women in Horror Month (and 90's Horror Week), we gave Bryan the week off while Jake and Ciara reviewed The Craft. The film stars Robin Tunney (End of Days) as Sarah,  Fairuza Balk (The Island of Dr. Moreau) as Nancy, (a pre-Scream) Neve Campbell as Bonnie, Rachel True (Sharknado: Heart of Sharkness) as Rochelle, and (a pre-Scream) Skeet Ulrich as a creepy jock DOUCHEBAG.  In this episode, we discuss the comparisons between this film and Hocus Pocus (1993) and the works of J.K. Rowling. Sarah, whose mother passed away during her infancy, is a new student at a private school when she shows innate magical abilities, resulting in a duel involving wizardry and snakes. Sound familiar? We also rank it upon the pantheon of Slashers greats! If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Overtime: Bundy Bonus | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:49:29

First and foremost, if you stumbled onto this episode because you liked Netflix's true crime documentary series, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, this might not be the episode for you. This was originally conceived as a weekly episode, but the boys pretty much absolutely, kinda entirely hated the series, so it was demoted to the first ever Slashers Overtime (bonus) Episode! (Frankly, they enjoyed the trailer for Zac Efron's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, more than the 4+ hour documentary) When listening, please bear in mind the focus is on the documentary series itself, not necessarily its accuracy or the substance therein.  Please forgive any inaccuracies, any misinformation provided by Slashers or reiterated from the series is meant solely to torment Mr. Bundy in hell.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Mimic (1997) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:34:19

As a precursor to Women in Horror Month (February), my wife was kind enough to guest host an episode of the show. In this episode, we discuss Mimic, the sophomore effort of director, Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim), starring Mira Sorvina (guys, did you know the lady from Romy and Michele's High School Reunion won a friggin' Academy Award?).  The film features an ensemble cast including a pre-Thanos Josh Brolin, a pre-The Walking Dead Norman Reedus, and Doug Jones (Hellboy, The Shape of Water, Hocus Pocus). Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3, Legion, Gothika) is great as ever in this film, as Leonard. Giancarlo Giannini (Hannibal, Darkness, Dracula) plays Manny, the grandfather of Chuy.  Until researching the film, Jake had no idea that it was based on a short-story, so guess what! He reviews that too! The writer of the screenplay, Matthew Robbins, went on to write Crimson Peak. That being said, he already had some serious writing credits having done Dragonslayer and *batteries not included.  The film eventually had two sequels: Mimic 2 and Mimic 3: Sentinel. Lucky for you, we don't go into those installments-- for now! Let us know if you want us to review those films or any others in the future by reaching out to us at slasherspod@gmail.com.  You can always find us on our social media: Instagram, Twitter, Slasher App: @slasherspod Facebook: /slasherspod Reddit: u/slasherspod https://www.youtube.com/c/slasherspodcast --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slasherspod/support

 C.H.U.D. (1984) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:28:13

A recent (well, not SO recent since this movie came out in 1984) article in a New York newspaper reported that there were large colonies of people living under the city... The paper was incorrect. What is living under the city is not human. C.H.U.D. is under the city. On this episode, the boys review C.H.U.D. and its many meanings. Jake has had a fondness for this movie since stumbling onto it based on the drummer, Dr. CHUD of the now defunct reincarnation of The Misfits from the 1990's. Bryan thought it was a transmittable disease. The film stars Home Alone stars John Heard and Daniel Stern, along with near-omnipresent character actor: Christopher Curry (Red Dragon). Heard later went on to appear in Sharknado, Cat People, and Too Scared to Scream. Sten predominantly stayed in comedy, but did appear in Otis and Leviathan. John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane, Arachnophobia, ParaNorman) plays a bit part, before being eaten alive in a diner.  We basically ignore C.H.U.D. 2: Bud the C.H.U.D., as it is virtually unwatachable.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  The Faculty (1998) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:32:00

It's a hat trick, ladies and gentlemen! Our third official episode is live! This week, we discuss the Robert Rodriguez cult classic, The Faculty. Rodriguez was right off his smash hits El Mariachi, Desperado, and From Dusk Till Dawn. This was also in that sweet spot before he launched the much maligned Spy Kids trilogy.  We review the parallels to The Breakfast Club, address each and every sci fi homage in the movie (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Puppet Master, Men in Black, The Thing, Alien, etc.), and we rank the film in comparison to our prior episodes.  Casey Connor is played by a pre-Lord of the Rings, post-The Good Son, Elijah Wood. Wood has some serious horror credentials, having starred in Cooties, Maniac, and Come to Daddy.  Perhaps the most horror-credentialed actor in the film, Clea DuVall, plays Stokes. She went on to be in Ghosts of Mars, The Grudge, Zodiac, Identity, American Horror Story, Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, and The Astronaut's Wife.  Josh Hartnett was all the rage in the late 90's and early 2000s. He starred in 30 Days of Night, The Black Dahlia, and Halloween: H20.  Jordana Brewster plays Delilah Profitt. We can't tell if that is a pun with prophet, as she is an aspiring reporter, or profit because she will stop at nothing for the story. Brewster later starred in the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre., before selling her soul to the Fast & Furious franchise  Piper Laurie, who played Margaret White in Carrie, has some tremendous moments in the film. Robert Patrick, of T2: Judgment Day fame, puts his steely gaze (pun intended) to good use as the coach of the football team, which in this small town where the pigskin is God, makes him a Patron Saint. Famke Janssen (X-Men, Goldeneye, Lord of Illusions) plays the piteous Miss Burke, who becomes a bold and empowered woman, albeit with a severed-head crawling across the pavement.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  An American Werewolf in London (1981) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:28:43

Sure, the first full moon of the year, called a "Wolf Moon," is not until 1/20, but what kind of monsters would we be if we made you wait for this episode any longer? This week, the film is An American Werewolf in London. Writer/ Director, John Landis (Twilight Zone, Blues Brothers), paired up with Rick Baker (The Wolfman, Men in Black, Star Wars), whose effects earned the first ever Academy Award for Best Makeup, for this comedy-horror classic that arguably started a somewhat low-key werewolf craze throughout the 80s (including titles such as The Howling, Silver Bullet, Teen Wolf, etc.). Other notable accolades for the film include Best Horror Film and Best Makeup awards at the 1982 Saturn Awards, with nominations for Best Actress and Best Writing. The film stars acclaimed TV actor, David Naughton, alongside Jenny Agutter and Griffin Dunne, all of whom do a great job of making sense of a whirlwind of laughs, love, and carnivorous lunar activities.  We have a brief, post-mortem discussion on the ill-fated sequel An American Werewolf in Paris.  Also, we announce the first ever Stabley Cup winner! The award for best movie, which we will be crowning week to week.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Pet Sematary (1989) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:23:12

In this first official episode, your gregarious goons go over Pet Sematary, Pet Sematary II, Stephen King's original novel, and briefly look at the upcoming remake. We analyze what from the original source material would make the new film superior because as it goes with books, "sometimes read is better." Director, Mary Lambert, was predominantly a music video director, and her style shows in this film.  The first film stars Dale Midkiff (Time Trax, Air Bud 3, Dexter) as Louis Creed, a young father trying to attain the semblance of normalcy in his new home. His well-meaning neighbor, Jud Crandall, is played by the legendary Fred Gwynne (The Munsters, My Cousin Vinny, Fatal Attraction). Denise Crosby (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dolly Dearest, Deep Impact) plays Louis' long-suffering wife, struggling to cope with the change in setting, and her family dynamic.  The sequel, Pet Sematary II, starred Edward Furlong, Anthony Edwards, and Clancy Brown. It has some redeeming qualities, despite many thinking it bastardized the source material.  The Ramones performed the title track for the first film and the theme for the sequel, Poison Heart.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
