The MD Odyssey Podcast

It is formal season for the medical students and they talk about what they are looking forwards to for the weekend. Also, Chris harasses Luke for using Anki for the lecture material. (I still use firecracker every day though) They also talk about "academic gunning" and what they think it means.

Following a week with 2 and a half snow days the team tries to get back into the rhythm of school. They talk about how they adapted last week to the odd schedule and they also discuss weird hobbies.

After their exam got interrupted like the “troll in the dungeon” scene from Harry Potter, the team gets together to talk about snow days and exam taking. They revisit the vas deferens  and Eric rejoins the podcast after a long hiatus.

Second time’s the charm, at least that is what we are telling ourselves. After a minor recording hiccup the team breaks down what they covered this week and how they are doing in organ systems. They also answer the question: What would you do if you couldn’t do medicine?

The team gets together to discuss the first week back from break and how they are handling the repro course. They break down how their study methods from foundations are translating to organ systems and they also talk about test banks.

The gang is back after a long and much needed break. In this episode, we discuss what we did during our winter vacation and what it feels like to rush back into medical school after a month without it. We also discuss a few New Years "themes" for the year and look forward to the semester to come.

On this special episode, Chris is back at home with his family for the holidays. Here, they discusses what it is like to have a family member go through medical school and the changes they have been observing from the outside.

It is the first week of our holiday break and some of the med students were able to get together and discuss how they are adjusting to the lack of responsibility. In this episode, they talk about ways to keep focuses when away from school and also the values of physician shadowing while in med school student compared to being a pre-med student.

It’s all over, but this time we had the high ground. The semester is done and the students will be able to enjoy a month long break from learning new things! In this episode they reflect on their semester and talk about what they are looking forward to doing with actual free time.

It’s finally time for the final. This episode is brought to you by 5 nervous medical students and a whole lotta tired. This is the most amount of exams the students have faced since starting medical school and they talk about how they are tackling the material and how little they have interacted with society this week.

Happy American Thanksgiving everyone! In this short, but not so short, episode the crew talks about their short break and what they did during the holiday. They also talk about learning renal in 3 days and what they think about the structure of Foundations B.

There are just over 2 weeks left until the end of their first block of medical school, Foundational Sciences, and the team talks about how they are preparing for the 4 upcoming exams. Chris tries outsmart WebMD for the first time to diagnose his gout, or something like that, and Quinn makes a pie.

Some second year medical students at CMU College of Medicine join the podcast to talk about what they did during their M1-M2 summer. They share tips and tricks to make the summer productive, yet relaxing, and how to prepare for the neuro block starting at the beginning of second year.

The exam is over but, as of the recording, the exam results had not been posted. The team talks about their study methods and rejoices in the return of firecracker. This was a short update from the team and there was a startling lack of a new podcast segment from Chris. (Just wait until next week)

In this special episode Chris and Luke have the opportunity to hear the story of a patient who has been HIV positive since 1991 and his ID doctor who has been treating HIV for about as long. They talk what it was like being diagnosed during the period of time when not much was known about the virus and how both a patient and a physician dealt with that uncertainty.
