"We've made a decision at quarterback." | LSU's Brian Kelly updated starters vs. Florida State | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1786

Brian Kelly met with the media Monday to preview LSU's season opener against Florida State. The most pressing and obvious question is and will continue to be: who will be the starting quarterback for LSU this season? Kelly announced that while he and his coaching staff have made a decision, they will not make that decision public knowledge for as long as possible. Brian Kelly says while Florida State has an advantage having already played a game against Duquesne in Week 0, LSU also has an advantage of their own since they haven't played. The coaching staff does not want to give any information away if they don't have to. Plus, Kelly provided some updates about players whose availability has been in question: WR Malik Nabers and RB John Emery Jr. Nabers was sidelined during Saturday's practice so Kelly provided clarity to his situation plus Emery Jr.'s appeals process with the NCAA. Which of those two offensive playmakers will be available vs. Florida State on Sunday? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Are we minutes away from an LSU QB decision?! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1833

Brian Kelly told the media last week that he expects a QB decision to be made either Monday or Tuesday. What happened in practice over the weekend to give us any sort of hint who will be the starter? How does Brian Kelly, Mike Denbrock, and the rest of this LSU coaching staff intend to use the QBs throughout the season?  Plus, other offensive takeaways from LSU football's practice on Saturday. Is Malik Nabers dealing with an injury? Can this WR room afford to have both Jack Bech and Nabers dealing with injuries going into the season? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Adding MUCH needed O-Line depth? | LSU football's 2023 tackle target | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1673

Even though we're counting down the days until the beginning of the college football season, LSU still has recruiting to do. Sports Illustrated senior recruiting insider John Garcia Jr. joins Locked On LSU to break down two LSU recruiting prospects. First, LSU needs offensive line depth and OT Zalance Heard may be able to bring just that. The four-star lineman out of Neville High in Monroe, LA has had a rollercoaster of a recruitment with offers from Nebraska, Florida, and Florida State but LSU is the overwhelming favorite. How can his former high school teammate and current LSU OT Will Campbell swing his recruitment? Plus, LSU (as well as pretty much every other college football program in the country) is high on Washington DC prospect Nyckoles Harbor. He could be the speediest guy in his class with the versatility to play on either side of the ball. Does LSU have the allure in both its football and track programs to sell Harbor on the Tigers? Where can he contribute to LSU? Next, John breaks down how the 2022 class can contribute to Florida State. What can LSU fans expect from their true freshman class next week in LSU's opener? Is this the recruiting class to get Mike Norvell off the hot seat, or can LSU take care of business Week 1 in Caesar's Superdome? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Has Brian Kelly finalized LSU football's offensive line? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2003

We're less than two weeks away from LSU vs. Florida State kicking off in the Caesar's Superdome (!!!). So what more have we learned about LSU's team and how it will look on September 4 in New Orleans? Focusing in on the offense today... As it stands, LSU RB John Emery will be out for the first two games of the season against Florida State and Southern due to academic ineligibility. He is appealing the ruling by the NCAA, but until then this LSU offensive unit needs to prepare like he won't be out there. How will the "running back by committee" approach work without Emery? Is there enough RB depth to get the team through the first two weeks until his return? Another position group that is still up in the air is the offensive line. The first team unit has been the same until Saturday when we saw some switch-up at right tackle, right guard, and left guard. When will that group be finalized and are we concerned about Garrett Dellinger's repeated poor snaps in practice? Finally, the QB competition will be a glaring topic of conversation until the starter is named. And even then, we're going to talk about it. Brian Kelly had some interesting words about the current state of the QB competition...will we see a couple different faces under center this season? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Will LSU have the best WR room in college football next season? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1996

Only a few months ago we were continuing the same conversation that's been going on since the day he was hired: can Brian Kelly recruit in the state of Louisiana? The past two weeks have proven that he can. Sports Illustrated recruiting insider John Garcia Jr. joins Locked On LSU to break down the commitments and talents of in-state LSU commits WR Sheldon Sampson, QB Rickie Collins, S Kylin Jackson, and athlete Khai Prean. How did Sampson's commitment affect the rest of this class? Can Rickie Collins compete for the starting QB job right away? How can Khai Prean's versatility be utilized in the offense next season?  Did Brian Kelly tell Jayden Daniels that he will be the starting QB? | LSU quarterback breakdown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2041

The rumor mill has been working overtime in Baton Rouge. LSU quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier both denied the rumor that Jayden Daniels was notified over the weekend that he earned the starting job; so the two-headed monster of this quarterback battle continues. How are Brian Kelly and the rest of the offensive coaching staff setting this QB room up for success? By embracing each of their individual abilities instead of masking them. Daniels and Nussmeier both commented on how their coaches are showing them how to turn what some may think is their biggest weakness into their biggest strength.  Myles Brennan retires from college football. What's next for the LSU QB competition? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1952

Myles Brennan has had a long and difficult journey throughout his career at LSU. He was recruited by Les Miles and Cam Cameron, then came into his first year with Ed Orgeron and Matt Canada. Canada didn't do much for the LSU offense, so Orgeron brought in Steve Ensminger to lead the offense. When Ensminger decides to retire, Orgeron brought in a guy with college football and NFL experience in Jake Peetz to be OC. In 2022, LSU almost completely cleans house and Brennan was faced with his third head coach and fifth offensive coordinator in his sixth season at LSU. Not to mention, Brennan faced plenty of on-the-field adversity as well. He redshirted his freshman year and sat behind Joe Burrow in 2018 and 2019 and watched Burrow bring the program to new heights. When he finally got the starting gig in 2020, Brennan started three games before leaving the rest of the season with an abdominal injury. The next year, he'd be sidelined with a broken arm before he even got to take a snap in fall camp. Myles Brennan has dealt with some tough stuff. He could've left if he wanted to. He even could've quit a lot earlier if he wanted to. But after six years with the Tigers and a starting job seeming further and further away by the day, Brennan decided to amicably walk away from the team that his ridden with throughout his entire college career. With a fond "goodbye" and "wish you the best" to Myles Brennan, what's next for LSU at the QB position? The QB battle continues to unfold even without Brennan in the locker room, so Caroline Fenton breaks down the battle between Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier and how the coaching staff may approach the competition in fall camp and beyond.  Is Myles Brennan falling behind in LSU football's QB competition? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2007

LSU football held their first scrimmage on Thursday and while Brian Kelly said not to make too much of which player took reps with which team, it seems as if the most veteran QB in the quarterback room might be getting left behind in the battle for the starting position. Dillon Sanders, who covers LSU and the Saints for USA Today, joins Caroline Fenton on Locked On LSU to break down his thoughts from practice. Who is currently in the lead for the QB competition? How is the DB room, one comprised of transfers from across college football, coming along? Can the offensive line protect whoever will be under center? Caroline and Dillon discuss the positional battles, sleepers to make an impact for the Tigers this season, and how practice looks under Brian Kelly's new coaching staff.  Shelton stayed and Rickie reconsidered | Are we officially not worried about Brian Kelly's in-state recruiting ability? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1924

In the last four days, LSU landed commitments from two of the top players in the state of Louisiana: 5-star WR Shelton Sampson out of Catholic High and 4-star QB Rickie Collins from Woodlawn High School. But what exactly is so important about those two commitments? Shelton Sampson is ranked the third-best player in the state of Louisiana and had offers from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State (where his former Catholic High head coach Gabe Fertitta is now an analyst), but when asked why he picked LSU he simply said, "why wouldn't I want to play for LSU?" Rickie Collins committed to play for Purdue in October of last year. Less than two weeks ago he committed from the Boilermakers and Wednesday night made his decision to stay home and play for the Tigers. There were concerns about Brian Kelly's ability to recruit players in the state of Louisiana since he had very few ties in the state much less the southeast as a whole. But with two of the top players in LSU's backyard making their decision to stay home, can we admit that our concerns just might be gone? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  FOOTBALL. IS. BACK. | Biggest takeaways from LSU football's first day of fall camp | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1859

LSU football had its first practice on Thursday which means football is so close we can taste it! Brian Kelly started out fall camp addressing one thing: a starting quarterback will not be named today. But how is the competition heating up? Kelly mentioned all four of the guys in the QB room came ready to compete. Why is the QB competition so valuable for LSU football? Kelly also addressed two other position groups with several players competing for a starting role: the corners and the offensive line. While it's early in camp, who is emerging as an early front-runner in those roles? Which position groups shockingly don't have a preseason battle? Finally, Kelly mentioned running back Tre Bradford is no longer enrolled at LSU and is no longer on the roster. What may have happened and how does that affect LSU's RB room?  Who will be the starting QB for LSU football in 2022? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1848

LSU football reports for fall camp today and the first day of practice starts on Thursday. What position battles will we see play out in the next month? First and foremost, the obvious: the quarterback competition. Will Brian Kelly and Mike Denbrock go with the LSU veteran who looked calm, cool, and collected in the spring game in Myles Brennan? Or the young-gun slinger, Garrett Nussmeier? Or is it the Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels that can make plays with his legs better than just about any other QB in the Pac-12 last year? Second, how will Kelly and Denbrock approach the RB position? LSU veteran John Emery Jr. returns to the field this season after academic ineligibility left him on the sidelines in 2021. But will Penn State transfer Noah Cain give him some competition for the starting job? Or, is it going to be more of a committee approach to the run game, utilizing not just the talent of those two but Armoni Goodwin, Tre Bradford, and Josh Williams as well? Lastly, five-star Baton Rouge WR Shelton Sampson Jr. will announce his commitment on Saturday at Catholic High School. How important is it to this 2023 class to add another hometown guy in addition to his skill and depth at the WR position? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  How does Brian Kelly plan to build a "high performance organization" with LSU football? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1911

Two of the biggest questions surrounding Brian Kelly and his new role leading the LSU Tigers were: 1. How can he adjust to the culture shock of coaching in Louisiana and the SEC? 2. How is he going to build a championship program after two down years of LSU football? He answered both of those things last week. First, Brian Kelly has almost made a habit of shutting down the "cultural fit" questions in his summer media availabilities. Does it matter where a coach is from if he is winning games? (Hint: of course not). Plus, Brian Kelly shared his three pillars to building a successful and high-performing organization. What is the theme of his cultural beliefs? Finally, LSU baseball gained a guy but lost one too. Caroline Fenton breaks down who Jay Johnson & Co. lost to the MLB Draft but who they're getting in might just be even better.  How can LSU football be a top team in the SEC West in 2022? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1838

At SEC Media Days last week, the media voted on the projected order of finish in both the SEC East and SEC West. LSU, per the media, is slated to finish fifth in the West. But why? On today's edition of Locked On LSU, Caroline Fenton breaks down the reasons why the media may not be very high on LSU this season (see: new head coach, 6-7 finish last year), and also the factors that could differentiate LSU football's floor from it's ceiling. How big of a role can Kayshon Boutte make, and how does that depend on the role of the QB? Can BJ Ojulari, Maason Smith, Ali Gaye, and the rest of the defensive line carry the defense? Plus, LSU landed another commitment in the 2024 class: four-star TE Tayvion Galloway, the number one player in that class out of the state of Ohio. With Brian Kelly's history of developing tight ends, can LSU fans get used to the TE position playing a larger role in Kelly and Mike Denbrock's offense the future?  Only three Louisiana commits in LSU football's 2023 class – should fans worry about in-state recruiting? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2138

LSU football had an explosive month of July in recruiting, moving from a mid-40s ranking to a top ten recruiting class in the country for 2023. But only three of LSU's current commits are from the state of Louisiana. Should LSU fans be concerned about how Brian Kelly and his staff can recruit in state? Sports Illustrated's Director of Football Recruiting, John Garcia Jr., joins Locked On LSU to break down why Kelly & company haven't landed several in-state Louisiana talent for this upcoming year and why fans shouldn't hit the panic button. What else does this 2023 class need? How can we predict Brian Kelly and Mike Denbrock will want to run this LSU offense based on the offensive talent they are recruiting? Plus, Brian Kelly doesn't have a history of recruiting in Louisiana, or for that matter, the southeast as a whole. Why that isn't necessarily a bad thing and how LSU can use that to its advantage in the recruiting race in the SEC. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Why is the game against Florida State so important for LSU football? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1924

The Brian Kelly era officially begins in just 51 days against Florida State in the Dome in New Orleans. While "coach speak" will tell you that every game matters, this game has just a little bit more weight to it. Kelly has plenty of doubters, both LSU fans and non, and starting his first season with the Tigers with a win against the Seminoles would be a huge statement. Plus, LSU's schedule later in the season is murderers row. While this team isn't new to a difficult schedule, starting the season off with a win would give them the necessary momentum to get enough tallies in the win column. Plus, SEC Media Days starts next week. Coach Kelly and WR Jack Bech, edge rusher BJ Ojular, and LB Mike Jones Jr. will take the podium in Atlanta to preview their season.
