Let's go to the drive-in! On this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, we look back to the golden days of burger joints, drive-ins, and diners. With a resurgence of these drive-in eateries, the memories of days when these restaurants were hang-outs for the school set, and as a fun treat for the family are recalled. The post-war 1950s were a time of prosperity, and the family could be seen almost weekly at one of these fun restaurants. Although the food was always delicious, a great appeal was the architecture of the buildings. Chrome, neon, and glass blocks all added to the excitement of eating out. The hamburger of course was the staple item to order at one of these places, and such other treats as fries, and thick milkshakes and malts were always a big hit. We remember Leonard Nimoy, best remembered as Mr. Spock on the TV series "Star Trek". Mr. Nimoy passed away in February of 2015.  Always Wear Goggles When Working in Junior High Metal Shop! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:38

On this edition of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, Mike and Smitty recall their days in Junior High and High School, when they took shop classes. For most boys, taking a shop class was a welcome break from the academic part of school. The ability to go to one of the shops, be it wood, metal, electric, graphic arts, or auto shop, and get our hands dirty and create something or repair a radio, print a poster, or tune up an engine gave us a whole new experience in education. Working with our hands, learning to use tools, and learning new skills stayed with us and we relied on a lot of those early experiences the remainder of our lives. We also remember the angst of being afraid of welders, metal cutters, and tools that we were sure we would hurt ourselves with. In spite of this, we learned and benefitted from the Industrial Arts programs that were available in those days. Join us as we recall fun school memories on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network!

Junior High Fund-Raising Drives, and Smitty and Mike Recall "Boy's" Haircuts of the Past | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:45

On this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, Mike and Smitty remember the days in school when kids would sell items as fundraisers for their schools. We remember some of the items that were sold, such as nuts, candies, and flower and vegetable seeds, Some of the items were of dubious quality, but we always looked to family and neighbors to help bail us out of the monumental task of selling all that merchandise. Schools utilized the income from these sales to help fund a variety of things back in the day. Next, we look back to the days when we would visit the barber shop on a regular schedule. Both Mike and Smitty have personal recollections of their early years when both their dads were very strict on having their sons have short haircuts. As we got older, those haircuts were not looked forward to, since the style tended to lean toward longer hair lengths. Somehow we survived, and today those memories linger on. Our Retro-Commercial is for the 1958 Oldsmobile car line. Join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network.
