Are You Too Old To Reinvent | LAYC54 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 09:30

When is old too old? When are you too old to reinvent? What age is the right age to stop being curious, passionate, evolving? What age do you look like? Act like? Want to be? In conversation with a dear friend who I hadn’t seen face to face for 10 years, she exclaimed: “Isabel, you haven’t changed a bit. I think you look younger since I saw you last! You don’t look your age at all!” I expressed the same sentiments to her, sincerely awed at how vibrant and youthful she seemed, knowing her 77th birthday was only months away. We hugged and laughed, thrilled to be in person again, grateful that our friendship was still strong, even after a decade hiatus. Over wine we mused, “What does any age look like now?” We agreed, we don’t resemble our mothers or grandmothers. And we don’t even resemble the “us” we’d been programmed to expect by societal norms of decades ago. She’s reinventing. I am reinventing. Most baby boomers are reinventing and redefining. Join us!

Eclipse and Woman in the Moon | LAYC53 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:22

Perhaps it’s because I’m older – in what some call the second half or the final third of my life, I was inspired to get out of bed at 3:30 am, bundle up against a chilly, damp November pre-morning and hurry outside to find a viewing spot for the total lunar eclipse – dubbed the blood beaver moon. This spectacular celestial event will not occur again until November 2025. I am going to put that one on my calendar too! I felt like a child, chilled by early winter and thrilled by anticipation; there I stood waiting for Santa Claus to arrive at a night version of a holiday parade. Alone with my thoughts on the quiet streets, there I was watching transformations take place. And I felt connected to the even, like a woman in the moon, throughout my life, waning, waxing, shadowed, brilliant, and sometimes feeling unseen. Taking time to reflect under the stars and moon, and watch the sunrise is healing and uplifting for me. Walking, meditating, and renewing my gratitude for being part of this Universe is a privilege. How often do you look up and recharge yourself?
