Kaupunki on kaksikielinen. Noin puolet sen asukkaista puhuu suomea ja puolet ruotsia. Suomea puhuvat ovat hienoisessa enemmistössä, vaikkakin vain noin 5 prosentilla. Hangon kaupunki sijaitsee Hankoniemellä, kauniissa saaristossa, joka houkuttelee matkailijoita kaikkialta maailmasta. The city is bilingual, with about half of its population speaking Finnish and the other half speaking Swedish. The majority is slightly tipped in favor of Finnish, although it's only by about five percent. Hanko sits on the Hanko Peninsula, which has a beautiful archipelago that draws tourists from all over the world. There are about twenty miles of sandy beaches to enjoy and about one-hundred islets to explore. Most of the city's buildings are fairly new because they were rebuilt after Russian bombing destroyed them during World War II. Two features of the city that are most noticeable when looking at the landscape are the water tower and the church. Other points of interest are the Bengtskar Lighthouse and Neljan Tuulen Tupa, a café owned by Field Marshal C.G. Mannerheim. The lighthouse is the tallest one in Scandinavia, and the café is interesting because Mannerheim was an important military leader in Finland. He died in 1951, but the café he owned still is a popular place for tourists to visit. Another very popular tourist draw is the Hangon Regatta, which is the number one summer event in the city. Sailing enthusiasts from all over the world show up to take part in the race, and young people who are more intent on partying than sailing also make an appearance.
