 UnforMETable, Episode 23: Ellis Valentine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1541

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. Drafted a round before Gary Carter—and out of the same high school as Darryl Strawberry—Ellis Valentine had the type of talent that had people touting him as a future Hall of Famer. Valentine’s career got off to an impressive start with the Montreal Expos before some combination of injuries, off-field problems and an on-field beanball led to the precipitous downslide of his career at the tender age of 26—and right around the time of his acquisition by the New York Mets. Hear about Valentine’s fascinating career—including a memorable television appearance—and his impressive post-baseball work.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 21: Big Pete breaks records, the Cubs break hearts, and APOTO gives back | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4857

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, the Mets are on a roller coaster and we’re along for the ride. Big wins and big losses have dominated, but Big Pete has broken the Mets season home run record and we are so happy for him. Next, we welcome Sara Sanchez, host of the fantastic Cubs podcast Cuppa Cubbie Blue. We talk rivalries, old and new, how our respective playoff runs feel, and how we cope when our teams are made up of people we can’t cheer for. Sara wrote an emotional must-read about Addison Russell’s return to baseball for Bleed Cubbie Blue earlier this year. Then, we share our Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. And finally, we wrap things up with a special announcement - we are pledging to donate to the National Domestic Violence Hotline for each home run the Mets hit in the month of September and we want you all to join us! The amount can be small or large, public or private, all that matters is that we support this amazing organization. Follow us on Twitter for more updates and to let us know you’re on board! Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. Walker ultimately fought his way to a role on the Chicago bench, but he started and made a notable appearance in a memorable game in Mets’ history in 1986.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 20: Wilmer Flores, Backstreet Boys, Kangaroos, and some baseball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3651

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we’re pretty jazzed about how well the Mets have been playing, including the starting pitching stepping it up, Amed Rosario continuing to roll, Juan Lagares’ strong week, the solid addition of Joe Panik, the potential returns of Brandon Nimmo and Jed Lowrie, and more. But most of all, we’re excited about Pete Alonso breaking the single-season home run record for an NL rookie.  Next, we expand upon a previous discussion about attempts to expand the game to a younger audience, this time focusing on Major League Baseball’s partnerships with Facebook and YouTube, weighing the pros and cons of broadcasting games on those platforms.  UnforMETable, Episode 21: Mike Jorgensen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1564

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. With Marcus Stroman, Steven Matz, and Joe Panik on the scene, the current Mets feature an inordinate number of players on the team with New York connections. Today we look back a player the Mets drafted straight out of Francis Lewis High School in Queens in 1966—Mike Jorgensen. Hear about Jorgensen’s first tour of duty with his hometown club—how he missed out on being a part of the 1969 Miracle Mets, and was traded for to the Expos for Rusty Staub. He enjoyed the best seasons of his career in Montreal, then endured a career—and life—threatening moment in Texas before returning back to the Mets, where he had a couple of memorable moments in the early 80s before finishing his career with the rival Cardinals.
