Don't forget to stop by JapanesePod101.com for more great Japanese Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- 福沢諭吉 「天は人の上に人を造らず人の下に人を造らず」というあまりにも有名なフレーズを著書『学問のすすめ』の中に記した福沢諭吉は、一万円札の肖像になっています。（2012年現在） 諭吉は1835年、下級武士の家庭に生まれました。漢学・蘭学を学び、江戸（現在の東京）で蘭学を教える塾を開きます。江戸時代、日本は中国やオランダ以外の外国と交流をほとんど絶っていたため、入手できる西洋の書物はオランダ語の物のみ。ところが、当時世界の覇権はイギリスが握っており、オランダ語が役に立たないことに気付いた諭吉は英蘭辞書などを頼りに独学で英語を勉強し始めます。 幕府によってアメリカ、ヨーロッパに派遣され、西洋の文化や社会制度を学び帰国した後、外交文書等の翻訳業務にたずさわることに。その際、日本語にない概念や制度を表す言葉を原語のまま使うのではなく、漢語の知識を生かして新しい訳語を作りだしました。例えば、Economyという英語の単語を「経済」と訳したのは諭吉がはじめであると言われています。 ちなみに、冒頭に紹介したフレーズは諭吉自身が考えたものではなく、アメリカ合衆国の独立宣言の中の文を諭吉が意訳したものです。諭吉は独立宣言の文を引用しつつ「天は人の上に人を造らず人の下に人を造らずと言うが、実際には賢い人も愚かな人も存在し、貧富の差もある。それは学問があるかないかに起因しているのである」と説き、豊かな人生を送りたければ学問をすることを勧めたのです。 諭吉が江戸で開いた蘭学の塾は後に慶応義塾大学となり、現在でも経済界を中心に優秀な人材を輩出しています。 ----Formal Vowelled---- ふくざわ ゆきち 「てんは ひとの うえに ひとを つくらず ひとの したに ひとを つくらず」と いう あまりに も ゆうめいな フレーズを ちょしょ 『がくもんの すすめ』の なかに しるした ふくざわ ゆきちは、 いちまんえんさつの しょうぞうに なって います。 （2012ねん げんざい） ゆきちは 1835ねん、かきゅう ぶしの かていに うまれました。 かんがく ・ らんがくを まなび、 えど （げんざいの とうきょう）で らんがくを おしえる じゅくを ひらきます。 えどじだい、 にっぽんは ちゅうごくや オランダ いがいの がいこくと こうりゅうを ほとんど たって いた ため、 にゅうしゅ できる せいようの しょもつは オランダごの もの のみ。 ところが、 とうじ せかいの はけんは イギリスが にぎって おり、 オランダごが やくに たたたない ことに きづいた ゆきちは えいらん じしょ などを たよりに どくがくで えいごを べんきょう しはじめます。 ばくふに よって アメリカ、 ヨーロッパに はけん され、 せいようの ぶんかや しゃかい せいどを まなび きこく した のち、 がいこう ぶんしょ などの ほんやく ぎょうむに たずさわる こと に。 その さい、 にほんごに ない がいねんや せいどを あらわす ことばを げんごの まま つかう の では なく、 かんごの ちしきを いかして あたらしい やくごを つくりだしました。 たとえば、 Economyと いう えいごの たんごを 「けいざい」と やくした の は ゆきちが はじめで ある と いわれて います。 ちなみに、 ぼうとうに しょうかい した フレーズは ゆきち じしんが かんがえた もの で　は なく、 アメリカ がっしゅうこくの どくりつ せんげんの なかの ぶんを ゆきちが いやく した もの です。 ゆきちは どくりつ せんげんの ぶんを いんよう し つつ 「てんは ひとの うえに ひとを つくらず ひとの したに ひとを つくらず と いう が、 じっさいに は かしこい ひとも おろかな ひとも そんざい し、 ひんぷの さも ある。 それは がくもんが あるか ないかに きいん して いるの で ある」と とき、 ゆたかな じんせいを おくりたければ がくもんを する ことを すすめた の です。 ゆきちが えどで ひらいた らんがくの じゅくは のちに けいおうぎじゅくだいがくと なり、 げんざいで も けいざいかいを ちゅうしんに ゆうしゅうな じんざいを はいしゅつ して います。 ----Formal Romanization---- Fukuzawa, Yukichi "Ten wa hito no ue ni hito o tsukurazu hito no shita ni hito o tsukurazu" to iu amari ni mo yūmei na furēzu o chosho "Gakumon no susume" no naka ni shirushita Fukuzawa Yukichi wa, ichi-man-en satsu no shōzō ni natte imasu.
