Just being able to connect to that and be present in that moment has allowed my emotions to not be all crazy, wild and all over the place but just to be centered in that joyful experience of every single moment.Thoughts on BreathingBreathing is so powerful. We talk about core and a lot of times people think,"Oh I've gotta build that 6 pack abs," but to me, core breathing is what gets the flow from head to toe and it's right centered there in our heart, in our true core. Breathing is actually the letter B in my book and as we breathe through things we can live through things and so breathing is essential, it's core.[show-notes-breathing]Suggested ResourcesBook: A Return to Love by Marianne WilliamsonBook: The Ideal Made Real by Christian D. All you have to do is take a moment to connect and believe in who you are. Stop frantically frenziedly searching out there, because joy isn't lost, it's in you. You can find that through a mindful connection of believing how awesome and powerful you are and what a great purpose you have for being here on this earth.Free Bonus Want more joy in your life?  120 Your Safe Place and Mindfulness Weekends With Bruce Langford | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 09:38

Your Safe Place and Mindfulness are one in the same according to many people I’ve talked to. When I think of my safe place, I think back to when I was five years old and I was with my dad. He was repairing a fence and I was nearby, playing under my favourite tree. Suddenly I hollered. Something was not right. Hundreds of ants had crawled under my pant legs, up my legs and toward my crotch and abdomen. It was a strange feeling. Quicker than I could imagine, my dad scooped me up, pulled off my pants and swept all the ants off me with his huge farmer hands. I was safe. I was instantly protected by my dad from the hundreds of ants. I had no idea I had stepped on an ant hill, causing the ant to invade this foreign territory. That moment of safety reminds me of the practice of mindfulness. You can always go to your safe place as long as you understand mindfulness and how to use the tools which work for you. Enjoy your safe place and your moments of mindfulness. Guest: Today I don’t have a guest. I will have a guest on future weekend episodes. Stay tuned.Quotes: The best gift you can give is to be someone’s safe place. – unknownWe all need a place that is safe and wholesome enough for us to return for refuge.  117 Routines and Mindfulness Weekends With Bruce Langford | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 07:33

Back to Routine. Back to the habits we’ve created for ourselves. Last week we talked about Celebrations and Mindfulness because it was Canada Day and Independence Day, and perhaps a holiday for you if you’re in another country. We need to be able to bounce back to routine after a weekend or a week away. I’ve been at Podcast Movement this week, and I’m recording this episode ahead of time. Notice how your body feels during times when you are in your routine. Does it feel comfortable? Does it help you relax to be in your routine? See if you can become totally tuned in to your body and mind so you can remember the feeling you enjoy during these times. Also notice how you feel when you’re not in routine, like maybe times of celebration, thinking back to what we talked about on last weekend’s show. It can be a great feeling to just let go and do whatever you feel like doing at any moment. There are times for this. What does your body feel like when you’re experiencing this. When you’re devoid of routine. Remember that you’ll appreciate the benefits of routine much more after periods of having no routine. Jon Kabat-Zinn talks about this in his book, Wherever You Go, There You Are. In the chapter called ‘Not Practicing Is Practicing’, he says, “How does the lack of regular practice affect your anxiety about time and about achieving certain results? How does it affect your relationships? Where do some of your most mindless patterns come from? What triggers them? Are you ready to hold them in awareness as they grip you by the throat, whether your formal practice is strong this week or not? Can you see that not practicing is an arduous practice?” Jon Kabat-Zinn asks questions that get me thinking, and the above questions are perfect examples. I think we agree, we all need routine in our lives, we all need good, positive habits that keep us on track. But routine can have a negative connotation as well. Routine can suck the life blood out of you just because of the sameness. That’s why I believe in Mindfulness. Because we need to be aware of our routine, whether it’s helping us or not. Is it taking away life’s pleasures, or helping us by keeping our bodies and minds somewhat consistent? See the quotes below by Paulo Qualo, Buddy Rich and Bruce Springstein. They are some quotes about the downside of routine. Not surprisingly, these quotes are by some pretty creative people. Use routine and habit to your advantage. Be mindful of the advantages and disadvantages. Read Hal Elrod’s book, The Miracle Morning. He is incredibly pumped up about the value of having a morning routine … and I agree with him. It’s helped me immensely. Thanks again for listening. Enjoy your weekend, enjoy your routine, and have some adventure too. Bye now.Guest:Today I don't have a guest. I mention authors Jon Kabat-Zinn and Hal Elrod. I would love to have both of these authors on my show some day.Quotes:You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. John C. MaxwellIf we do not respect our earth, the world of emotions and mental development will suffer. We all need rhythm in our food consumption, sleep patterns, cleanliness and exercise regime. This routine does not come naturally and it is learned and exercised from very young age. - Nuit of Conscious ParentingAdventure is dangerous, try routine. It is lethal. Paulo CoelhoSo, to come in with a set routine it’s something I’ve never believed in. It should depend on how you feel, because you play what you feel.  114 Celebrations and Mindfulness Weekends With Bruce Langford | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:00

Celebrations make life fun. How can we practice mindfulness even during times of celebrating? It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and especially in the preparations leading up to the event. Today is Canada Day, July 1, 2016. This is Canada's 149th birthday. I enjoy celebrating Canada Day with my family, and mindfulness makes it even better. Recently, I interviewed Steven Shalowitz from Mindfulness Mode. He is a world traveler and a sincerely mindful person. He has a podcast called The One Way Ticket Show. Each guest is invited to choose a place they'd like to visit and never come back. It can be a real or imaginary place, a place back in history or forward in time. The One Way Ticket Show encourages you to be creative with your destination. I decided I'd like to go back to Expo 67 in Montreal. That was the celebration of Canada's 100th birthday. I remember it as a most exciting time. The whole country was celebrating. For my one way ticket, I told Steven I'd like to be playing the piano (a grand piano of course) on the deck of a yacht docked in the harbor near Expo 67. I'd be playing the piano for an excited audience of people celebrating Canada's birthday.Guest:Steven ShalowitzNot an actual guest today, but a virtual guest. He was my guest on Mindfulness Mode Episode 112 World Traveler Steven Shalowitz Uses Mindfulness To Embrace Cultural Differences Quotes:“Life should be marked by growth and completed with a celebration, not survived through struggle and departed with a mourning.” ― Joseph Rain “Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” ― Dr. SeussFive Ways To Stay Mindful: Celebrations can be one of the trickiest times to maintain mindfulness. I've put together Five Ways To Stay Mindful At Times of Celebrations: 1. Habits - Be aware of your good habits and maintain them the best you can while leading up to the celebration, during the celebration and during your post celebration time. Even if you need to reduce the amount of time or change the place of your habitual practice, maintaining some aspect of that practice can help you remain grounded. 2 Journaling - Keep a journal and jot down your thoughts. Take 5 minutes and record what you're thinking, what you're enjoying right now, how you're feeling. Think of it as a diary if you like. It can help you enjoy your experience and stay in the moment. Remember, life is a journey and it's great to enjoy every step of the way. 3. Photography - Taking pictures can help you enjoy the present moment even more. It can make you think, what am I enjoying visually right now? Don't become obsessed where you feel like you need to be constantly taking pictures, because this can have the opposite effect where you're actually not enjoying the moment because you are looking for that perfect shot. 4. Sharing - If you're with a partner or family member, enjoy the time you're spending together. If you're not with someone you know, you may want to share eye contact with a person in the crowd you feel a momentary connection with. Holding hands, touching a friend on the arm, or other types of contact you're comfortable with can be a mindful way of enjoying the moment. 5. Quiet Time - Take a few minutes out to slow down your thoughts. This may be meditation to you or it may not. Maybe it's prayer. Maybe it is simply taking some time to relax your thought process. Researchers have proven that quieting the mind is a valuable exercise. This is a valuable part of mindfulness.Books:Montreal's Expo 67 by Bill CotterThank You Bonus: Sign up for the free Relax and Breathe Summit www.relaxandbreathesummit.com Free Relaxation techniques you can do anywhere.  111 Water and Mindfulness Weekends With Bruce Langford | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 08:25

Water and mindfulness; such a great combination. I never realized how much water could help me relax, especially just by going for a walk by the river or going to the lake. Water has an effect that is not easy to describe. Lao Tzu talks a lot about water in the Tao Ta Ching. In case you’re not familiar with it, the Tao Ta Ching is an ancient Chinese text dating back to the 4th century BC. Dr. Wayne Dyer studied it in detail and wrote an essay on each verse of the Tao Ta Ching. He then published it as a book called, Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life. Water helps me relax in a deep, thorough way. The Relax and Breathe Summit reminds me of the soothing, relaxing effect that water has on me. With less stress, I can relax and breathe more deeply. I’m pleased to be a guest on the Relax and Breathe Summit with Pompe Strater-Vidal. She is a Zen monk and a truly relaxed person. For me, I just get quiet and just live in the now. Most of us live our lives in the light of the past or the future. We live in the past in either shame or victim mentality, or something devastating happened and that holds us back. We become victim to that in our own mindset, that becomes one prison. Or the 'good old days', we wish we could go back to the good times.  That holds us back from what's in front of us. In front of us we often look at certain goals or what we want to accomplish and we say, 'I'll be happy when ...'. It could be a home, a job, an income. Anytime you have these goals, they can just become a bottomless well. Instead of looking at the past or the future for happiness, happiness is actually in the present. In the present you can find yourself going to a place of being grateful for the people in your life.  109 Breathe In The Universe To Cope With Mental Illness Says Speaker Michael Weinberger | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:29

Dealing with Bipolar Disorder, which caused eating challenges, depression and other difficulties, Michael decided to take measures into his own hands. He created a piece of software to help him cope by using mindfulness on a regular basis. The software kept him on-track and also helped him with his medications. Now Michael has made this solution available to others who deal with similar challenges. He also shares what he has learned about coping with mental illness by becoming a sought-after speaker and writer.Contact InfoWebsite: aplanforliving.com email: mweinberger@aplanforliving.comMost Influential PersonDr. Denise Brooks (My therapist)Effect on EmotionsMindfulness has allowed me to get my emotions in check, and emotions that were otherwise way out control. It gave me the opportunity to pause and take stock of where I was and what I needed to do.Thoughts on BreathingBreathing is probably the foundation of my mindfulness practice. Simply the act of taking a deep breath when I think something or I am racing gives me enough pause to stop and really determine what the right action is. I've always learned in order to change directions you have to stop first and you know my brain doesn't know how to stop without physical queues. Taking a deep in-breath and blowing it out is a significant part of that stopping. Similar to my concept of spirituality is I breathe in the universe and I breathe out Michael.
