On the inaugural episode of the Felony Friday Podcast host John Odermatt is joined by a familiar voice in the liberty movement, Lions of Liberty's own Marc Clair. John begins by sharing how he grew to become passionate about the plight of felons in our society and sheds light on the reasoning behind the switch from a weekly Felony Friday column to producing the weekly Felony Friday Podcast.Marc and John then weigh in on felonies trending in the news. They begin by discussing legislation in Georgia that would decriminalize marijuana in the state and expand the discussion by contemplating which method, legalization or decriminalization, is a better vehicle for rolling back the drug war. Next, the conversation takes a controversial turn as they discuss the irrational nature of DUI laws and provide some insight into how drunk driving could be regulated in a more free society.Finally, John challenges Marc to analyze two felonies by answering the question: "Is this a crime and should anyone do time?" The first felony Marc is asked about involves a high school student who has been charged with assault and battery after breaking an opponents nose during a game of water polo. In the today's episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in Professor Lauren K. Hall, associate professor of political science at the Rochester Institute of Technology! Lauren has done extensive work on classical liberalism and the relationship between classical liberal theory and the family. Lauren explains just what classical liberalism is and where it falls among all the terms we often here discussed in the liberty movement, from minarchy to anarchy to simply "libertarianism." Marc and Lauren discuss the gender wage gap, whether there is any legitimacy to the claims made regarding differences between the sexes in the business world, and the calls for government regulations to address it. In the final Pauluses and Minuses podcast of 2015, host Marc Clair welcomes in our resident Rand Paul expert and local curmudgeon Brian McWilliams to break down and examine the "Pauluses" and Minuses of the Year in #Randypants (you just KNOW you want to tweet that hashtag!) In today's episode, host Marc Clair is welcomes in Dr. Jeffrey A. Singer - a physician, columnist, and political activist. Dr. Singer is an adjunct scholar with the CATO Institute, has written extensively on the government's role in the health care industry, and has been heavily involved in political action to limit this role for much of his career. Dr. Singer details why he ended up pursuing the medical profession and how this pursuit ended up coinciding with his burgeoning libertarian philosophy.
