"Cystmas!" Wk. 4, Gene Jones & Jason Douglas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:24:30

Alright, metadata gods. Now is the time. Bring me all of the new listeners I have craved this year. To wrap up "Cystmas," we have interviews with two actors from the film Cyst.  First up, we have Gene Jones, who has been in The Hateful Eight, No Country for Old Men, Sacrament, and both Red Dead Revolver and Redemption. We discuss his tremendous stage experience, and how that has shaped him as a film performer. Gene is kind enough to share some of his ritual in getting ready for an audition, and tools he uses to get attention and show the mastery of his craft to casting directors. We talk inspirations for his performance and how being prepared gives him opportunities to perform as an actor.  We also have an interview with Jason Douglas, who voices the Almighty Beerus, from Dragon Ball Super! ...as well as literally a thousand other characters such as Krieg from Borderlands, Miles from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Gildarts from Fairy Tail, Miche from Attack on Titan, Claude from Black Butler 2, Azuma from Deadman Wonderland, Masaoka from Psycho Pass, and Aokiji from One Piece. He also acted as Satan in Preacher, Tobin in The Walking Dead, Detective Munn in Breaking Bad, and the cabbie in No Country for Old Men.  Jason shares so much about the history of his work in anime, that was alien and fascinating to me. Again, organically the discussion focused a lot on being a journeyman or "blue collar actor," as Jason put it. He has a very pragmatic approach to his work and some words of wisdom to anyone getting into the industry.  Find Jason on Twitter @MrJasonDouglas on Instagram @jasondouglas2040 and on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/JasonDouglasFans I want to thank both of these men who serve as inspiration, both in their craftsmanship and also their attitudes of gratitude to be working in an industry they love.  I would also like to thank you, our fans, for sticking with us on a great month, which was admittedly a bit of a departure from the regular show. We are so excited for the year ahead and we hope you will continue to follow us into what we have dubbed: The Year of Goonthulhu!  "Cystmas!" Wk. 3, Eva Habermann & Discussion, "Is Horror Misogynist?" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:31:33

We have a bonus sized Cystmas/ Christmas special for you this week, goons! Jake interviews Eva Habermann, star of Lexx, Under ConTroll (Troll World), and of course-- CYST! We discuss her working relationship with George Hardy and how his cameo in Under ConTroll ended up being responsible for Cyst ever even being conceived. It is remarkable just how many cast members and crew overlap from Under ConTroll to Cyst.  Ade discusses whether or not horror is misogynist. She gives several examples as to how/ why horror is actually empowering to women. Some lesser known films she discusses are American Mary, The Blackcoat's Daughter, and Starry Night. Then, of course, we discuss the big mamajama that started it all: Black Christmas (1974, no... not those abominable remakes! Those we talk about on the Patreon Bonus).  If   you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,   please  let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  "Cystmas!" Wk. 2, Travis Ayers & Bloodbeat | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:27:19

On the second week of Cystmas, my goon love gave to me... an in-ter-view with the pro-ducer! You like how I typed that out syllabically for the two people who read these episode descriptions? Because you... you're worth it.  Travis is a true goon and supporter of our show and it is so righteous to be able to support his film, Cyst. Please stay tuned in weeks to come, because there will be news on distribution. In this interview, we discuss everything from the film Society, to different charity work Travis has done.  You can find and support Travis on Instagram @travis_ayers Doug talks the 1983 masterpiece, Bloodbeat, by writer/ director: Fabrice A. Zaphiratos. This film is astounding. It centers around a girl, and every time she has an orgasm, a ghostly samurai kills someone. Where does this take place? Wisconsin? Who's in it? No one you will ever search on Google, and thereby no one who will generate any traffic for this episode. The film can be found on both Tubi and Amazon Prime.  If   you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please  let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. We are happy to announce this month on Slashers, we are hosting Cystmas! That is right, each week of December, we will feature an interview with a member of the cast and crew from Cyst (2020).  You can find the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWZuxRssLUk and the Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/cystmovie/ This week we have writer/ director, Tyler Russell. We discuss his career this far, with how enriching it was to work with actors like Fred Willard and Gene Jones. We talk about how he came to befriend George Hardy, star of Cyst and the infamous Troll 2. Tyler discusses influence in the film making process and the film itself. Finally, we discuss what comes next for our new favorite director.  Find Tyler on Twitter @imtylerrussell and on Instagram @tyler_russell_film Then, the hosts discuss Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman! The often ignored sequel to the killer Jack Frost film, not the Michael Keaton one.  Doug talks about the behind the scenes special effects, creature conception, and their execution.  If   you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please  let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Is This a Torture Porn? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:48

You know the meme. The one with the guy gesturing and the butterfly and whatever. You are clearly hip to the interwebs, otherwise you wouldn't have found our stupid show.  On this episode, Adrienne discusses what is and what is NOT "torture porn," as established by David Edelstein.  We discuss movies ranging from Hellraiser, to Terrifier, with Hostel and Martyrs in between.  No hidden track this week. Jake was on vacation and had a totes gnar migraine, so he gets bonus points for just getting this episode out. He is also the one typing this in the third person, so he thereby loses any and all bonus points.  If  you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,        please  let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  The Greasy Strangler & Lame Genie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:14:58

On this week's episode, Doug discusses the film The Greasy Stranger and its eerie similarities with two films he directed: Gross House and Don't Touch That Dial (both available on Troma Now & B-Movie TV).  Jake has the pleasure of sitting down with video game music maestros, Lame Genie. We talk everything from their favorite horror films, to pro wrestling, with Taco Bell patronage in between.  This week's "Hidden Track" is Lame Genie! OBVIOUSLY! It is their cover of Jason's theme from the NES Friday the 13th.  Slaughterhouse & Artist, Pierre Mortel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:11:13

This week, more than most, shows why being a Patreon patron and getting the perk of early access is so ideal. When we recorded, we were awaiting the election results, which are now old news. Enjoy our trepidation at the real life horrors of politics.  Doug presents on the 1987 film, Slaughterhouse. The film was written and directed by, Rick Roessler, who is still interested in making a sequel.  Jake does an interview with Pierre Mortel, artist and scribe behind Sad Boy and Billy Boo. You can find his art on instagram @pierremortel. He is also very active on reddit and has his own subreddit. We discuss his creative process and the challenges he has putting out the strip in both English and French. You can find his merch at https://pierremortel.bigcartel.com/ This week's "Hidden Track" is by German horror punk band: Midnight Haunt. The song is called Frozen off their upcoming EP.  Dead by Daylight & Director, Chris McInroy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:40

This week's episode offers a broad spectrum, from gaming to short, gorey horror films.  Doug presents on the video game, Dead by Daylight. Originally released 6/14/16, the game has exploded into a multi-platform juggernaut, offering goopy goodness from the Nintendo Twitch to the PS5, with PC in between. Doug talks about the gameplay, the game's style, and its consistently high quality downloadable content.  Jake does an interview with director, Chris McInroy. You may have seen some of Chris' work, including We Summoned a Demon, Death Metal, Bad Guy #2, and his new short: Gorgar. Chris talks about the film making process, his sources of inspiration, horror movie tattoos, and his upcoming projects (which rumor has it blends werewolves with Die Hard).  You can support Chris by checking out his amazing work at: https://vimeo.com/chrismcinroy This week's "Hidden Track" is Scissorhands by The Horrorscopes, off their new record: HEXES.  Halloween III: Season of the Witch & Calabrese | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:15:01

Somehow I roped Jordan, from The Cult Sounds, into hosting my show. He talks about the catastrophic, yet highly entertaining Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, while I talk about the band Calabrese and interview their drummer, Davey. Halloween 3 is often maligned for a lack of Michael Myers. To this I say... and? We both defend the film, both in its astonishing confidence, but also its competent execution. Aside from some sloggy editing, the film holds up from the masks to Tom Atkins ruling every moment of screen time. Calabrese are a horror punk trio from Arizona, who are inconquerable and incredible. The band has been putting out consistently good (and arguably their best lately) music for over 15 years. They do a tremendous job with their merch, music videos, and crowd interaction. Please check then out basically everywhere @calabrese666 You can find Jordan's short film here: https://youtu.be/v7BaFKnzYXs and his band here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg_jqTVWsjQ&feature=youtu.be If  you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,    please  let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Pathology & All Hallow's E.P. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:07:24

Liking the new format? Well we hope so. If not, please sign up to our Patreon and I will then take your input more seriously.  This week's episode is on Pathology and All Hallow's E.P. Adrienne introduces us to the 2008 Milo Ventimiglia and Alyssa Milano film. She even deep dives into the content and the poem from the film. The film was directed by Marc Schölermann, who does not have a Wikipedia page. It was written by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the dup behind the masterful Crank series with Jason Statham.  Jake then rambles on about AFI's finest E.P. to date. Yes, before you even ask, he talks longer than it would take you to listen to the goddam E.P. in its entirety. Can you believe this release just celebrated its 20th anniversary last year? We also talk Blaqk Audio, Xtrmst, and about 50 other bands that we enjoy and have seen over the years. Which host has the most embarrassing music-related tattoo? Be sure to check out the "Hidden Track" this week. It is certainly... unique... and may have been recorded in an SUV inside a garage, neither of which were climate controlled.  If  you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,   please  let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Evil Dead & Army of Darkness (Finally...) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:29

We have talked about doing these movies before Jimmy was even on the show. Even if you hate every actor, every line, every plot point, I think that a certain amount of respect is owed to the film making and ingenuity that went into each installment of this franchise. Simply point, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are some legitimate legends... even if we include the woeful Spider-Man 3 and its 15 villains.  Predominantly, we focus on Evil Dead and Army of Darkness, which are Jake and Jim's favorites respectively. We also talk about Evil Dead II, the TV show, Ash vs. the Evil Dead, comicbook adaptations, video games, and even tabletop games! This week's "Hidden Track" is Stray the Course, with their song Better Off Lost.  Orozco the Embalmber & Blood Machines | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:53:58

We are all in with this new format, and hope you are too. Originally, we planned to test this out and workshop it a bit, but as some of you know, we had a serious issue with a memory card that somehow snapped in half inside an adapter (which was undamaged). As a result, we lost four episodes and in order to maintain our release schedule, we adapted.  This week we are discussing two movies that are both horror, yet somehow polar opposites. The first is Orozco the Embalmber. This film was by Kiyotaka Tsurisaki and follows a Colombian embalmer named Froilan Orozco.  Then, we move on to Blood Machines, by French hivemind: Seth Ickerman. In reality, Ickerman is both Raphaël Hernandez and Savitri Joly-Gonfard. The duo has worked together on multiple projects and this film is actually a sequel to a music video. That project was a collaboration with Carpenter Brut for the song Turbo Killer.  The "Hidden Track" is We're Wolf from Germany.  New Format! Nightmare Creatures II & Deadeus | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:07:16

Hey gang! We have a new format that we are very excited about. Basically, the show will be more show and tell, with each host bringing their own horror media selection to talk about. We figure this will eliminate simply repeating a movie beat by beat, and introduce you to more stuff like a sassy middle-aged lady's book club... but with blood! As I put it, "this is Slashers, your new favorite podcast about your new favorite horror media!" This week, Doug is on the show. The feedback was great following his appearances on the Humanoids from the Deep and the Blood Harvest episodes. If you would like to see more of Doug on Slashers, or make him a permanent host--- LET US KNOW! We also were fortunate enough to get an interview with -IZMA-, the creator of the game. https://www.instagram.com/iz.ma/ ; https://izma.itch.io/deadeus ; https://www.izmaillustration.com/games If you would like to enter to win a deluxe copy of Deadeus, just post your favorite Gameboy game and tag both @slasherspod and @iz.ma on any platform!  The Descent (2005) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:40:46

This was formerly a Patreon Bonus episode. While it may seem like a total copout, it has always bothered me that this episode was behind a paywall. Plainly, I think that my wife, Ciara, and Bryan's wife, Michelle, did a great job as "Slashettes." If you like what you hear, please let us know. It would be fun to con them into trying this again.   The movie is The Descent, an all-female horror film for the all female hosts. The film was written and directed by Neil Marshall. Marshall made a name for himself with Dog Soldiers, before going on to do films like Doomsday, Centurion, Tales of Halloween, and the 2019 Hellboy movie that like five people saw because they watch Stranger Things. He also directed some big-budget TV with Hannibal, Westworld, and Lost in Space.  The music was by David Julyan, who also did The Prestige, The Descent Part 2, and The Cabin in the Woods.    This week's "Hidden Track" is Viqueen! https://viqueen.bandcamp.com/ If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
