Ezra has an epic meltdown when he finds out the Jews have been intermarrying with the pagans of the land in Ezra 9:1-3. As we look deeper into this issue and see both the prophetic and practical implications we learn why Ezra was so incensed and why mixing with the world is not the plan God has for us.
Ezra leads a second wave of Jews back into Jerusalem following their Babylonian captivity in Ezra 7-8. As we study their return we see them coming back to the land not by the efforts of men nor by the commands of a king, but by the hand of God orchestrating all things as they go forth.

Tattenai is attempting to stir up trouble in Jerusalem by questioning the building of the Temple in Ezra 5:1 - 6:14. As the first wave of former captives return to Jerusalem in Ezra 1-3 they get straight to work rebuilding their temple, their city and their way of life. As we study this small group who dared to return we learn how we too can be a part of what God is doing and why we should not be like the complacent captives who stayed in Babylon.

As the foundation for the new temple is laid in Ezra 3:10-13, the emotional responses of the people run the gamut from rejoicing to weeping. As we study what triggered these reactions, we see how methods, modes and traditions may change over time, but the Word of the Lord must remain constant.
