What the Mixtape?! (Side Two) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Greetings friends near and far, met and unmet, DJ Playaduster here representing Destination Burning Man with Side Two of What the Mixtape? Get yourself ready for a hour long mix of electronic music based on DJs and producers who played at What the Festival?! in Oregon the last weekend of July 2012. This was the best festival my PNW Get Found crew and I have ever experienced off the playa and the rush of inspiration we felt in the White River canyon has carried over in to this 2 side music mix tape project. From the environment to the art to the people to the lighting to the vibes to the splash pool and ESPECIALLY to the expertly curated schedule of to-notch DJs, the organizers did it right. We can't thank them enough for all the special touches, large and small. We're going to explore some of the more experimental bass frequencies that What the Festival offered, including Sepalcure, Scuba and Sinjin Hawke, taste some acid crunk from Low Ryderz, get soothed with a long set from Emancipator and dabble in some forward-leaning low-end wavelengths from Gladkill, Bluetech, PhuturePrimitive and Sugarpill. Love, DJ Playaduster www.destinationburningman.com

Yes We Did : Obama Hopecast : Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Left speechless & shaking with an intense, spiritual joy after the 2008 presidential election, I was so happy for myself, for my country and for the whole entire world that I came to a rare loss for words. This "hopecast" is my best attempt to describe and share some portion of the mix of emotions the election of Barack Obama has inspired in me. It is especially informed by looking backwards, because you can't know where you're going unless you know where you've come from. Part two centers around Obama's election night victory speech in Chicago, interspersed with Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech from the March on Washington in 1963: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character." Bob Marley, the Neville Brothers, Bill Frisell, Marvin Gaye, Common, Z-Trip, Bonobo, James Brown, the Blind Boys of Alabama, George Clinton, Fela, Prince, Public Enemy and assorted hymns, field hollers and cameos from Dubya inform this tribute, along with a cast of dozens more. I hope that my Hopecast serves as an audio record of history in the making, set to a fitting groove. Viva Obama! Part one of the Hopecast is available at www.podcastcafe.org/episodes.  A Lament for Tibet | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

DJ Fundi's new mix, posted a few months ago at www.PodcastCafe.org, is inspired by the Dalai Lama -- the Ocean of Wisdom, Holder of the White Lotus, protector of the Land of Snows and an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, Buddha of Compassion. It is a Lament for Tibet, and is dedicated to the merit of all Tibetans who are enslaved in their own homeland. I made this mix during the Dalai Lama's recent visit to the Pacific Northwest, a time that coincided with the worst violence in Tibet in decades. I was feeling both inspired and joyous at His Holiness' close proximity to Sunnyland Studio as well as burdened, angry and helpless as the Chinese government was arresting, torturing and murdering Tibetans in their villages and monastaries. I think this musical mix reflects the yin and yang of these two emotional poles. Much of the music comes from the Himalayan region, and includes chanting rituals from Tibetan monks, traditional Nepalese songs, long-form Indian ragas and Chinese folk music. There is also music that I felt had an affinity to the prayer I am making with the mix, music that I was often surprised to hear how natural it blended with the unusual Himalayan vibe: a Celtic singer singing what sounds like a lament, ambient tracks from Tortoise, Cylob and Plasmalamp, medieval European choir songs and Toumani Diabate from Mali playing the kora. Mickey Hart, DJ Cheb i Sabbah and Wayne Shorter also make appearances in this pilgrimage across the spine of Asia. Feedback and salutations are invited: djfundi@podcastcafe.org
