This week we review Cloud Atlas as it was the only one of the four new films coming to theaters either Laremy or I saw. We also talk about the idea of the Oscar injustice and if it's something we ever think about, what kind of control over a film directors should be allowed to have, who the most powerful directors in the industry are right now and what films we would show to our children, if we had children, which we don't. We even find time to rank both Quentin Tarantino and Sam Mendes' films almost on a whim and then we have Over/Unders, Buy or Sells and the new "Would you rather..." feature to close things out. Today's episode of the podcast starts off with a conversation on the current state of film journalism/criticism compared to earlier days and from there goes all over the map so there is really no easy way of describing it. We discuss Steven Soderbergh's movies, Twitter, new DVDs and Blu-rays, RottenTomatoes, Tyler Perry, over/unders and a new segment started by listener "Snicket" called "Would you rather" that we quite enjoyed. Despite the all-over-the-place randomness, we hope you enjoy.

As always with the Friday podcast, today we review the new movies in theaters which means reviews of Alex Cross and Paranormal Activity 4 along with brief comments on Holy Motors. We also talk about Joaquin Phoenix's comments on the Oscars, a Box-Office Challenge update with some astounding budgetary numbers for The Hobbit films, your questions, Over/Unders, Buy or Sell and Watch This or Watch That.

Today's podcast is a little shorter than normal due to meetings and such, but we still managed to cover a lot of ground while also talking a lot of nonsense as Laremy went to the Tobolosky Files in Seattle and needs your help identifying a random actress he can't place and I got a new desk. Beyond that we did find time to discuss new DVD and Blu-ray releases, Oscar odds and the Fall Box-Office Challenge while also answering your questions, exploring over/unders, buy or sells and the regular Watch This or Watch That segment.

After a failed attempt earlier in the day where Laremy's side of the conversation didn't record, Laremy and I return to the RopeofSilicon Studios to make sure we brought you the Friday episode of the podcast you've come to expect. We can't guarantee it will be as good as it was the first time around, but we couldn't leave you hanging with reviews of Ben Affleck's Argo, Sinister, Seven Psychopaths and Smashed hanging in the balance. Today's Tuesday edition of the RopeofSilicon podcast touches on the latest DVD and Blu-ray releases as always, finds time to discuss early reactions to Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, takes a longer look at the Fall Box-Office Draft than normal and delves, once again, into the continued exploration of Laremy's fear of horror films.

Friday time means movie review time on the RopeofSilicon podcast and today we give a few thoughts on Butter and The Oranges, two films we saw at last year's Toronto Film Festival that are hitting theaters today, as well as new releases Frankenweenie and Taken 2. We also discuss the Fall Box-Office Challenge a bit as we are finally getting into territory where more films will be in theaters and we address a question from Marlon Wallace asking what it would be like if the Oscars just went away and it takes us down an unexpected path. Over/Unders, Buy or Sells and Watch This or Watch That also play a part as do your questions and comments and we also announce a prize for the next podcast so you are going to want to get your thoughts in the comment section for that.

A packed episode this week as we finally have some interesting news to discuss as the Oscars near and are starting to dominate the conversation. Seth MacFarlane was named Oscar host, we got to hear a tease of Adele's theme song for Skyfall and Matt Reeves was named director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. We also discuss the new DVDs and Blu-rays coming out today, waste time talking about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, play a little over/under, buy or sell and watch this or watch that and explore the studio space answering listener questions.

We're back from the Toronto Film Festival and ready to record as we bring you the first RopeofSilicon Podcast in almost two weeks and we have a lot to discuss. The majority of the time is spent going over all the films we saw in Toronto with longer discussions for films such as The Master, Cloud Atlas, Seven Psychopaths and Anna Karenina and brief comments on all the rest. We make sure to get to a few of your questions, over/unders, new DVD and Blu-rays and a special TIFF inspired Watch This or Watch That.

We're a bit delirious one day before leaving for the Toronto Film Festival so please bear with us. Also note, this will be the last podcast for two weeks as this coming Friday and all of next week we'll be in Toronto and unable to record, so you have a little time to catch up on episodes you may have missed or simply take a much-deserved break from our rambling. That said, this week we discuss what we're looking forward to seeing in Toronto, new DVDs and Blu-rays, plenty of your questions and the latest news, over / unders, buy or sell and "What This or Watch That". It's a packed episode, but delirium can do that as you'll note in the War Horse meets Bane segment at the end of the show.

Without any movies to review and both of us currently preparing for the Toronto Film Festival we offer what is probably the most random podcast to date as we talk about essentially whatever comes to mind along with answering some of your questions, doing a little over/under, tossing in a "Watch this or Watch That", a small dose of Buy or Sell and just, like I said, whatever comes to mind.

It's time to bust out the Fall Box-Office Draft as Brad is declared victor in the Summer Challenge and along with that we discuss Lawless, new DVDs and Blu-rays, your questions, over / unders, some What This or Watch That and just general movie merriment all around.
