Allen Anthony formerly of Christión debut his new project | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:30:00

There’s no denying that the facets of music have vastly evolved over recent years. It wasn’t long ago that collaborations between your favorite artists were limited to disaster relief efforts. Since then, a division of East vs. West coast no longer exists and there’s a fine line in the distinction between pop and hip hop. These days, you know you’ve made it if you’ve got a new hit single on itunes, and it doesn’t hurt to have a song featuring Bay Area pioneer Too $hort. For Oakland native Allen Anthony, the journey to this point began when he was ten, the year he started his very first rock band. By the time he turned thirteen Anthony was playing bay area house parties, mastering the art of drumming and joining in on break dance battles. When 1997 rolled around, he was a member of the R&B duo Christión, and produced an album called “Ghetto Cyrano” which was on its way to becoming the first R&B album released by Roc-A-Fella Records. Shortly thereafter, Allen Anthony ventured into solo artist territory and produced his first solo album “Oakland International” from which his single “Alright” hit the Top 15 on the charts. A few years later, Roc-A-Fella faced its dissolution and Anthony’s albums were never officially released.

Hendryx was born on October 9, 1944, in Trenton, New Jersey, and by the time she was 18 she had joined the Del Capris, a "girl group" based in Philadelphia. Soon after, she joined the Ordettes, where she met Patricia Holt, who became known as Patti Labelle, and Cindy Birdsong, who later became a member of The Supremes. With Sara Dash, who had sung with the Del Capris, the new group called themselves the BlueBelles. Their first single was "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman," which they followed in 1963 with a bigger hit, "Down the Aisle." But the BlueBelles failed to sell as many records as their label had initially hoped, and in 1969 they were dropped. Now a trio after the 1967 departure of Birdsong, the group decided in 1970 to hire British television producer Vicki Wickham as their new manager. Renaming the group Labelle, Wickham gave them a new image. Instead of the sentimental songs they had covered in earlier records, they started covering rock hits by such stars as the Rolling Stones, Carole King, and the Who. In 1971 the group put out the album Labelle, followed by 1972's Moon Shadow. While Hendryx contributed only a few songs to this album, she wrote most of the original material for Pressure Cookin'; , which was released in 1973. According to a writer in Contemporary Musicians, the album contained no "standouts." With Nightbirds.
