Dear Johnny – I am reaching out to you for my sister, Christina, who has had a recent tragedy. She has worked for the KC fire department for the last 25 years. This past weekend her house caught fire and is a total loss. At this time, she and her family are living with her daughter and son-in-law, along with her son, husband and grandkids. She is at total loss as to what to do even though she does this for a living. It’s been such a shock to the family and it’s never hit this hard at home. Even though insurance will take care of most things, it’s a process that takes time and they have needs that are immediate. She is such an incredible sister and she just needs help right now. She has helped so many people in her career and she is the oldest of 7 kids and she takes care of us all. She and her husband are continuing to work in the middle of all of this and they have a 13 year old son. She is lost and overwhelmed with everything going on and very prideful about having to take help from others. It’s hard to see her go through this, but I know they need clothes, shoes, coats, hygiene products, groceries. All of the basics you would need when starting over. It’s just such a tough time right here at the holidays and just want her and her family to be okay. Dear Johnny – I’m writing to you because our family has had a rough year and we need help. This year in late July I was diagnosed with covid. By the weekend, I was hospitalized after my oxygen kept dropping into the low 80’s. After a week into my hospital stay I had developed covid pneumonia and my oxygen was dropping into the 70’s. Doctor’s made the decision to put me on a ventilator. I was on the ventilator for over 2 weeks and every day the doctor wasn’t sure whether I was going to make it or not. The doctor finally made a decision that it was time to get off the ventilator and do a tracheotomy and start a feeding tube. That started to work and I was finally improving. After 67 days in the hospital I now had a long road. I had to learn how to walk, talk, eat, and breathe again. I was also losing about 90% of my hair. I’m still on the road to recovery. I’m still on oxygen. But, I’m hoping to go back to work after the first of the year. I know it has put a strain on my family and we are falling behind on bills. Using the oxygen machine at our home has made our energy bill go up to over $600. I just want to get back to normal and my family to have a good holiday after these past several scary months. Dear Johnny – I’m writing to you for my son and family. Back in March of this year, my son Jacob (20) was complaining of his shoulder bothering him. He thought he hurt it while playing basketball with his friends, but the pain only go worse. We decided to take him to the North Kansas City emergency room only to get the news that no parents ever want to hear. He was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma. He couldn’t be treated there, so we moved on to Truman Medical Center and to KU. There we did get the answers and help we needed and we finally got him into Children’s Mercy. His condition wasn’t good and he needed to start chemo and radiation immediately. After several weeks of being in and out of the hospital and doing more scans, we got the unfortunate news that the cancer had spread even more. They are only giving our son a few months to live. They have been wanting to start a new chemo, but can’t keep his blood counts up enough to start it. We were informed that if they can’t start this new chemo, then we won’t have much time with him. We are keeping him as comfortable as we can and we are praying for a miracle and hoping to make it through the holidays. With all of this going on, I haven’t been able to work and have been barely getting by. This is going to be a rough Christmas and we are all pretty devastated. We asked the kids what they want for Christmas and they’ve all said just make our brother better. I’ve fallen behind on some bills and we are just trying to take our minds off of everything going on. Really we’re just trying to enjoy our time with Jacob. If you could help us, we would greatly appreciate it. Dear Johnny, I’ve always prided myself on being able to make it. I’m a single dad who gets 50/50 custody of my daughter. It’s a great schedule and works for both her mom and I. About two months ago, at the end of September, I lost my mother to Covid. With no burial insurance, I struggled to do what I could leaning on family to help. We got through it and laid her to rest on October 6th providing a funeral and cremation. Twelve days later, on October 18th, I had three strokes in one morning. I was taken to the hospital and had lost use of my left leg and left arm, which in turn led to a four day stay at the hospital. I don’t lead an extraordinary life, but I always manage to get by week to week. It’s put me behind and here it is late November and I’m just trying to scrape by on bare minimums. I’ve only seen my daughter a couple of times and it’s hard for her to stay over until I get better. My heater went out and has since been fixed, but it did cause a spike in my electric bill from the space heaters. I just can’t seem to see an end in sight right now. I just want to get better and be able to be there for my little girl, and have a little Christmas for her. She understands daddy is sick right now, but doesn’t know full details. I do therapy once a week even though they wanted more, but it’s $103 a visit and I just can’t afford it and get my bills paid. I know there are others out there in need. I just thank you for taking the time to read my letter. He not only has a new Lifetime Christmas movie with Reba McEntire, and release 4 albums in the last 2 years, but he's constantly working on new stuff at his studios in Holden Louisiana....like his newest film, Poker Run!! And he is doing it all on his own terms....No Netflix, no Amazon Prime...everything is distributed through his own imprint. We caught up with John this morning and, as always, he's a man not afraid to offer his opinion!

Dear Morning Show - My name is Melonie. My mom, Pam, was diagnosed with lung cancer, stage 3, last year at Christmastime. She did numerous rounds of chemo and radiation and was put into remission. She’s had numerous MRIs and CT scans and that has added up to a big expense for medical bills. (She does have medicare and they pay 80%) A few months ago, she went back to be tested to make sure everything was still looking good and they found three spots on her brain. Two in the front and one in the back. Cancer that was listed as stage 3. She went through radiation again, but they could not do chemo because it wouldn’t help. We stuck with just the radiation and they said there’s a good chance that it would take care of it. In the meantime, my dad was driving back and forth 65 miles daily for her treatments and the gas cost was really hard on them. They are struggling and can’t afford to keep up with everything. The doctor has told them that it’s likely the cancer could come back and also told them it could come back in her abdomen which would be harder to treat due to the location. My parents cannot afford groceries half the time and just have a really rough time making ends meet. They are the type of people who would give you the shirt off their back if they could. My parents have been so good to me and I would appreciate any kind of help that could be given to them. It’s just a lot of stress on my mom and dad and I didn’t know what else to do.
