We've been fans of Hollywood-based rockers Steel Panther since around 2008...and we've watched them go from selling out clubs in LA and Vegas, to taking on festival crowds all over the world...and through it all, they have stuck to their guns and not surrendered to those who may be a bit more delicate in nature...you know...pussies. And now they have a new single that pays tribute to "the best year ever", titled "1987"...they are set to drop a new albums "On The Prowl", next month...and then they're hitting the road across America and Europe!!! We caught up with frontman Michael Starr this morning to fins out more!!  

Today was definitely one of those "huh...that's certainly f**ked up looking" kind of days where the items on The Adult Toy Price Is Right was concerned. Weird? Yes! Somewhat troubling? Yes!! We had the chance to talk to guitar legend Steve Vai about his latest album. "Vai/Gash" and the story behind it is better told by the man himself:  “This record was written and recorded in somewhat of a stream of consciousness in 1991 within perhaps a 2-week period as an answer to my desire to have a particular kind of music to listen to when I was riding my Harley with my friends.  It’s reminiscent of a certain type of rock music I enjoyed as a teenager in the 1970’s.  These recordings sat on the shelf for over 30 years and are being released now in 2023.  Here’s the story…Around 1990, I was overcome with a desire to rip out what I thought would be a straight-ahead type of rock record that contained the kind of music I wish I had to listen to when I was that teenager ensconced in the biker culture.  And then I met Johnny “Gash” Sombrotto.” John was born in Queens, New York and as a youth was an avid motorcycle enthusiast.  In 1977 at the age of 21, he endured a serious accident that caused his body to catch fire while plunging 30 feet onto a barbed wire fence.  Vai wrote in the liner notes, “The doctors told his family that he had third degree burns over 60% of his body, and that if he even survived, there was a strong possibility that he would lose his right arm and left leg.  While in the Burn Unit, he endured excruciating pain, especially when given the intense daily cycle of hot baths for his burns.  He soldiered on, and after a month he was finally discharged from the hospital.  Luckily, no limbs were amputated.  He was, however, left with a partial left ear and layers of skin grafts over his neck, arms, legs, and entire chest.  The stories he told about his recovery and the excruciating pain involved were crushingly gut wrenching.  But he survived, and eventually thrived again.  He made his way out to Los Angeles in 1982 and got right back up on his motorcycle.” Vai met John through a mutual friend, Mark Cimino.  They bonded over biker culture, and he chose the name “Gash” as a nickname." He continues, “…something in me wanted to get him in the studio and see how he would belt over these biker type songs I had demoed, but nothing could have prepared me for the voice that came out of his mouth.  I had to think, of course he sounds like that because that’s him, confident, authentic, fearless but with a light-hearted intention.  This was the voice I wanted to hear wailing over these slamming rock tracks.  I was stunned.  Around that time frame I was also starting to launch work on ‘Sex and Religion’ and was hoping to eventually record more than the 8 songs I had laid down with John for an alternative project, but that was proven impossible.  On September 7th, 1998, two days after my father had passed away, the phone rang, and it was John’s beloved girlfriend Nancy. Her voice was quaking, and I somehow knew what she was going to tell me. ‘John was in a bike accident and was killed’.” After three decades, Steve Vai has finally shared this master with The World.  In his opinion, “He would have absolutely been the greatest rock lead singer you would ever want to know.  All the elements were in place, but he was gone. Disheartened, I put the entire project on the shelf, and would listen to it at least once a year for the past 30 years, especially around the anniversary of his passing.  Then recently something compelled me to want to put it out now. I wish you would have had a chance to get to know John.  I believe you would have loved him just as we all did.  For now, he is ‘In the Wind’.”

Since 1994, Mitch Holthus has been the voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, the phrase “TOUCHDOOOOOOOWN KAAAAANSAS CITY!” echoing across the city with every game we play! And now that the Chiefs have their eyes on the playoffs, and hopefully the Super Bowl, Mitch stopped by the show to talk about tomorrow’s big playoff game against Jacksonville at Arrowhead, how he was accosted by Aussie journalists at the Super Bowl…and help warm up Johnny’s seat on the bandwagon!!

Comedian and Friend of the Show Josh is having a hell of a last few weeks...not only his he heading out on the road, he's gearing up to compete on America's Got Talent All Stars...but then there's the fact that his cabin in Colorado recently burned to the ground...so I think it's safe to say that our friend has had a lot on his plate. But, lucky for us, he had a little time to give us a call this morning to discuss everything from the cabin fire, AGT, weed and what might be the best idea for a Hallmark movie ever!!

While we are a rock & roll station, we here on the morning show are fans of all kinds of music...and we know a legend when we have the chance to talk to one. Such is the case with country legend Wynonna Judd. Over 30 million albums sold as a solo artist...but alongside her mother, the late Naomi Judd, she was part of one of the biggest country duos of all time, The Judds...releasing mulitple gold and platinum albums and 14 number one hits. The pair were set to embark on a farewell tour before Naomi's untimely passing in April of '22...but Wynonna has decided to carry on the tour, and pay tribute to the music she created with her mother....and she called the show this morning to tell us all about it.

We here on the Morning Show have been friends with Whitfield Crane and the boys in Ugly Kid Joe for over three decades now...and, trust me, we've seen and done things in those three decades. And now, the band has a new album out, Rad Wings Of Destiny...and this morning we talked to Whit about the bands first US Tour in TWENTY SEVEN YEARS and it's bringing the band to KC May 15th at The Truman!!

The Chiefs are continuing their march to the Super Bowl this Saturday afternoon against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional playoff...and when it comes to all matters football, we rely on the wisdom of former Chiefs QB, now CBS analyst, Trent Green to break it all down for us!! And, as always, Trent gave us all of the insight we needed!!

Local KC business entrepreneur Behman Zakeri grew up in the 80s obsessed with the 1985 film classic, The Goonies...so much so that recently, he plunked down almost $1.7 million to buy the Astoria Oregon house featured in the film!! We caught up with Behman this morning to find out all about his plans to restore this iconic house to the way it was in '85, and his plans for it's future!!  

There is one thing you can always count on when you talk to Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, you're gonna get opinions....and Dee has a lot of 'em. And we love him for that. And with the band looking forward to their induction into the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame, we talked to Dee this morning about that, and a myriad of other subjects...and as always, it was a hell of a ride!!

When you decide to break into someone's house, you are always going to take the chance of it not ending quite not you wanted....ESPECIALLY when the house you happen to break into belongs to pro-wrestling legend Hacksaw Jim Duggan...and HE happens to be holding a loaded .44 Magnum!!! My guess is that pants shitting ensued. We got Hacksaw on the phone this morning to find out all about it!!

We first met comedian Carlos Mencia right as his career was set to take off...then we watched as he landed his own Comedy Central show, starred in his own award winning comedy specials, and appeared in movies like "The Heartbreak Kid"!! And since he's rolling back in to KC in a few weeks to perform 3 nights at The Comedy Club of Kansas City, we knew it was time to catch up!! And we quickly found that he's still primed and ready to offend everyone who needs offending!!

KC native and Friend of the Show, Rudy Reyes rose from a troubled childhood that landed him and his brothers in the Omaha Home for Boys to, in 1998, In 1998, joining the USMC and was ultimately serving in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the 1st Battalion Recon...eventually being part of the book and HBO mini-series, "Generation Kill"...and that is just scratching the surface of his story! And now he's part of the new FOX reality series, "Special Forces: World Toughest Test"...and he gave us a call this morning to tell us all about that and the myriad of other things he has going on!!
