Gab & Jam Ep 117 Haters Are Your Elevators- Negative Comments Are Your Proof Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:15:08

Gab & Jam Episode Ep 117 Haters are Your Elevators: Negative Comments are Your Proof Video Description This is a follow-up episode in response to the trolls that where on our Instagram comments related to a free download that we were offering aspiring, fellow D.I.Y. Rock Stars, called “15 Tips for Better Band Photos” (http://bit.ly/betterbandphotos ). We have addressed part of our sentiments in “Failures Are Your Friends” ( http://bit.ly/Ep108failurevid), but this is yet another angle on receiving negative criticism. We also give you 4 tips for dealing with this. #haters #criticism #success #prejippie #bloomingprejippie #diyrockstar 4 Tips for Dealing with Fault-Finding Fans: 1. People don’t spend too much criticizing folks who aren’t doing anything. (In other words, this is your proof that you’re doing something that deserves notice.) 2. See if their criticism can help. (This is THE best revenge!) 3. Revisit your “why.” (This is so that you’re not tempted to get discouraged.) 4. Even if you are aware that you could have done better, remember our new favorite saying: “‘Done’ is the new ‘Perfect’” and get that shit published. (You can always do better with the next one, but don’t stop producing no matter what!) What do you think? Have you turned someone’s negativity into a win for you? If so, we’d love to hear your thinking. Please share it in the comments below.  Gab & Jam Episode Ep 116 Shut Up And Sing- Cancel Culture And Artist’s Political Views | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:19:54

Gab & Jam Episode Ep 116 Shut Up and Sing: Cancel Culture and Artist’s Political Views Video Description We are in a very different artistic/political climate than we have been used to. And it is true that an artist can risk his/her musical viability when they express their honest political opinions—either inside or outside of their art. So, given that there is much to lose by doing so, we have to ask—and answer—the question of whether or not artists should candidly share their political views. Here are some examples of artists who have paid the price: 1. Dixie Chicks—that’s where the name of this episode is derived from 2. Neil Young 3. Taylor Swift 4. Gayle King 5. Kanye West On the other hand, here are some artists who have benefited from doing so: 1. U2 2. Kid Rock 3. Ted Nugent 4. Eminem Here are some things to consider when deciding which road to take: 1. Are you seeking the widest possible commercial opportunities? If so, you may not want to block yourself off on one political side or the other for fear of not getting mainstream support. 2. Are so steep in your politics that it expresses itself in every part of your art naturally? If so, then let it fly, because you are not going to be happy UNLESS you express it. 3. Take a position that you know won’t win you any fans from the opposite team, but will be wildly popular with your current fanbase. What do you think? Do you believe it’s worth it for artists to express their political views in this age of cancel culture? Either way, we’d love to hear your thinking. Please share it in the comments below.  Gab & Jam Episode Ep 118 Coronavirus Canceled Our Trip to South By Southwest; Now What? Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:09:54

Gab & Jam Episode Ep 118 Coronavirus Canceled Our Trip; Now What? Video Description As you may already know, our major trip for this year is to Austin, Texas, for the South By Southwest 2020 conference. Needless to say, we were taken aback, since just a week ago, South By Southwest had said that they wouldn’t cancel. Here we were, in the middle of packing and there was no conference to go to. The Coronavirus caused the city of Austin to declare a state of emergency and the conference could not go on. As you might imagine, we have plenty to consider, as we are decide what to do next. We decided upon the following strategies that helped us change our perspective when major plans change suddenly. 4 Tips for Dealing with a Change in Plans: 1. Don’t over-exaggerate its meaning. (God wants what’s best for you and your creative empire. There WILL be other opportunities to showcase your ideas.) 2. Find quality alternatives. (In our case, we thought about going to other synch and/or music conferences, but we’re afraid that travel to it and/or the conferences themselves would be similarly affected. However, we have decided to take a creative and productive stay-cation, where we can refresh blog posts, landing pages, and clean out and organize our creative spaces.) 3. Start planning for next year. (Hell, yeah, we’re planning to attend next year! And the way it stands, there is a possibility that our tickets will be deferred for next year, if they honor their word. So, we’ll start early to get the hotel that we REALLY wanted for a better price than we were going to this year. 4. Keep moving toward your goals. (We’re not going to let this be our crowning moment; the fact that we DIDN’T get to South By Southwest and reminiscing over what COULD HAVE happened. Instead, we are focused on finding other activities we can do to network, partner up, and pitch our songs. We know that this is just a blip on the screen and that there will be more, more, more meetups, conventions and opportunities, if we keep moving in the right direction.) Has the Coronavirus affected your journey to building your creative empire? If so, we’d love to hear your thinking. Please share it in the comments below.  Gab & Jam Episode 114 Two Critical Activities For The D.I.Y. Rock Star Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:12:20

Gab & Jam Episode 114 Two Critical Activities for the D.I.Y. Rock Star Description While it is tempting to sit in your comfortable/cozy space and simply create your art, it is actually counter-productive to achieving your goal of building your creative empire. What do we mean? Check out the discussion to find out. You MUST commit to a regular practice of both creating and promoting. –It’s not going to promote itself! –There’s this age-old question about whether a tree that falls in the forest that is NOT heard by anyone, if indeed it actually happened. With your music and with your desire to share the passion that you poured into it with someone other than your cat and your mom, you MUST commit to sharing it regularly. Here are some tips to make sure that you keep your commitment to yourself of doing BOTH creating and sharing. 1. Schedule a regular time for both (creating and promoting) 2. Have a social media presence established that interacts with people in general (as a friend) 3. Also have a social media presence established that showcases your art 4. Look for opportunities to share your art (Facebook groups, live shows, radio play, reviewers) 5. Celebrate ANY wins (social shares, comments, placements) 6. Stay persistent (no matter what) What do you think? Do you believe that it’s worth it to keep what you’ve created to yourself? If so, we’d love to hear your thinking.  Gab & Jam Episode 110 Does Artist Image Mean More Than Music For The DIY Rock Star? Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:20

Gab & Jam Episode 110 Does Artist Image Mean More than Music for the DIY Rock Star? Video Description This post is in response to some snarky comments we received when we were encouraging folks to download our resource “15 Tips for Better Band Photos” ( http://bit.ly/betterbandphotos ). There were more comments that talked about how having “good” music was the best—and sometimes ONLY—way to find success as an artist or a band. It is our contention that against the cliché we’ve all heard far too many times, as consumers “We always judge a book by its cover”! How’s how and here’s why. Here are some examples that help confirm our position: 1. Elvis 2. Beatles 3. Jimi Hendrix 4. Prince 5. Led Zeppelin 6. David Bowie 7. Madonna 8. Lady Gaga 9. A.k.a. “The world vs. Ruben Studdard” Effect What do you think? Is there music that you like and have not been influenced at all by anything beyond the music? If so, we’d love to hear your experience. Please share it in the comments below.  Gab & Jam Episode 107 Goals “20 For 2020” Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:25:56

Gab & Jam Episode 107 Goals “20 for 2020” Video Description Our goal is to look at what we committed to improving—or starting—what we actually did and what we didn’t and, finally, looking at ways that we could have improved upon the results. This episode is a direct response to a practice that I learned about by listening to the “Happier” podcast, hosted by Gretchen Rubin. Rubin co-hosted the episode with her sister, Elizabeth. It was so fun and inspiring that it seemed like a less intimidating way to set goals for the new year. So, I decided to try this with my buddy/my pal/my hubby, since many of my goals include him. We’ve decided that the best reason to set goals for a new year—and, sometimes, these may take the form of New Year’s Resolutions—is to find areas of focus to improve upon. Further, the end of the year is a great time to reflect on your progress of the prior year and to set some ideas for improvement for the next year. Since we are all human and we are going to never be perfect, but we can become better at the things we care about if we set those intentions. To refresh your memory on our goals from last year, check out our “19 for 2019” episode http://bit.ly/19for2019vid We are looking to share reviews on upcoming episodes of the show, so please leave us review on your favorite place to watch and/or listen, including iTunes, Stitcher, YouTube, Amazon, Android Play, etc. We might choose yours to feature on our next episode! Bloomingprejippie says:

In this "Musical '"Discoveries'" episode, we will be sharing 10 musical artists who are a little off-the-beaten path, but who have inspired us in some way or another.  Either we have recently "discovered" them by appreciating work that they have already done, or we, literally, have recently discovered that they exist at all. Either way, there is something about their art that we would like to share, so that more folks can appreciate them too.

We are Bruce Theory and Victoria Moon (in conjunction with Prejippie Music Group, Inc.). We created Blooming Prejippie Zine to document our journey to summon our muse. The goal is to consume inspiring artifacts, deliberate and celebrate them, then spew the lovechild created by our previous influences and this newer stimuli; even while navigating “regular” lives. Yes, because even rock stars need inspiration.

Come with us. Be bold and blossom.
