Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 23: Smell ya later, 2019 Mets | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3690

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. First up, Brian and Chris discuss the end of the Mets’s season in real time, as the Brewers defeated the Reds to clinch the second Wild Card spot. A discussion of what a ‘successful’ season means ensues, as does a look ahead to next season’s roster construction for what is likely the first of 20+ times. Next, they discuss the (hopeful) end of the Mickey Callaway era, and look back at what has been a truly disastrous season from the Mets’ skipper. Finally, the boys have a discussion of Pete Alonso’s likely Rookie of the Year and Jacob deGrom’s hopeful CyYoung Season, and talk about how both players are truly at the top of their games, and how fun that is to see. Chris’s Music Pick: The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Lime and Limpid Green Brian’s Music Pick: Oliver Messiaen - Quartet for the End of Time You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 26: LIVE at Mikkeller for #Dollars4Dingers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2572

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we come into your feeds with a live episode from Mikkeller at Citi Field where we express our unending gratitude to our generous listeners and friends for a successful #Dollars4Dingers fundraiser. We also talk about Jacob deGrom’s likely repeat of the Cy Young Award, Pete Alonso’s Rookie of the Year season, and get input from fellow members of the Amazin’ Avenue community about what they would like to see the Mets prioritize in the offseason.  We then wrap things up like we always do with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. (This week all of our co-hosts have a very unsurprising joint Walk-off Win.)  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 26: Doug Flynn | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1665

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. Doug Flynn spent the first two years of his major league career as a member of one of the greatest teams in history—Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine of 1975-76.    With the late-70s Mets flailing and feuding with their biggest star, Flynn would come to the Mets as a piece in one of the most infamous trades in Mets’ history—the Midnight Massacre that saw Tom Seaver sent away from the franchise. After a rocky beginning, Flynn settled in as a light-hitting middle infielder with an impressive glove. Flynn was a favorite of both manger Joe Torre and the fans for a moribund franchise, and in 1980 became only the third player in team history to take home a Gold Glove for his work at second base. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. First up, Brian and Chris celebrate the fact that the Mets are still in this, just 10 days out from the end of the season. The schedules for the relevant Wild Card teams are discussed, and the Atlanta series looms large for next weekend. Next up, we talk Coors Field and baseball fans in different cities and their sometimes extreme behavior towards Mets fans. Finally, we answer an email that touches on the Noah Syndergaard / Brodie Van Wagenen beef over Wilson Ramos, Rene Rivera, and Tomas Nido.  UnforMETable, Episode 25: Mike Jacobs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1641

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. Drafted in the 38th round in 1999, Mike Jacobs had a long route to the majors, but eventually got called up to the Mets in August of 2005.  Despite homering in his first major league at bat, the team saw Jacobs as a temporary solution, and planned to send him right back down to the minors. However, thanks in part to the intervention of future Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, Jacobs stayed with the big club—and had an epic September. Jacobs looked like he might be part of a core of young Mets stars, with David Wright and Jose Reyes—but he would soon become a key part of a trade that would bring Carlos Delgado to New York instead. Next up, the state of the bullpen is discussed, with particular frustration at how Mets fans have been frustrated at the state of the bullpen since the off-season. Finally, we play a round of ‘what if we were Mickey Callaway?’ and talk about how the Mets should approach the final weeks of the season.
