Canelo is on steroids... allegedly! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4248

CARSON, CALIFORNIA – WBO super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue made his U.S. debut in style Saturday, hammering seventh-ranked Antonio Nieves by a sixth-round technical knockout to defend his title for the sixth time. Inoue, 24, controlled the bout from the outset, knocking his 30-year-old American opponent down in the fifth and didn’t let up the following round. After the sixth, having seen enough, Nieves’ corner threw in the towel. All three judges had Inoue comfortably ahead 60-53 through the sixth at StubHub Center. “It wasn’t the sweetest of wins, but I’ll take it and build on this for the next one,” Inoue said. “There wasn’t much I could do when he was running from me the whole time. “I managed to get in shape despite being in a different environment here in America and I felt sharp.” Inoue had a strong second round, when he had Nieves backed into the corner where he threw a flurry of punches to decimate the challenger. But Inoue, so locked into the fight, mistook the 10-second warning with the bell at the end of the round and laid off Nieves. “I was into it — too into it, actually,” Inoue said. “It was kind of a waste, I’ll admit that.” Nieves wasn’t spared much longer, however, when Inoue floored him in the fifth with a hard left to the body. Nieves could only flee as Inoue tried to finish him in the sixth and was saved by the bell, his camp telling the referee that Nieves’ night was over. Inoue took his record to a perfect 14-0 including 12 knockouts, Nieves now 17-2-2. Inoue’s next opponent could be Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, the WBC champion in his division who was on the same card this night. In the main fight, Srisaket knocked out Nicaraguan hero Roman Gonzalez in the fourth round to hold on to his title.

Conor McGregor’s claim that he made Floyd Mayweather ‘fight like a Mexican’ in their Las Vegas super-fight last weekend. Following his tenth round defeat, the Irish UFC star claimed that he took pride in how he had forced Mayweather to go on the offensive in the later rounds, rather than relying on his trademark defensive style. “I turned him into a Mexican tonight; he fought like a Mexican,” McGregor said shortly after the stoppage.

McGregor signs as Pro Boxer... Permanently! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3155

LAS VEGAS -- In the end, the equation we all knew coming in turned out to be true: The best boxer in the world beat one of the best mixed martial artists in a boxing match. How we got there, however, was completely surprising. In his return from a two-year retirement, Floyd Mayweather improved to 50-0 with a 10th-round TKO over an incredibly game Conor McGregor in their pay-per-view superfight at T-Mobile Arena. But the storyline was just as much about McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion, in defeat than it was about the 40-year-old Mayweather in victory. McGregor, 29, who was making his debut as a boxer, never fought reckless or overly aggressive, in contrast to his prediction of a first-round knockout. What he did was present Mayweather with a poised and credible challenge, teasing a bright future in the boxing game should he consider it.

 #MMA McGregor & Mayweather & BETTING | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3368

The betting odds for the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor showdown seem to have shifted a bit after the recent ruling by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) allowing the fighters to use 8-ounce gloves in their junior-middleweight fight. Boxers fighting over the 147-pound welterweight limit are usually required to wear 10-ounce gloves, but the NSAC voted unanimously to grant a one-time exception to allow 8-ounce gloves in the Mayweather-McGregor fight. William Hill US moved McGregor’s odds to plus-425 (bet $100 to win $425) from plus-450 two weeks ago
