UnforMETable, Episode 22: Chico Walker

Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast show

Summary: Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. As the Mets welcome the Cubs to town in a pivotal series with playoff implications, we look back at a utility player who divided the bulk of his major league career between the two franchises—Chico Walker. Hear about Walker’s extensive time in the minors—including his participation in a game that made professional baseball history. Walker ultimately fought his way to a role on the Chicago bench, but he started and made a notable appearance in a memorable game in Mets’ history in 1986. Eventually, Walker found his way to the Mets, where he finally received the most playing time in his career—albeit for The Worst Team Money Could Buy.
