It is going to be an all-out battle between the Yankees and Blue Jays down the stretch. Last weekend the Blue Jays took advantage of a slumping Yankees lineup, but the Yanks got a bit of redemption this weekend by taking 2 of 3 in Toronto. RJ Loubier (@ThoseRJs) joined me to discuss the Yankees falling out of first place and then regaining the division lead. We also discussed injury news on Pineda, the Greg Bird call up, and read a mailbag submission.
It was a bad weekend for the Yankees, who got swept by the Blue Jays. Since the trade deadline when the Jays got Tulo and Price, they have not lost. In that time the Yankees have gone 4-7 and their lead has dwindled to 1.5 games. Scott and I discussed the ugly weekend of baseball, some bad decisions by Girardi, and why the offense is struggling. We also talk about Severino, who looked great in his debut and received a voicemail. Luis Severino will make his next start in the Bronx! This is huge news, as the Yankees are turning over a new leaf. Instead of trading their young talent for rental players they are counting on their system to produce talent that can help them at the major league level. Scott and I discuss expectations for Severino, the news that Pineda was placed on the DL, the series vs Texas and Chicago, and answer a voicemail. The MLB Trade Deadline has come and gone and the one move the Yankees made was to acquire Dustin Ackley. Scott and I were joined by Rich Kaufman to discuss all the rumors around the Yankees this week, what they did, what they didn’t do, and if we agree with them staying quiet at the deadline. It was a big week; four players were inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, two big name players were moved to AL contenders, and the Yankees continued to win series and extend their lead in the AL East. Scott and I discuss the HoF inductions, the upcoming MLB trade deadline, some Yankees trade and call-up rumors, and this week’s games. Alex Rodriguez went superhuman on Saturday, Tanaka had another good start vs Baltimore, and Chase Headley is starting to play better baseball. The All Star break is behind us and we can get back to Yankees baseball. Scott and I discussed the new Home Run Derby format, the All Star Game festivities, the ESPYS, and the weekend series vs Robbie Cano and the Mariners. The weekend was going as planned until the news that Rob Refsnyder was optioned to Triple-A. We get into all of it plus more in this week’s episode. The Yankees rolled into the All Star break 3.5 games up on Tampa for first place in the division. They are 8 games over .500 and have the 4th best record in the AL. After a strong series vs Oakland they took 2 of 3 from the Red Sox, just when Boston fans thought they might have a chance this season. Rob Refsnyder made his debut and all things are good in Yankees land. This week is the Home Run Derby and All Star Game, so we won’t have any new Yankees baseball until next weekend. We are planning to have a Scranton beat-writer on, Donnie Collins, to discuss some of the prospects in the system including Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, and Gary Sanchez.
The 2015 baseball season is exactly half over. The Yankees played their 81st game Sunday, and sit in first place by a game over Baltimore in the AL East. Scott and I discuss the 4th of July weekend, the World Cup, and of course, Yankees baseball. Scott and Andrew are back from traveling to break down the week of Yankees baseball. The team lost 2 of 3 to the Phillies, who are the worst team in baseball. Pineda and CC struggled, but Super Nova returned with a vengeance! The Yanks split against a young and talented Houston team, but the offense was jekyll and hyde. The Yankees have had a busy week of baseball filled with injuries, transactions, milestones, and old friends and teammates getting together for Old Timers Day.

Yankees bust out the broomsticks twice this week and are rolling with 6 wins in a row. We discuss the busy week of baseball, including Teixeira's dominance over King Felix, Stephen Drew coming up with some big hits, Tanaka returning from the DL, and Adam Warren's continued success. We also talk about roster moves and answer mailbag questions about the trade deadline, CC Sabathia, and the All Star Game.
We just can't figure the 2015 Yankees out. They swept the Royals then dropped 3 of 4 in Oakland. Scott and I break down what went right vs KC and what went wrong vs OAK; including ARod's improvements, McCann and Beltran staying hot, CC's continued struggles, and Girardi's questionable moves. We also answered mailbag submissions.
The Yankees are playing terrible baseball right now; mental and physical errors, bad pitching, and a lack of clutch offense has caused them to lose 10 out of 11 games. We have a bit of a longer episode this week because in addition to recapping the games, Scott and I also did quarter-season grades. We gave everyone on the team a letter grade and did over/under predictions for the rest of the season. The only bright spot right now is that Bernie Williams was honored before Sunday night's game - Bern Baby Bern!
