Welcome to the Pharmacy Residency Podcast, I've made a pivot because I believe this will be one of the most difficult years to get a residency if you want one as past graduates and working pharmacists start submitting their applications. In this episode, I'm talking about the difference between enrolling in the match and participating in the match as a way to better know your odds of success. You can find the documents I talk about here: https://natmatch.com/ashprmp/stats.html
An inpatient Midwest hospital pharmacist applicant was recently offered $25 an hour and with rural hospitals offering $50-60 an hour, it brings up an important question. If salary were not an issue, would you do residency instead of getting a full-time position right out of school? I think thought leader Richard Waithe has the very best answers which you can find featured here on the business page of Medium post https://medium.com/rxradio/thoughts-on-walmart-layoffs-8d66b0fa7b1d
I found this great article on how one hospital scores its candidates and it's really useful to know what you need to do to improve that score. I also talk about AACP, ACPE, NABP and how it all connects together. It's heartbreaking to see pharmacy school acceptances so high and accredited programs with first-time NAPLEX scores so low. I want to see students who are working their butts off in school get a fair shake, but it's going to be a tough road for many years to come IMHO.
