Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! when Scott McCausey talks baseball and faith with Mickey Weston and his wife, Lisa. Mickey Weston joined the ministry of UPI in 1996 after playing fifteen years of professional baseball. He had the privilege of playing parts of five years in the majors with the Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, and the New York Mets from ’89-’93. He joined UPI part-time in the fall of ’96 and coached the next three years in the New York Mets’ minor league system. Mickey came on staff full-time in the fall of ’99 as the Associate International Director and in 2003 assumed the role as International Director. Mickey ministered with UPI while he was a player taking his first trip overseas to South Korea in 1986. Since 1986, Mickey has worked in almost forty different countries around the world. With a passion for different cultures and peoples, Mickey utilizes the international trips for discipleship with current and former players to give them a greater worldview for Jesus. UPI works with missionaries and national churches to proclaim Jesus through the game of baseball. Mickey and his wife, Lisa, have four children: Erica, Kayla, Drew, and Marissa, all of whom have been home schooled up until high school. The Westons live in Valparaiso, IN., where Mickey is the chaplain for the Chicago White Sox.

Barbara Warren and her husband, Charles, live on a farm in the beautiful Ozarks where they raise beef cattle. Barbara has had short stories, articles, and devotions published in magazines such as Home Life, Mature Living, and Journey, and is a member of the writing pool for Open Windows, the Southern Baptist devotional magazine. Barbara’s mystery, The Gathering Storm was published by Jireh Publishing and was later brought out in e-book by Eddie Jones of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas. Her romantic suspense, Murder at The Painted Lady, was published in hardback by Avalon Books. It was then brought out in paperback by Amazon Publishing. She has taught in her church for several years. She is a former youth leader and enjoys working with young people of all ages. God and church are very important parts of her life.

Influenced by a steady diet of Mad Magazine, Wacky Packages, novelty records, and comic books, ApologetiX lead singer and lyricist J. Jackson started writing parodies as a kid. He became a born-again Christian in January 1988, and his newfound interest in the Bible had a profound influence on his parodies. A journalism major in college, J. worked in the public relations field before going full-time with ApologetiX. He started getting together with some other like-minded Christian musicians in 1990, and this loose-knit group eventually played its first concert as ApologetiX on March 27, 1992. Like many other rock and rollers, J. is surrounded by beautiful women—his wife, Lisa, and four daughters, Janna, Heather, Kelly, and Natalie. They also have a dog (Skippy), three mice (Gracie, Cookie, and Chocolate), and a fish (Diamond). They make their home in Pittsburgh, PA.

Samuel Davis was born and raised in Clear Lake, Texas where he attended high school and participated in track and field, and football – both of which he dropped after auditioning for Julius Caesar. That school play tapped an interest he had in acting from a young age. While attending the University of Texas at Austin, Samuel earned roles in student films and commercials. In addition to Abel's Field, he has also had parts in feature-length films such as: A Close Divide and New Hope. A sixth-generation Texan who is fluent in Spanish, Samuel lives in Austin.
