Irreligiosophy
Summary: Irreligiosophy means “the wisdom of irreligion” — it is about questioning dogmas handed down uncritically to us and researching into the history, practice, and theology of various religions. It’s about scrutinizing religious claims with a skeptical eye and placing them in historical perspective. But ultimately, Irreligiosophy 2.0 is really about arming atheists to wage the culture war with arguments and reason. We focus on Christianity because that is the religion that we are most confronted by in our daily lives, but we see all religion and all irrationality as threats to the continued advancement of knowledge, progress, and social justice.

Chuck and Matt go over William Lane Craig's ten arguments for the empty tomb and find them EXTREMELY COMPELLING.
Here Matt and I boldly venture into the realm of poorly reworded Lee Strobel and CS Lewis arguments, and then find out why Mr. Hastings believes all religions other than Christianity are wrong, wrong, wrong. Also we talk about Kirk wielding the ban hammer at his Facebook site, and my review of his Superman fan fiction story (which got me banned).
Now we move into the religious section of Kirk's book and find Mr. Hastings no more prepared to tackle theological ideas than scientific ones. In addition to covering Kirk's weird ideas about the reliability of the Bible, we read some Amazon reviews of "What Is Truth?", dramatically re-enact some of Kirk Hastings' Irreligiosophy comic strips, and engage in some serious literary criticism of one of his fan fiction Superman stories.
Chuck and Matt take on 4 more chapters of "What Is Truth?" Tune in for more exasperated sighs, head-banging-against-walls, and lots more junior high level misunderstandings of science.
Here Chuck and Matt the Hovindologist discuss the first 1/3rd of Kirk Hastings brilliant work, "What Is Truth?" where Kirk should receive a Nobel Prize for demolishing evil-utionary theory.
A brief rundown of why Irreligiosophy has come to an end.
A brief discussion with Dan Barker of "Godless" and "Losing Faith in Faith" fame.
We interview John Loftus, former preacher and current eminent atheist, author of "Why I Became an Atheist" and editor of such works as "The Christian Delusion" and "The End of Christianity." Mostly we talk about the weather.
We discuss the Q hypothesis, which attempts to make sense of those similarities in Matthew and Luke that are not found in Mark by positing a lost gospel that consists primarily of sayings of Jesus, possibly written by his earliest followers in rural Galilee. When removed from Matthew and Luke, Q has some interesting things to say.
Bob Price returns for another go-round with us Irreligiosophers, this time to discuss his unique perspective on Joseph Smith's Book of Mormon as a work of psuedepigraphy similar to the Book of Daniel or the Pastoral Epistles.
In this episode, we take apart the Ten Commandments: what are they, where did they come from, why do we care, and what do they mean? Do they actually form the basis for American jurisprudence? Should they be engraved on monuments everywhere? Do we even have the right ones?
What's that, you say? There are more crazy Book of Mormon stories? Oh yeah. We got 'em.
In this episode we cover some of the basic crazy-ass Book of Mormon stories that are taught to young and old, male and female latter-day saints everywhere. Warning: actual Book of Mormon scriptures are read on this podcast. We do not recommend driving or operating heavy machinery while under the soporific influence of LDS scriptures.
David Silverman, president of the American Atheists organization, overcomes his natural shyness to pimp the upcoming AA convention in Des Moines, Iowa. In between the pimping, we talk about growing up in a Jewy environment, deconverting at an early age, and evangelizing atheism.
Ray Garton graces our show again to spotlight a book signing that unfortunately fell through. But who cares about that when we have Ray Garton on the show!
