He claims that the hypothesis of God is the best explanation for a variety of aspects of human existence and the universe as revealed by science. He has debated Richard Dawkins. Richard Dawkins was invited to defend his book but refused. An empty chair was left for him in case he changed his mind. Bart Ehrman is James A Gray Distingushed Prof of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  He is well known as a Bible scholar who has thrown doubt upon the reliability of Scripture with bestselling books "Misquoting Jesus" & "Forged".
