We're all in a spiritual battle. The question is: are we fighting in it, or are we prisoners of war? We can't escape the battle, but we can put on the armor Scripture tells us to wear in order to fight on God's side!

Remember those old Army recruiting posters that declared, "Uncle Sam Wants YOU!"? Well, Someone else besides Uncle Sam wanted you before you were ever born! We've all faced rejection at one point or another, yet Scripture tells us that God chose each of us before the foundation of the world. When we join His army, we'll never be turned away -- but the cost of "enlisting" is our commitment to follow Him wholeheartedly.

One of the biggest problems facing American Christians is the tendency to be more tied to our American culture than to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul models for us how we can balance holding on to our beliefs while seeking to understand others. We've got to be willing to embrace diversity for the purpose of spreading the Gospel.

We usually think of sin in spiritual terms, but do we think of it in physical terms too? We all struggle with sin that's directly linked to a part of our physical body. Maybe it's our tongue. Maybe it's our stomach. How about our eyes? Or our hands? Whatever parts of the body cause us to struggle, God wants us to surrender them to Him so He can heal the pain that those sins cause in our lives.

God's Word instructs us on how we should live, and when we ignore His instructions, we face the consequences of our poor choices. His plan for living rightly isn't designed to kill our joy or take away our fun -- it's meant to give us a full life worth living. Instead of being set in our ways, what might happen if we changed our perspective and became set in His ways instead?

It's easy to envy the lives of the ungodly sometimes! While they enjoy seemingly careless and rewarding lifestyles, we're busy struggling to live God's way and continue facing trial after trial. But the truth is, trouble comes for everyone sooner or later, and when our time of trouble comes and we've chosen to live faithfully and trust God, He'll answer us if we call out to Him. Not only that, but He'll give us strength to make it through because we've chosen what's right and godly.

The Church is the bride of Christ, and Christ loved His bride so much that He died for her. We each have a choice to make: we can fight Him and live our own way, or we can submit to Him and His will for our lives. As His bride, are we going to go head-to-head with the God who gave up everything for us, or are we going to let Him be the head of His Church and submit to His authority?

God loves us regardless of what we do -- not because of who we are, but because of who He is! When we accept the fact that we're loved unconditionally by the God who made us, we can respond in obedience to who He's made us to be. What if, instead of focusing on "doing" in order to define our "being", we let our "being" determine our "doing"?
