Does Christianity make emotional sense? Francis Spufford & Philip Pullman - Unbelievable? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:20:17

Francis Spufford is a prize-winning author who returned to faith as an adult after years as an atheist. His latest book is "Unapologetic: Why despite everything Christianity can still make surprising emotional sense".  He says he didn't write it to try to give an objective argument for Christianity, but to show why its concepts, doctrines and beliefs help those who believe it make emotional sense of the world. He chats with renowned author Philip Pullman who is an atheist.  They talk about new atheism, the atheist bus campaign, the concept of sin, the person of Jesus and more.  Did Jesus Exist? Richard Carrier vs Mark Goodacre - Unbelievable? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:19:05

Richard Carrier is the world's foremost proponent of the "mythicist" view of Jesus - that he never actually existed as a historical person. He explains his theory that St. Paul only ever spoke of Jesus in the spiritual realm and that the Gospels are "extended parables". Mark Goodacre is NT professor at Duke University. He contends that Carrier's mythicist view is extrememly far fetched and the evidence for the historical Jesus is beyond reasonable doubt.  The Atheist Prayer Experiment Results Show - Unbelievable? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:20:34

In the first of two shows Justin is joined by Tim Mawson, the Oxford philosopher whose paper "Praying to Stop Being an Atheist" inspired the Atheist Prayer Experiment. 71 atheists and agnostics signed up to the experiment, comitting to pray for God to reveal himself to them over 40 days. Did anyone end up believing in God? We reveal the results and hear from a variety of people who took part, including Andrew, Kendra, Laura, Cang & Freki as well as exploring questions that arose.  Was this really an 'experiment'? What does an atheist pray? Does it matter which god is being prayed to? Do the results have any bearing on the question of God's existence?  Egalitarian vs Complementarian views on men and women - Unbelievable? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:22:31

A controversial blog post by Jared Wilson, quoting pastor Doug Wilson on the role of men and women in sex, recently reignited the debate between complementarians and egalitarians. Rachel Held Evans is a popular US author, blogger and speaker who believes the New Testament supports the equality of men and women in the church and in the home (Egalitarian). Owen Strachan is a theology professor at Boyce College, Kentucky and believes the Bible teaches that men and women have equal dignity but different roles in family and church (Complementarian). UK church blogger Adrian Warnock joins the conversation too as we discuss reactions to the Wilson blog post, how to interpret verses in the Bible about women "submitting" to husbands and "remaining quiet" in church, and more.
