For the old-time Tune of the Week, 1-30-15, this old dance tune is named for an old Virginia family home. The fiddler, John Ashby, played with a group he called the Free State Ramblers. It's quite a bit of interesting history I'll continue to learn about from the current TOTW.
Slightly tighter head, slightly higher bridge. Bridge on first MP3 was so low, I tucked a nickel AND a penny under one foot to raise it. Losing that much extra weight should brighten it up quite a bit. What's YOUR ear tell you??
"WORRIED MAN BLUES" on my 2015 Salad Bowl Banjo with the internal tension system. Tried it Scruggs style, Clawhammer style, and Seeger style. Bridge is temporary, head has not been tensioned very much. But, so far, so good!
Mainline Runner
The final installment in my Clove Lakes Park trilogy, the previous being Brooks Pond (video) and Martlings Pond (mp3). In Double C. © Rick Hayes 2015
Groundspeed RK76
Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue
Banjo #115, Gretsch (?)
Dry and Dusty
Duelling Bossa
I figured I'd learn that infamous second break after I'd been playing the 'B' version for a while. The timing's a little off but it's pretty good, I'd say. This was played on my custom banjo with Huber tone ring and a Frank Neat neck.
Gourd banjo
Rex's Blues played clawhammer style in open G tuning (gDGBD). I use lots of brush skips in this arrangement to try to get the picking rhythm closer to the way I hear it played on guitar.
CH take on an Irish Polka written by Gian Marco Pietrasanta from Genova, Italy. Double D tuning.
