Play the Field (Eavesdropping) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

If you’ve ever played team sports, you know that you have to interact with a lot of people. There are all of your teammates, and there’s the team that you’re competing against. When everyone is on the field it can be kind of crowded, so you have to work at communicating with a lot of people at the same time. When it comes to dating, some people prefer to meet a lot of people at once. They don’t want to settle down right away. Instead, they like to play the field and communicate with a lot of dates at the same time. For them, it’s better to stay active and keep moving. Read on to find out who wants to play the field in this English lesson about dating. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Secondhand Stores (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Where do you go when you need new clothes for work or an awesome costume for a party? If you have lots of money, you probably shop at the mall or at special stores that sell high-end items. If you’re broke, though, you might need a different option. Thrifting, or shopping at secondhand stores, allows people to find used clothing in good condition at great prices! It’s savvy to shop on a budget. It’s also exciting. Unlike large retail stores, which sell the same clothes in lots of sizes, thrift stores have lots of different clothes. Finding the perfect shoes or coat can be a bit of work, but that makes success even more rewarding! Learn how Lily tries to convince Marni to go thrifting in this English lesson. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Smooth Things Over (Eavesdropping) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

When you were a kid, you probably watched your mom or dad make their bed. Maybe you even helped. Or perhaps you’ve stayed in a hotel where someone else makes your bed. In both cases, the way to make a bed look good and in order is to make sure it has smooth sheets and blankets. If two people are fighting, they probably aren’t having a good time. They want the fight to be over as soon as possible, and they need to find a way to smooth things over between them. It’s like taking a messy bed and making it neat again. It may take a little effort, but in the end, the room looks and feels better. Find out why Amanda and Mason need to smooth things over in this English lesson about excited parents. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Yards (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

How would your dream yard look? Would you have a bright green lawn with a white fence? Or would you prefer a jungle of tall trees and exotic plants? Maybe you’d rather have no yard at all. Whatever type of natural area people want around their houses, one thing is certain: yard upkeep is a lot of work! Having a nice lawn means getting a good lawn mower and spending enough time outside to keep up the yard. A visit to the hardware store is sometimes necessary to buy tools for yard work. Of course, some people prefer not doing the dirty work outside. They aren’t hyped about the yard, so they pay money and have other people do the work instead. Learn how Jeff and Mason feel about yard work in this English lesson. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Animal Shelters (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Have you ever thought about bringing a rescue dog home from the pound? There are so many animals who need people to care for them, so if you’re in the market for a pet, visiting an animal shelter is a wonderful option. If you’re only interested in a purebred dog, the pound might not be your best choice, but it’s great if you’re OK with adopting a mutt. Mostly it’s about finding a pet who you bond with and who wants to go home with you! Read more to learn Marni and Amanda’s opinions about animal shelters in this English lesson about finding a pet. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Art Galleries (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It’s hard to find a cheap date! Dinner costs money. Drinks cost money. Movies cost money. If you’re short on cash but want to have a fun night out, there is another option for you. Visit a local art gallery. On opening night, artists usually provide free wine to people who stop by to see their exhibit. Sip your drink and discover what inspired the artists to paint such beautiful portraits or landscapes. You shouldn’t feel pressured to buy anything. Mostly, the artists hope you’ll tell your friends about their work. Positive word of mouth will help improve their reputation. Find out what Mason and Amanda think about art galleries in this English lesson. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

It's Like Pulling Teeth (Eavesdropping) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Have you ever had a tooth pulled out by a dentist? Dentists often have to pull teeth out because they aren’t falling out on their own, or sometimes to make room for other teeth. Usually the teeth being pulled are really, truly stuck in your mouth, doing everything possible to stay there. It takes a whole lot of effort for a dentist to get them out. When you try to get a friend to do something and they’re being stubborn, it can feel a lot like trying to get that stuck tooth out. Teeth are supposed to be attached to our mouths, of course, but people should be a little more flexible. It can get truly frustrating when you want someone to agree with you and they simply refuse to see your point of view. Learn about who’s making Marni feel like she’s pulling teeth in this English lesson about a surprise party. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Being Sick (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Achoo! Uh-oh. Are you getting sick? Sneezing, headaches, and a warm, red face are all signs that you have a cold. Most of the time, extra rest can help people feel better. Sometimes, though, an illness is more serious, so people need medicine to get over it. When health problems don’t go away after a couple of days, it’s time to talk to a doctor. The doctor might use a thermometer to check the patient’s temperature. He or she can look at the symptoms and diagnose the sickness. Find out if Amanda is really ill, or if she’s just imagining her health problems in this English lesson about being sick. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

First Aid (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

You’re cooking dinner for friends and cut your finger with a knife. It’s not serious, but it’s bleeding and it’s important to be hygienic. All you need is a band-aid, but even if you have one, it’s probably in the back of the medicine cabinet. There’s nothing within reach in the kitchen. You can’t believe you don’t have a first aid kit in the house! It’s not the law to have first aid kits in homes, but maybe it should be. Think about it: Headache? Here’s some aspirin in your first aid kit. Something stuck in your hand? Use these tweezers. Cut yourself? There are band-aids of all shapes and sizes. You can even put a kit together by yourself. If you think about it, it’s pretty smart to keep everything in the same place. Find out what Devan has to tell Jeff about a time she wished she had a first aid kit in this lesson about good health. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Try It On For Size (Eavesdropping) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

One of the funny things about buying clothes online is that you don’t get a chance to see if the clothing fits you. Unlike shopping at a store, there’s no fitting room. You just have to make a good guess and hope that it works out. Usually, it does, but sometimes you end up with shoes that are too big, or a pair of pants that are just too small. When that happens, you might wish that you had been able to try the clothing on for size before you bought it. To try something on for size doesn’t just apply to clothes. It doesn’t even just apply to size. It means to try something out before you commit to it. So, for example, if you’re thinking about moving to a new town, you might take a vacation there for a week to try it on for size and see if you like it. Or if you’re thinking about getting a tattoo, you might give yourself a fake tattoo first, just to try it on for size and see if you like having a drawing on your skin. Greta’s trying something on for size, but Mason doesn’t know that she hasn’t committed to it yet. Find out what she’s trying on in this English lesson. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Monsters University (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Monsters University is a new release from the animation studio Pixar. It’s a prequel to the popular Pixar movie Monsters, Inc., and it tells the story of a few monsters who go to college. These monsters don’t major in typical subjects like history or mathematics, though. They major in “scaring.” Though they don’t appear on screen, some famous actors have contributed their voices to Monsters University. Billy Crystal is the voice of monster Mike Wazowski, and John Goodman is the voice of monster Sulley Sullivan. This voiceover work seems very popular for actors these days. Is it possible that it requires less work from them, but they still get paid lots of money? Find out if Greta and Mason are excited about Monsters University in this movies English lesson. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Tourists (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Every major metropolitan city is crowded with tourists, especially in the summer. Tourism is an important part of many cities’ economies, because tourists spend money at restaurants, hotels, and cultural attractions. Also, many people have jobs in the tourism industry. There are some downsides to tourism, too, though. The tourist crowds can get to be too much. And sometimes tourists are rude, and they don’t try to understand the customs of a city. They act as if the people of the city should be there to serve them. Find out Mason and Marni’s take on tourists in this cities English lesson. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com
