Recap of Fights during week Beltran beats Moses to win WBO lightweight title (ESPN Friday Night) (Fightnews.com) In his fourth world title try, 36-year-old Ray Beltran (35-7-1, 21 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over former world champion Paulus Moses (40-4, 25 KOs) to claim the vacant WBO lightweight title on Friday night at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. In a tough, gritty fight, the 39-year-old African sharpshooter Moses busted up the face of Beltran with jabs and right hands, but Beltran battled through the blood, rallied to win the late rounds, and pulled away to a 117-111, 117-111, 116-112 victory. Next up for Beltran could be defense against WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko on May 12 in Madison Square Garden. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/19566 ( Ray Beltran Boxrec) Garcia TKOs Rios in ninth By Miguel Maravilla at ringside Former world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (34-1, 20 KOs) scored a ninth round knockout over former world champion Brandon ‘Bam Bam” Rios (34-4-1, 24 KOs) in a WBC welterweight eliminator Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Feeling each other out in the early rounds Garcia boxed as Rios stalked. Garcia began to let his hands loose in round three as Rios continued to press. Closing the fifth round Rios and Garcia had a good exchange as both had some words after the bell. Rios roughed up Garcia on the inside as he backed him to the ropes continuously. Garcia was sticking and moving past the halfway point landing flush as Rios continued to stalk. In round eight Garcia had a good round jabbing and countering but in the ninth round Garcia landed fully extended flush right hand as Rios hit the canvas and got up staggered referee Kenny Bayless waved off the bout at 2:25. Danny Garcia Boxrec: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/429442 WBC champ Benavidez dominates Gavril in rematch (Showtime Undercard Garcia vs Rios) By Miguel Maravilla at ringside (Fightnews.com) WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) scored a one-sided unanimous decision over Ronald Gavril (18-3, 14 KOs) in their rematch on Saturday night at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Benavidez boxed behind the jab as Gavril pressed. A right uppercut followed by a left hook staggered Gavril in round four and Benavidez stayed on top of him. Benavidez continued his dominance of Gavril picking him apart with body shots and following upstairs busting his nose. In the championship rounds, Gavril rallied some, but it was too little, too late as Benavidez kept his distance and fought conservatively in route a clearcut decision. Scores were 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/672259 (David Benavidez BoxRec) Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas (21-3, 10 KOs) stopped Philadelphia’s Ray Robinson (24-3, 12 KOs) in an IBF welterweight eliminator. An overhand right by Ugas in the opening round sent Robinson to the canvas as he got up both fighters finished the round trading away. Things got wild at the end of round four as Robinson and Ugas traded, Robinson hit Ugas clearly after the bell knocking him down. Referee Robert Bryd deducted a point. In the seventh round, Ugas dropped Robinson for the second time as he got up but Ugas continued to attack referee Robert Byrd waived the bout at 1:05 of the seventh. Yordenis Ugas BoxRec: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/541777 Ortiz-Alexander battle to a draw (Fox Saturday night) By David Finger at ringside ( Fightnews.com) In front of 5,087 Southwest fight fans at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso Texas, former world champions Victor Ortiz and Devon Alexander battled to a twelve round majority draw in an action-packed brawl that featured a contrast in styles between the slick boxing Alexander and the aggressive Ortiz. Nonetheless, although Ortiz was game throughout the fight, he seemed to have dug himself in a deep hole early on as Alexander peppered Ortiz with jabs...

Why NOBODY is Betting on Deontay Wilder (the greatest Heavyweight of all time... JUST ASK HIM) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6471

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs) has no doubt in his mind that IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) is avoiding him. He places both Joshua, and his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, on notice. Wilder will first have to get past undefeated Cuban puncher Luis Ortiz (28-0, 24 KOs) on March 3rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight will be in heavy demand if Wilder wins his upcoming fight, and Joshua wins his his unification with WBO world champion Joseph Parker (24-0, 18 KOs) on March 31 at the O2 Arena in London. "I want him just as bad as everybody else wants him. If it was up to me, we would've been fighting two years ago. I've been calling this man out. When they hyped him up and said he was this, said he was that. I'm the type of person that I get happy for other people. With me and my happiness and me being successful, that's all up to me. It ain't up to nobody else," Wilder said. "So, when I see other people doing great things, when I see good things coming to other people, I get happy for other people. It's a hard thing for people to get happy for other people because things don't happen for them but I'm not like that because I know my blessings will sure enough come. All I got to do is keep working." In the opinion of Wilder, Joshua's handlers are simply motivated to build up his record against safe opponents in order to avoid the possibility of a loss. He plans to keep himself in the loop, by winning fights, in order to force that Joshua showdown to happen. "I come in peace all of the time but with him, I don't think Joshua wants to fight me. His promoters don't want him to fight me. They're on the goal of trying to build this resume, saying they want to be the first billionaires, stuff like that. But doing that, the plans all end with me," Wilder said. "All roads lead to me. I'm not going nowhere, no time soon. They know black don't crack. So, I'm going to be around for a long time. I ain't the best heavyweight in the division. I'm the best heavyweight on this earth. I'm just waiting on the opportunity to prove it."

News Of The Week!!! Danny Garcia: I Needed a Break Mentally, Physically From Boxing “I got a much-needed rest,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com. “I feel good, I feel fresh and I’m motivated, excited to go out there.” “I was champion five, six years,” Garcia said. “It’s a lot of pressure. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication. Sometimes it’s good to just let your body rest and let your hard work show [in] your life, and that’s what I was doing.” “If you don’t have those things, you can’t be a top-level fighter. And you’ve just gotta know how to control it – know when to turn it on and when to turn it off. I had to just relax a little bit to make the comeback.” Garcia isn’t concerned about ring rust holding him back when he encounters Rios, who’s a big underdog. “I’ve been boxing for a long time,” Garcia said. “I’ve just gotta make sure I get some good sparring in, like I’ve been doing already, to knock off all that ring rust in the gym. But other than that, I feel good. I don’t think that’s gonna be a problem.” Horn's Trainer: After We Stop Crawford, Experts Must Give Credit! Jeff Horn (18-0-1, 12 KOs) may have never had the chance to “achieve greatness” against Terence Crawford had he not agreed to an April fight in Las Vegas, his trainer Glenn Rushton says. “There’s things that can be done but you put this one off and Crawford goes in a different direction and then we miss the opportunity to achieve greatness. We never make it. Then we’ll never know whether we would have beaten him. We want the big fights. If we’re going to fight him, we may as well fight him while Jeff’s in his prime,” Rushton said. “The only way you can get recognition is to go over there and fight the guy that most people regard as the best fighter in the world and stop him. If we do that ... I’m hoping they’ll sit up and actually finally acknowledge that Jeff is a great boxer,” Rushton said. WBC Prez: We Support Wilder in Marijuana Case - He's Not Guilty! World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman has announced that his organization will fully support their heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, after the recent court ruling that the undefeated fighter received for possession of marijuana. Sulaiman makes it known that there won't be any kind of punishment for Wilder from the WBC. According to numerous reports, a municipal court judge sentenced Wilder to 60 hours of community service for misdemeanor marijuana possession. Judge Ricky McKinney found Wilder guilty Thursday and ordered him to perform the community service at a local YMCA. Wilder received a 30-day suspended sentence and two years of probation. Joe Smith is Slated To Return To The Ring in May Most likely Smith (23-2, 19 KO's) will get a tune-up bout before going back into the deep waters of the light heavyweight division. "Look, it's always a fight but it's going to be a fight I'm going to base around him, I'm going to create a show for him," admitted DeGuardia. During Smith's layoff, a lot has happened at 175. Andre Ward announced his retirement from the sport. Ward vacated all three of his world titles, and now there are three new world champions - as Artur Beterbiev now holds the IBF belt, Dmitry Bivol is the champion of the WBA, and Sergey Kovalev has the WBO's title.
