All-Gates Realmgate Wars Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

All-Gates Realmgate Wars Review The All-Gates Realm Gates Wars 4 book was released today and in this episode I review the book and also talk about the campaign we are running at our local games club. From Games Workshop: The fourth and final instalment of the Realmgate Wars saga, this book follows the sieges of four All-gates. The newly-reborn Alarialle and her sylvaneth fight desperately against the armies of Nurgle in realm of Life. Khorne’s Bloodbound have control over the gate to the realm of Beasts. Minions of Tzeentch guard the gate to the realm of Metal, and an entire Extremis Chamber is deployed to the realm of Fire… This book draws the Realmgate Wars story to an epic close, with massive battles and incredible feats of heroism on page after page! As well as the thrilling narrative in this 304-page hardback, you’ll find: – Four new Time of War sections – rules that anyone with any army can use for fighting in fantastical locations that wildly change the way Warhammer Age of Sigmar games are played, including new game effects, new spells for any wizard and a new triumph table; – 11 new Battleplans – any Warhammer Age of Sigmar army can be used to play out these scenarios, adding depth and variety to your games; – six detailed stage-by-stage painting guides for armies appearing in the book – get your armies looking exactly as they do when fighting these battles, with an awe-inspiring showcase of expertly-painted Citadel miniatures for inspiration; – 22 Warscrolls and 11 Warscroll Battalions for Stormcast Eternals, Fyreslayers, Ironjawz, Slaves to Darkness, Daemons of Nurgle and Clans Pestilens armies. The All-Gates book is a really nice book.  Some of the highlights for me were the images of huge armies doing battle.  There is a shot of an Ironjawz force besieging a fortress and there must be over 1000 models in the picture. There are also some cool ‘how to’ guides showing how to build some Fellbarrens terrain pieces and also how to make your gaming tables look like the Realm of Beasts Scarlands. Gaming Club Campaigns At our local club we are currently running a league/campaign. It has a very loose structure with the emphasis on taking part and getting your army painted rather than winning games. The way we are doing the scoring is as follows. Win = 3 points Draw = 2 points Loss = 1 Point Kill general = 1 Point Fully painted = 1 Point Each month there is a new hobby challenge.  So far we have had paint a terrain piece, paint a Silver Tower app character and now we are building objective markers. There are no rules on army selection or battle types so everyone is free to play any type of game that they like.     Questions?  Sylvaneth Battletome Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:45

I have the Sylvaneth Battletome review to share with you! I was given a copy of the book to review and if you want the super short version, I am 100% blown away by this book. The main highlights of this book are; * LOADS of new rules! * Massively different to all previous battle tomes. * Huge range of model releases. * Alarielle The Everqueen * Drycha Hamadreth * Branchwych * Tree-Revenants * Spite-Revenants * Kurnoth Hunters (Bow/Sword/Scythe) The Sylvaneth Battletome is 144 pages and is packed cover to cover with a slew of new models, artwork and rules. Sylvaneth Battletome Warscroll Summaries. New Sylvaneth Warscrolls Alarielle The Everqueen Awesome new huge monster kit. 16 Wounds. 3+ Save. Heals D3 wounds per hero phase A 30” Ranged attack that does D6 damage at all times. 4 Talon of Dwindling attacks that can auto kill at end of phase. 5 Attacks from the war beetle that do 5 damage! Charge attack that does D3 Mortal wounds unit near a terrain piece. Soul Amphorae – Heals Friendlys or brings on new units. You can roll but still choose a lower result. Casts 3 spells, Metamorphosis turns slain units into Wyldwoods. Once per battle Command Ability lets all Sylvaneth reroll failed wound rolls. Matched Play points for Alarielle are 620. Just for comparison, Nagash is 900, Gordrakk is 700, Lord Celeastant on Start Drake is 600, and Archaon is 700. Drycha Hamadreth Drycha is a new monster kit. 10 wounds, 3+ Save. 2 missile attacks to choose from. Colony of Flitterfuries is a cloud effect that starts at 18” and hits every enemy unit. Roll 10 dice for each unit and causes a mortal wound on a 6. Swarm of Squirmlings hits a single unit but rolls against each model to cause a mortal wound on a sliding damage chart starting at 3+. In combat she has 2x damage 2 attacks and a 2D6 4+/4+ attack. Mercurial Aspect gives her the chance to increase he attacks or shrug off the effects of damage. Song of Spite give Re-roll wound rolls of 1 to friendly Spite-Revenants She is also a wizard and her own spell is 2D6+2 vs Bravery for all units in 10” 280 points in Matched Play. Spirit Of Durthu Similar to the Durthu rules from the Wood Elves compilation, but now this is not a named character and you can field multiples of them. The ranged attack is now called Verdant Blast and has 15” range. 4+/3+ rend -1 and D3 damage. It starts with 6 attacks and can add an extra 2 by channeling life-force but losing D3 wounds. Champions of the Everchosen ability gives bravery to friendly models and the Solem Guardian ability can deflect wounds from nearby Heros onto the Spirt of Durthu. (This can give Alarielle and 4+ Ward) Treelord Ancient Same as old rules other than gains Hero keyword and a Command Ability that gives preroll 1’s on armour save to Sylvaneth within 10” Treelord and Branchwraith stayed the same as Grand Alliance Order. Branchwych New Hero Wizard. Very similar to a BranchWraith and has the Unleash Spites spell, cast on a 5+ and hits all units in 9” roll number of dice equal to casting value and cause mortal wounds on a 6. Spite-Revenants and Tree-Revenants New unit type and kit. Fantastic looking Spite/Aelf/Dryad looking infantry. Tree Revenants have a fairly standard stat line and champion that does double damage. all have rend -1. 2 abilities give them the Walk the Spirit Path ability and also can preroll a single dice per phase. Spite-Revenants cause nearby terrain to be haunted, this forces opponents to roll an extra dice for battleshock andune the highest (great against Deamons!) They also give -1 Bravery to nearby enemy units. The back story for these units are very interesting.  They seem to be the descendants of the original Woo...

The Generals Handbook Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:55

The Generals Handbook review is here!  I have a copy of the book and cover the contents in this episode. I talk about points, campaigns, allegiance abilities, how summoning and army building works and lots more. I was lucky enough to be sent a (signed!) copy of the generals handbook to say thanks for helping with the play testing and here is my review of the book. The Generals Handbook Review video The episode is available via the podcast but also on YouTube. Transcription Intro Hello and welcome to the Bad Dice Podcast. This episode I am going to be doing a Generals Handbook review. I have got my copy right here and if you are watching the YouTube video you can actually see the copy in the background. I am lucky enough to get an early copy for review and it kind of also ties into the fact that we were brought in, myself and some of the other guys, to do a show on this before and do some play testing and got to meet the team behind The Generals Handbook. I am lucky to get my hands on it early for a review of the book and this is what this episode or YouTube show if you are watching on YouTube is going to be all about. Setting the tone First off, I want to talk a bit about The Generals Handbook itself.  Obviously everyone in my circle of friends, (because I am a hardcore tournament gamer some might say or I used to be, I used to think I used to I suppose) A lot of people are mainly interested in the points but one thing that is really apparent is you get ahold of this book and read through the book, go through all the different aspects of the book, it is actually not just all about that. There is enough stuff in there that if you are not even in the slightest bit interested in points values or any of that, you do not want anyone telling you how to play your games, you want to do what you are doing and have been doing for a long time and carry on that way, then you are just fine. There is plenty in this book for you. I am going to go down some of the key points of the book and then we will come back and readdress and look down in more depth at some of the details of it as well. What you got here is basically a complete toolbox of rules and they can combine in any way your gaming group likes. That is the important thing. The way your gaming group wants to play you can use this book to tweak your gaming to suit your group. I think that is really cool and there is a couple of aspects of that as well. One of the things I really like is I think it is on the first couple of pages there is a spread in there which looks like it is from the old rule book. So the old editions or anyone playing Age of Sigmar and not having played any other editions might not know this – the first few pages in the book just set the tone out for the whole game. It told you what you can and cannot do with the rules and a lot of the time it really went into fact that it is just a game. They have the most important rule section in there and this Generals Handbook is the same. It tells you that although this is a guide on ways to play – four different ways of organizing campaigns, lots of different narrative and open gaming rules in there as well and the four pitch battle points system – although there is all that in here, if you guys want to do something different then you very well can continue it. It really does stress that. So anyone out there and I have seen a lot of this week on the social media, people saying ‘uh it’s going to be the worse thing that happened to the game.’ You know it is not because this book has got an absolute ton of battle plans and tons of wars that you can use and play and you do not even have to worry about the points. If your opponent wants to come and count all the points in his army, you can still just put down what you like and if you do that and your opponent thinks it is over the top or to under you have...

 Ironwarp Citadel at Warhammer World – ep138 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:31

The Ironwarp Citadel was unveiled at Warhammer World last week and I went over to check out the new display. The Citadel stands at over 8 feet tall and has more stormcast than I’ve ever seen in 1 place (and I saw all the retributers at the SCGT!) Its an amazing display and well worth taking a look at. The Ironware Citadel Realmgate wars book has some behind the scenes photos of how it was built along with finished photos and also a short story and rules.  A new time of war, battle tome and war scroll battalions. On the episode I mention a few things that you should check out. The 2 videos I mentioned from games workshop. Questions?  Citadel Gem Paints reviewed – ep 136 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:42

Citadel Gem Paints reviewed – ep 136 I review the citadel gem paints and the other new additions to the Citadel paint range. I spent a few hours playing with range of new paints and have a bunch of videos and photos to share. I found the 3 gem effects to be really interesting to use.  They create an effect that is ‘upside down’ in relation to the classic gem painting effects. Let me know how you guys are finding the new paints. Questions? If you have any questions at all about this episode feel free to get in touch. You can contact Ben all over the web!  Building a Community – Ep 135 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:22

Building a Community – The Bad Dice Guide I wanted to give some tips on building a community for gaming in your local area. I’ve seen a lot of talk online recently about people not being able to find local players in their area.  I believe that anyone can build a community for regular games night and an awesome Age of Sigmar gaming group In this podcast episode I give you some easy to follow guides for building a community locally and talk about the exact process that I used to go from 2 of us playing Age of Sigmar to last month (May 2016) having the biggest AoS gaming night that I have heard of in the world. (I would love to be wrong about this, let me know if you had more than 13 tables of Age of Sigmar in 1 club night) Below you will find some really simple tips that can help you find games, build a games club and promote that club and start building a community in your area. Tip number 1. This is the easiest but also the most important thing you can do for building a community. TELL EVERYONE! Like I said, easy. Tell everyone you know that you have started a gaming night (not will be, HAVE) Let them know the time and date and how regular it will be.  If you don’t know any of these details it doesn’t matter, just make them up you can always change the details at any time. Arrange a night to play. Venue doesn’t matter. It could be a store, games club, someones house, wherever. Tell everyone you know and try to get at least 1 other player. 2. Book a Night OK, so after you tell everyone you have booked a night you had better get it done! The details here are not important.  What you are aiming for is to arrange something that is going to be regular.  How regular is also not important. We decided on monthly meetings.  This worked for our group for a number of reasons, the most important reason is that we are all very busy and struggle to find time for gaming.  This has made it very easy for us to skip meet ups and not commit to games.  Setting 1 night a month enabled everyone to book ahead and make sure we had plenty of notice to make sure we are available for games night. An additional bonus with monthly meetings is that it makes players feel that if they miss a night then because the next one is a long time away they are more likely to want to make it to this club night rather than go 2 months without gaming. 3. Rince and Repeat, and repeat and repeat. This is important.  keep telling everyone you know that you have a  regular gaming night and stick to those nights. After after each night book the next one right away.  Tell everyone you know how awesome your last game was (if it was rubbish don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story!!!) and see if you can get at least 1 more player. You can easily play a 3 player game. You and your opponent should post photos of your last game on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and local forums. Also post work in progress army pics for your next games night. Keep plugging your next night and telling people they are welcome to come along (this is where once a month was good for us, plenty of notice) offer to lend people an army if they just want to try AoS out. Age of Sigmar is really easy to play with teams and un even numbers so don’t fall into the trap of having to pair off. Here are a few good 3 player battle plans from the Realmgate Wars books. Convergence of Fate has been given out with Games Workshop webstore orders. This one can be found in the Balance of Power realm gate wars book. 4. Promote, Promote, Promote. Contact all the podcasts/bloggers/you tubers and ask them to plug your gaming group. Fill in the blanks and send this to people on the list below to get started. Hi,

 Shar’Tor the Executioner – Ep 133 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:12

Warhammer Fest, Flesh Eater Courts and Shar’Tor the Executioner are the topics for this weeks episode. Shar’Tor the Executioner I picked up Shar’Tor the Exectuioner last week and have built and painted him.  On this episode I talk about my thoughts on the model and also the chat I had with the rules writer at Warhammer Fest.  At the time of recording the model was only avalianble from Warhammer fest but should be on the Forge World website soon. Warhammer Fest Talking about Warhammer fest, I spent last Saturday at the event.  It was an awesome day that far surpassed all my expectations I was about to speak with members of the games workshop design team, including Jervis Johnson, the Warhammer TV crew, Authors, hobby team and lots more.  I even managed to find time for a demo game of Warhammer Quest. Flesh-Eater Courts The Flesh-Eater courts battle tome was released this week and despite having no new models it is packed with new rules and a fantastic new background for the Ghouls.  I’ve played a game against part of the new faction and love how it plays. I have a new website to talk about TGA.Community.  The Grand Aliiance community is a hub for worldwide Age of Sigmar activity.  Chat about the game, share photos, find local players and promote the hobby. This months gaming club night at Derby Wargames Society had 26 players playing Age of Sigmar! With nearly 40 people across all game systems.  The club scene in Derbies thriving with AoS. Let me know what your local club is doing. If you want to get I touch with me say hi on Twitter

Warhammer Quest Silver Tower Unboxing – episode 131 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:33

Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower Unboxing – ep 131 I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Warhammer Quest Silver Tower game.  In this episode I unbox the game, mic in hand, and have a first look and play through of the rules. I talk about the contents of the box as I open it up and also discuss the general game play as I go through the game mechanics. I took some photos of the game and I have also started painting a few of the models.  Any suggestions on basing would be great. First impressions of the game are very good!  The quality of the components are excellent, as you would expect, and the miniatures are some of the best so far for Age of Sigmar. I predict that Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower will be a huge release for games workshop and be a staple of the range for years to come. Snake Eyes This week I released a Snake Eyes episodes of the audio for the Warhammer Weekly You Tube show I was a guest on. You can get this snake Eyes episode by signing up HERE.
