Father: J.C. Harris, Mother: Dortheria Harris. He is the youngest of three siblings having one sister, Tiffaney and brother, Jeremiah. When he was about 5 his dad was sentenced to 75 years in prison leaving his mom to take care of him and his brother. His mother being a single mother, struggled paying the mortgage at her home in Plano, TX and they ultimately became homeless, moving from place to place .In 1998 he moved to Dallas with his mother and brother where he completed high school at A. Maceo Smith in 2008. Growing up in the Highland Hills community was not easy. Experiencing a life of gangs, poverty, and violence, Josiah always strived to be different. He found a strong liking in music which bloomed and grew over time, since he was a little child. He started his first music lessons playing the trombone in the 4th grade. He began to develop a great sound on his instrument winning awards and placing in city wide competitions. Josiah also enjoyed sports, especially p basketball and enjoyed playing the sport for recreation. Some of his likes include playing pool, swimming, watching movies, dining and meeting people. When he got to high school he joined the choir for the first time under the direction of the great Raymond Greer. His first year in the choir was tough but discipline in the art and interpersonal discipline was developed. His voice began to mature year after year. As graduation time came he had lots of scholarships to different HBCU’s but he chose to go to Langston University where he was in the marching band and the choir. Ultimately, Paul Quinn College is where he graduated from college and earned his Bachelor’s Degree. Josiah felt that he wanted to finally take out time to focus on his music career. Through all the ups and downs in life Josiah always knew that God had a calling on his life. So, he submitted his will and talent to God and began a music career in Gospel music. His unique sound is unparalleled, and he brings a fresh new perspective to the Christian musical world and too this day God has used him to touch the lives of many people all over the world. Josiah has traveled to countries such as Haiti using his ministry not just song but outreach to help rebuild communities and teach about the love of God. His love for the youth has sparked his “Saving Souls Like This Movement”. Which he uses to spread the truth to not just the youth of this generation but to all ages. Roy recently released his first gospel EP entitled “Coming Back” which introduces him, his story, and his love for Jesus. As a new artist Roy has already had opportunities to open for artists ranging from Fred Hammond to Jonathan McReynolds and he recently sang the Academy Award winning song "Glory" with rapper Common at the 2017 Wichita River Festival. In June of 2017, Roy Attended the Gospel Music Association's IMMMERSE Conference and participated in the ReviewYou competition. Throughout the competition he sang his own rendition of the CeCe Winans Classic "Mercy Said No" and ultimately won the National Best Male Vocalist Award. Roy has also been invited to sing National Anthems for the Kansas City Royals, KC Chiefs, and the Oklahoma City Thunder sports teams. Starting in early 2016, Roy began leading the men’s praise team at Saint Mark United Methodist Church. He is also currently serving as Chaplain of the young adult ministry. Apart from his music, Roy works as a Structural Design Aerospace Engineer and is currently working on the Boeing 767 Tanker sustaining team at Spirit Aerosystems Inc. He is also heavily involved in Real Men Real Heroes, a local organization that provides mentors and educational programs for underrepresented youth in the city of Wichita. Roy is proud of his Black, Puerto Rican, and Mexican heritage and frequently incorporates rhythms and languages within his music that stem from his cultural background. Ultimately, Roy wants to spread Faith, Positivity, and Love around the world through the gifts that God has given him. 5ive and Bookie the Baby Interview at KE 2018 SXSW in Austin, TX!Exclusive interview with your hosts Dre Coop!!! and Shemaiah Reedhttps://www.instagram.com/yungovaseer/https://www.instagram.com/shemaiahreed/5ive Bio“Son of man, can these bones live?” That was the question Ezekiel was asked by the Lord, in Ezekiel 37, and is still asking to anyone who will listen . . . it could just as well serve as 5ive’s testimony. How else could you explain a drug addict becoming a Christian rapper? How else could you explain a young black man from tiny Earth, Texas reaching the Billboard charts with three releases to his credit? How else could a man, who just started rapping four years ago, now signed to a distribution deal with Save the City Records by way of Provident Label Group a division of Sony Music Entertainment be touring nationwide? “I will make breath enter you and you will come to life . . . then you will know that I am the Lord.” And that’s exactly what has happened in 5ive’s, whose real name is Craig James, life! Craig’s early life, as a teen, was littered with drug use. It started innocently enough smoking weed, but it wouldn’t stay that innocent. The use of marijuana led to cocaine and cocaine led to crack in his twenties, which was a far cry from getting saved at 13.The Devil had Craig right where he wanted him in the chains of addiction. Shuffling in and out of jail on drug charges and in a constant state of frustration, was where he found himself. While serving a 180-day sentence, the proud Texas resident promised the Lord he would never smoke weed again. He kept that promise. Instead he delved into drugs much deeper. James replaced marijuana with his previous cocaine addiction, which eventually led to a drug far deadlier and life-stealing meth. Another arrest led to a night where God started dealing with him once again, essentially asking him the same question, “Can these dry bones live?” He knew God was pursuing Him, but he ran for another month high on crystal meth. But God was persistent and reached him through one of the unlikeliest places possible a Praise-a-Thon led Jamal Bryant. Bryant’s word pierced James’s heart and he knew how badly he needed and wanted Jesus! On Nov. 7, Craig walked into church high on meth, crack, alcohol and cocaine and walked out a brand new man. He surrendered and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior! God had breathed life into his dry bones! As is so often the case, throughout the Bible, God also bestowed on him a new name 5ive—this coming after God told 5ive, “To go and show the world my grace!” The rapper’s name, which is symbolic of the Biblical number for grace and favor, stands for Grace is Victory Everlasting. Five has toured the United States, performing over a hundred shows a year, telling anyone who will listen from youth groups at small churches to big crowds at Christian music festivals, like Rock The Desert in Midland, TX, Kingdom Bound in Buffalo, NY, and Jesus Fest in Clarksburg, WV, how God raised him out of a hopeless situation, the chains of addiction and replaced it Hope, Life, Love and a compassion to reach others in seemingly hopeless situations with the Hope that is Jesus!
