For the old-time Tune of the Week, 1/23/15. This is Sara Grey's arrangement. She inspired both Mary Z Cox and BHO member Neill Connor to learn it. Neill placed in a recent Love Songs banjo contest with Cherry River Line. Mary will be including it on her upcoming CD. I'm grateful to hear it now on TOTW and enjoy playing it and hearing the words in my head. I'll leave the singing to them!
Clawhammer take on a trad Scottish jig/song. Double D tuning but low.
35 years ago TODAY... (whew!) ...on Jan. 24, 1980, I filled in on banjo for Don Parmley when he had to be away one night from the Bluegrass Cardinals gig at the Holiday Inn. Seems like yesterday, except that my fingers aren't near as agile now as they were then. That's Tim Smith on fiddle, David Parmley on guitar & vocals, Norman Wright on mandolin & vocals, and Ernie Sykes Jr. on bass & vocals.

Tim O'Brien (aka Red Knuckles, of Trailblazers fame) recorded a slow country version of tis old Beatles song with all the minor chords deleted. My wife and I took the RK version and pushed it up to OT/BG speed, than our neo-trad contraband, Banjovi, recorded this back in the nineties.
This recording has 2 tracks, I recorded the banjo backup separately. Some places in the recording sound wrong, but some I think are ok. I didn't have time to get it all right. I wanted to post an example of where I am right now with backup.
