Episode 348: Doing Hard Work | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This episode was actually more difficult to post than most. That's not because of technical issues but rather because I think this one sets a record for how off-base the show premise was from the articles. The conversation was even more off-base from the articles. We had a lot of fun with the conversation and there's a lot of information... just not the information I expected as the show notes were being compiled.  Episode 347: Jumping the Shark | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We managed to talk about jumping the shark without doing so ourselves (unless you count the madlibs, I don't). It was fun but if you're Obama-sensitive you might want to turn away. There are a lot of interesting nuggets, including mentioning of an NPR story about the EU's regulation on vacuum cleaners and Happy Days. For those of you who missed the MadLib during the recording, here are the results: A recent scary poll shows that the majority of people are terrified of public governing.  They would rather walk across burning jacobites or swim in goat-infested waters than give a speech in front of nuns.  This hearty fear can be overcome in five easy voters: 1. Organize all of your gym teachers on a piece of plank. 2. Remember to start your speech with a funny Senator. 3. When speaking, look your audience straight in the feet and speak in a strong and stupid voice. 4. Be simple.  Never use damaged words that are over the audiences eyes. 5. Always keep a pitcher of mercury next to you, in case your shin goes dry. Click Here to download the podcast, or listen using the Blubrry player (the blue ball on the right of the page).  Episode 346: Teachable Moments | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We're a little late on posting the episode this week. No mad libs but a lot of fun talking about the teachable moments that appeared in articles from the past month or so. I'll be posting the words for next week's Mad Lib on Wednesday or Thursday. You can be a part of the show by adding your words! The more we get the more interesting the results can be!  Episode 345: Let's Just Talk | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This episode went better than planned. It didn't exactly follow the article list but we did talk about them. Two new things were introduced as well, the Mad Lib opening as well as the Constitutional Quiz Cards. Both worked well as a part of the show. I'll be posting the words for next week's Mad Lib on Wednesday or Thursday. You can be a part of the show by adding your words! The more we get the more interesting the results can be!  Episode 344: Your Policy is Showing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I'm not sure if we made our point tonight or not. We definitely highlighted some policies that are showing and even brought up the concept of action in Iraq as a way to distract the media from domestic news. That said, there were a few odd tangent circles that might make folks look at certain concepts from a different angle. Two shout-outs from this episode. First, to Joesf a mote in the eye award for playing devil's advocate so perfectly on the college age free speech concept. Also, a mention of Rat Nation which is a fun blog I've started reading. They are where I saw the article about the Tiny House movement mentioned in this episode.  Episode 327: They're Not Even Trying | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This episode was a bit more sedate but no less informative and interesting.  We talked about some good examples of cronyism and chaos in the system being created only to serve the interests of those in power.  Episode 326: Talking About Justice | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Justice, it seems, comes in many different shapes and sizes. We started off the conversation with a good discussion about areas where the, "right thing" was done… and then there was the conversation about welfare in Louisiana. There was a good counter-point brought up by Toawa with regards to the concept of controlling where people spend their money regardless of source. Where do you see justice being served correctly? What about abuses of the system or trying to use the system to create abuse? Let us know! We'd love to see some comments on the articles we posted.  Episode 325: What Are We Learning? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I had to clarify with this episode that it's not, "what have we learned." Rather, it's about what we are learning based on the articles we discussed. We had an engaging and fun conversation. Administrative note from Hatton: Episode posts to the main site may be delayed until after the end of April.  I'm working on finishing up my MBA and with the exception of time for show prep and recording/editing I have very little extra time or energy during the week.  I will try to get shows up to the site as quickly as possible.  If you want faster access to episodes you can subscribe to the show on iTunes or the main Talkshoe RSS feed.  The only disadvantage of subscribing there is any extra content I might post (highly unlikely for the next few months) would be missing.  I sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience.  Episode 324: Shameful Actions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This was a fun episode! It was interesting to see the take that different audience members had on the t-shirt story as well as the whistleblower concept. Also, there's a shocker in this one where I actually agree with Senator Gillibrand! Personal issues on my side kept me from posting until today. As I wrap up my MBA I may be behind on posting but the recordings are definitely being made.  Episode 323: Gearing Up Again | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This was an interesting episode, and by that I mean that it followed the initial plan of episodes. What made it interesting was the disagreements and in some cases heated exchanges that came out in response to some of the articles. Never let it be said that everyone on the call always agrees... but then again if we were all robots there wouldn't be anything to talk about!  Episode 322: Clowning Around | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I'm a bit late in posting this episode, I'll blame it on the polar vortex. We had a lot of fun with this episode discussing different articles that all come from the "you can't make this up" stack.  Episode 321: Selective Prosecution and Enforcement | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This episode almost got me in trouble! Not from anything I said but because it got a bit lound and I had to raise my voice. We had a lot of interaction with callers and folks participating in TalkShoe and SecondLife! We actually stayed on topic more often than not and there are some good learning moments amongst the laughter.  Episode 320: Using the System | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Another fun episode and I tried to keep it on subject this week! Lots of interesting bits of information was discussed and ideas shared. One clarification that I want to make is that the topic, "using the system" does not mean cheating it. The articles we got to were examples of legitimate use of various policies and programs put in place.  Episode 319: Godless | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

There are episodes that go exactly according to plan and there are ones that go more along the way this one did. I didn't even try to keep things on topic because the conversation was still really good. Unfortunately we barely scratched the articles or the premise. That may be a good thing or a bad thing, I'll leave it for the audience to decide. No matter what we did have a good conversation and a lot of participation. We even had to stay on our good behavior after my mom called in! If you want to help keep the podcast at the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right.  Episode 318: Fundamental Concepts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Even with the hardware failures and short notice on the article list, this episode went quite well!  We talked about a number of things including the Tea Party, the concept of social decay and even had an, "eye of the beholder" moment with one of the articles.  Definitely worth the listen!
