This is Village Church | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:39

On our one year anniversary service we explore the stories, ministries and mission of Village Church.

God Cares about Numbers (Mark 4:21-34) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:34

Follow Me - 11: It has become popular in the church today to say things like "God doesn't care about numbers" or "God does not assess fruitfulness, he assess faithfulness." In this message we explore why Jesus says both of these ideas are wrong and unbiblical on their own. What can we do to bear more fruit in our lives to the glory of God?

Four Responses to Jesus (Mark 4:1-20) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:10

Follow Me - 10: The philosopher GK Chesterton once said "There are a hundred directions a person can fall down, but only one way to stand straight." In this parable Jesus challenges his listeners to examine what kinds of hearers of the Word of God they are by laying out four different kinds of people. Which one are you?

Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit (Mark 3.22-30) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:18

Follow Me - 9: Some people wonder if they have committed blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, what Jesus calls the unforgivable sin. Even if we didn't have this text it would probably come up. People would wonder if there is anything they could do which was so evil that it could put them outside the scope and forgiveness of divine love and forgiveness. In this passage Jesus addresses that question precisely and his answer is that God is enormously willing to forgive sin (v.28), but that people can put themselves outside of the scope of the grace and forgiveness of God (v.29). The question is: how?

Was Jesus Really Out of His Mind (Mark 3.7-21; 31-35) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:05

Follow Me - 8: Many Christians use the offense of the gospel as an idol and an excuse for why people around them are not being inspired to love the God of the universe. They say that is the reason no one calls them, comes to their church, or comes to faith around them - because the gospel is offensive. But in this section of Mark we see that great crowds followed Jesus. The question is why - and what does it have to do with our lives? And why those closest to Jesus said he was "out of his mind".

Moving from Amazement to Faith (Christmas Eve) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:05

Many in our culture and in our churches are in awe of God during Christmas. In awe of the Jesus story. But the Christmas story, through the story of the shepherds, challenges each of us to move from amazement to faith and says there is a world of difference between the two.

 Retooling Christmas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:43

A billboard was posted near a highway recently by American Atheists saying "You know it's a myth, this season celebrate reason" with a picture of three kings carrying gifts on a donkey. In some sense we agree with the American Atheists that myth has crept into Christmas. In this message we explore Matthew 1 & 2 in order to separate fact from fiction and to see what Christmas is really all about.

 Jesus and Religion (Mark 2:23-3:6) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:31

Follow Me - 7: Christianity is known as the faith that demands that sinners repent. That is only half the story. It is also the faith that demands religious people to repent. In this message we explore why Jesus is so angry at religion and discuss the destruction that comes when humans try to relate to God and one another through the filter of religion giving people a false sense of security - looking only on the outside while ignoring the heart.

 Jesus and Sinners (Mark 2:13-22) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:01

Follow Me - 6: The religious people of Jesus' day asked "Why does he hang out with sinners?" His answer was basically because it's sinners (all of us) who need Him, how would anyone get to know him if he isn't there to meet and challenge them? This challenge us in that it raises the question of whether we have the same heart as Jesus for those in our lives who don't know him.

 First Things First (Mark 2:1-12) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:22

Follow Me - 5: Jesus heals sin first and foremost in the paralyzed man. God's primary purpose in our lives is to draw us back to him spiritually which does not necessarily ensure our physical comforts.

The Power of Christ (Mark 1:29-45) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:03

Follow Me - 4: The Gospel of Mark portrays the power of Christ as a devastating force that healed thousands and chased away demons. That same power is available now too. As believers, we have within us, the incredible power of Christ!

 Shut Up! (Mark 1:21-28) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:57

Follow Me - 3: We get the most out of life when Jesus is not only on audio but video as well. But how do we get there? It has to do with allowing God to confront our sin and change us by a personal encounter with Him, and by us becoming people who learn to say "Shut up!" to the sin, temptations and demons of our lives.

 Jesus Begins (Mark 1:9-20) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:47

Follow Me - 2: Jesus begins his ministry by being baptized by John the Baptist, is anointed by the Spirit, driven into the wilderness, and tempted by Satan. In this sermon we explore baptism, the Trinity, being beloved of God, trial and temptation, and experiencing God personally.

 Discipleship Gone Mild (Mark 1:1-8) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:36

Follow Me - 1: Mark starts his gospel off with what's most important in life: Jesus & the gospel. He also introduces us to John the Baptist, the first disciple of Jesus in the story, where we see the kind of wild, eccentric, undomesticated people God saves and uses for His glory. How then has Christianity moved from this tribe of renegades to a religion of conformists who are more interested in safety, than sacrifice? What do you tell your kids when they say they're afraid of monsters?

What difference does Jesus make? (Rev 3:14-22) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:26

Skeptics Forum - 7 | SEVEN - 8: Warning - This message is a scathing critique of both religion and irreligion. What is the purpose of life? All the great thinkers such as Camus, Huxley, Voltaire, Shakespeare, and Jesus himself knew that the regular person was too busy at work and play to be able to really answer the question of purpose and meaning. In this message we explore what the true meaning of life really is from Jesus perspective and find out that a middle-of-the-road approach to God is not an option. In contrast we are called to recognize who we are before God and our need of him and trust him for salvation instead of ourselves. In the most famous letter of the seven Jesus warns the church at Laodicea and the world that a mediocre approach to him will result in him vomiting them out of his mouth. He focuses on people understanding who they are before God - wretched, pitiable, naked, poor and blind which is their only hope of salvation because it's the only way they will ever fully depend on and trust Jesus rather than themselves.
