 LoLP 115: Jason Stapleton | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:50:47

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair is joined by Jason Stapleton, the host of the Jason Stapleton Program and the man behind the forthcoming LibertyOne, a brand new libertarian radio and television network dedicated to promoting individual liberty and free markets. Jason starts off by describing how he evolved from a full-blown neocon as a Marine serving in Afghanistan and Iraq into the fiery libertarian talk show host he is today. When Jason was a mercenary working for Blackwater in the Middle East, he began to realize that the mission statement in that region was not as advertised, as he came to understand that he was really working for crony capitalist interests. His disillusionmnet combined with his exposure to the ideas of liberty through Ron Paul's presidential campaigns led Jason down the path to becoming  a full-blown libertarian. Jason explains just what inspired him to divert resources from his business into creating the Jason Stapleton Program, a 5-day-per-week video and audio program focused on promoting libertarian ideas. Jason then details his recent encounter with an unruly police officer,  and Jason and Marc dissect what we can imply about the state of policing in the United States from the encounter. Finally Jason lays out his vision for Liberty One, and lets listeners know how they can get involved. As usual, stay tuned for Marc's thoughts in the wrap-up rant! After getting a wee bit ranty in response to King's charge that Rand was "shameless and disgusting" for fundraising off of the PATRIOT Act protests, Marc and Brian look at the tragic story of Kalief Browder. Browder was only sixteen years old when was he was arrested for allegedly stealing a backpack and spent three YEARS on Riker's Island awaiting trial. During that time he beaten and abused by guards and inmates, and spent almost two of his three years in solitary confinement. All this time, he never received a trial and the charges were eventually dropped. Finally, we wrap things up by looking at Rand's latest "Waste Report", which points out a U.S. government program to sponsor...a cricket team? Although he was selling only small amounts, an informant made repeated purchases in order to charge the individual with a felony. John witnessed all of the ancillary consequences that followed. The individual served a year in prison and he also served time in a halfway house. He struggled to find employment and build stability. Despite their not being a victim in the case, John’s friend struggled through a series of ongoing challenges becomes of the felony. Those experiences opened John’s eyes to the injustices that followed our nation’s commitment to mass incarceration. Through his Felony Friday articles and the Felony Report podcast, John helps others know what is going on. Recently, he profiled the case of Ronald Hammond, a Baltimore man who was sentenced to serve 20 years in jail because he distributed 5.4 grams of marijuana.
