At the start of the show we mention that Bad Dice has now surpassed Podhammer as the longest running Warhammer Podcast (At least in terms of episode numbers, and not counting the Daily Show) Podhammer started back in August 2007 and their last episode was released in October 2011 releasing 95 episodes during that time. Fortnight In Fantasy In episode 95, Gareth and Mark said they were heading off to Stockport to take part in a tournament with a new style of comp system in place.  In this episode they report back on how it went, and have an in depth look at the workings of the Swedish Comp system.  Gareth also wrote a list to suit the system and talks about how he found it. In other hobby related activities Gareth has been trying out Magic The Gathering for the first time. 2012 Hobby Review We go round the table and give our Best XXXX of the year.  Lots of hobby related topics but also some random additions to the list, and some great moments when Gareth grossly misinterprets the meaning of my Bullet Points!  BDP 95 – The Lore Of Heavens Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:53:35

Episode 95 – The Lore of Heavens Review In episode 95 we talk about our fortnight’s in fantasy and have a review of the lore of heavens and of course Gareth’s Query Corner is full of questions that have us scratching our heads! Fortnight in Fantasy Ben – I have been painting the crew for my Forge World Magma Cannon. I’ve done the red armour, the skin and then started on the bronze armour.  I’ve also been doing the odd bit on my infernal guard, the skin on the chap ion and edge highlighting on the weapons.  I’ve been meaning to get to GW to pick up some edge paints and give them a go but not had time.   I’ve been over to Mantic Games this week to do the podcast  and I picked up a Dreadball Team, The Trontek 29ers.  I had hoped to leaarn to play and enter the tournament at Adepticon but I have a horrible feeling that it clashes with the warhammer team event.  I’ve built the team and will get them painted over christmas. As for other stuff, I have been reading (listening to) Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.  It reminds my of Malifaux, its set in (sort of) Modern London but has an parallel world know as London below which is still operating in world akin to a Victorian London that is mixed with modern times.  It has magic and mythology real Angels (refered to as It, not Him or Her) and some great references (Blackfriars, The Place or The People?). Get it on Audible   Today I’ve been to rushden so Mark has a trip down memory lane and talks about the gameing stores he visited as a kid. Mark – Mark has been playing with the Swedish Comp against Rob Hallam’s Skaven. He has also picked up yet another army. Skaven this time!  So he has been putting them together and started painting the Stormvermin Gareth – Gareth had been wheeling and dealing to get some painting tuition and is going over to Gollum Painting for some lessons and to make a start on his Vampire Counts.   Lore Of Heavens Review We have our final review of the lores of magic, The Lore of Heavens.   In this review we take an in-depth look into the Lore of Heavens and give our thoughts on; * The Lore Attribute * Each of the spells, including tips and tricks on how to use them * Other lores of magic that are good support for the Lore of heavens * Which other Lores the Lore of Heavens would be good at supporting * Which armies the can get the most from this lore * Which armies this lore is a good and bad match-up against. Gareths Query Corner Gareth gets a lovely letter from Mike Ralph to ask about shooting at Tomb Kings chariot units including characters which are actually far more confusing that I realised!  Chris Marker asks about Thunderstomps and Mournfang Cavalry.  Gareth Parfits wants to know if you can regrow a dead skink from a mixed skink and kroxior unit if there are now not skinks left.  We get asked about the Order of Terror Tests and Skirmishers contracting.  This could impact the range for a general or BSB’s leadership for said Terror test.  Harry asks why Mark answer’s all the questions and we give a little peek behind the curtain of the Bad Dice recording routine. Close Gareth and Mark add some comments on the Daily Episode I did this week about Annoying Gaming Habits. Over the last week we I have uploaded a couple of Snake Eyes episodes, Dan Thomas talks about how to beat Empire.  Its one of the best Snake Eyes episode so far!  Check it out in the Snake Eyes section Sponsors We have an episode sponsor – Erik Svendsen

BDP 94 – The Lore of Metal Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:06:54

Episode 94 – The Lore of Metal Review In episode 94 Gareth, Mark and Ben have a live studio audience (of 1!) as we chat about the Beasthammer Tournament, handling bad Sportsmanship as a community, the Black Library Weekender and we review the Lore of Metal. Fortnight in Fantasy. In the last fortnight since episode 93 Gareth grabbed a game vs Jak Spedding during a impromptu gaming session at Warhammer World and learned about the ‘Closing the Door’ rules, Mark has been using his Tomb Kings again and played against Ed with his new Empire Army.  We talk about how the Tomb Kings struggle against aggressive lists.  We also talk about buildings having a negative impact on Marks game. Mark and Gareth went to the Beasthammer tournament down in Portsmouth.  They both chat about the highlights from their games and have a rundown of the event overall.  In summary they thought it was a good event with a few niggles and will certainly go back next year. You can find the full results on The Warhammer Forum. In the aftermath of the event there has been a lot of talk about sportsmanship and how to handle it as a community so we give our take on that. Ben went to the Black Library Weekender with Marcus.  We caught a buch of Horus Heresy seminars.  There are some recordings form these seminars in the snake eyes members area.  Check out the Horus Heresy blog by Marcus – baddice.co.uk/heresy Mark has been plugging away on the Orcs and Goblins and has finished a unit of Squigs and Handlers. The Lore of Metal Review Gareth reads the Lore of Metal spells and the 3 of us give our thoughts on their use in the game. We talk about; * Why the lore of metal can be the best and worst lore in of magic in the game * Different roles that the lore of metal can fill * How you can use the lore of metal even against armies with no armour. * How to get the best from the lore of metal by combining it with other Lore ‘s of Magic. * What lore of magic is good for supporting the lore of metal * What other magic the lore of metal is good at supporting Gareth’s Query Corner In this instalment of Gareth’s Query Corner Brad asks about Empire detachments and wants to know if cheaper is better?  Barry asks if Ironblasters can stand and shoot, Riely O’Conner is having problems with Terrorghiests and wants to know how to beat them with Warriors of Chaos, Johnny from Pointhammered asks if Gareth suffers stupidity from nearby Hotties!  We take a question comparing Warhammer to Computer Games.  Ben Moore wants our thoughts on a Mounted Empire army.  We cover anti-chaff tactics.  Brandon asks a question about which army books should get a facelift. And lots more! Feedback If you have anything to say about this episode feel free to let me know by leaving a comment below or sending an email to bencurry@baddice.co.uk You can follow us on Twitter on @baddice_podcast, @purplehuskey and @markthebeastman

BDP Episode 93 – The Empire Army Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The Empire Army Review. In this episode we have an in depth review of The Empire army.  From Core to Characters we talk about all the options and give our opinions on what works and what doesn’t.  We delve in to the tricks and tactics that can be put to use with the Empire and there are some real gems of wisdom that cone from this discussion. We also talk about this months new releases, what we have been doing in our fortnight’s in fantasy and Gareth’s Query Corner. News We talk about the Skullcrushers, Warshrine, Hellstriders and the rest of the Warriors of Chaos new releases.  Gareth comments that the separate parts of the army looks like completely different armies. Fortnight In Fantasy Mansfield Maul is the first topic this week.  Mark played at the event and Gareth joined in as a spare player. We talk about the comp with a slant on the special characters allowed.  We also discuss the merits of having a Dirty Dozen and Fluffy Dozen.  Andrew Smith and Wesley Vickers Gareth joined in the saturday night revelry and found himself getting roped into being a stand in for a drop out.  He played against Julie Stevens Dark Elves and managed a small victory and then faced Matt Hobday on the bottom table. Gareth talks about his Vampire Counts project and is amazed by the Vampires stat lines!  He has started writing his army list and is quite impressed by the banshee and their Ghostly Howl. The Empire Characters. Starting with Lord choices we talk about the fact that almost all armies use a Lv4 and if its needed in an Empire list.  The problem with the Empire is that they are just men and the magic is needed to improve them.  Light is favourite with Mark and Gareth but Life is solid too.  We felt that the General of the Empire was lacking when compared to the Arch Lector and Grand Master.  Mark prefers the Arch Lector and likes the idea of the War Alter but Gareth Wasn’t a fan. Heroes Battle Wizards are always good and Light is nice to complement a Light Lv4 but he is mainly there to carry a dispel scroll.  The Captains are always a staple of the Empire army but he is often seen as the Battle Standard Bearer or on a Pegasus.  He is great for adding a but if durability to a unit as he can get a 1+ armour save easily.  The Pegasus rider is very cheap for what he brings so Ben thinks taking a bunch of them would be a good idea and even suggests an 8 fliers list. Warrior Priests are often used to pass hatred around the army and this is why you see them more often than the captains.  The recent FAQ to stop him passing that to the Demigryphs could change things. Masters Engineers are essential according to Gareth, especially if you are bringing volleyball Guns.  Mark has the opinion that the Empire are reliant on cannons and its the engineers that help them be more reliable. Witch Hunters are amazing models but they are not seen often enough in the game.  For 50 points they just don’t bring enough to the battlefield.  they do have a few things they are good for like passing magic resistance on to a unit without needing to take up magic item allowances. Core. We discuss the core choices and how the Regimental and Detachment rules work. There are a few nice tricks that you can use with these rules and we pass them on.  When comparing the different State Troop types we think that the Halbidieers are the best option due to their increased strength.  Mark likes the Swordsmen due to the WS4 and Parry but still thinks the Halberds is the way to go. When is comes to shooting troops the 30″ range of the crossbows seem to be the best option but the Handgun...

Episode 92 – The Lore of Death Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The Lore of Death Review. In this episode we get together to review the Lore of Death and also talk about some recent events we have attended. Fortnight in Fantasy Mark has been painting Skeleton Warriors for his tomb kings army using the Vampire Counts Skeletons with the Tomb King warrior shields.  Ben has not done any hobby this fortnight and should be duly chastised!  Gareth has been given a Mortis Engine by Super Hobbyist Steve Wren.  Huge thanks to Steve for that one. In gaming we all attended the Brothers In Arms Team event where Gareth got his taste of top table gaming as we faced all 3 of the final top 3 teams.  Mark and Gareth talk about their first taste of a team event and how it was different to a normal single tournament. Open War Army Swap Mark also played in a 1 day tournament where 8 from the 24 players decided to do a random army swap.  Mark used this High Elves army: Archmage Metal Mage Light Bsb 30 spears 10 archers 16 archers 23 lions 6 Swordsmasters 5 Swordsmasters 5 Swordsmasters 5 dragon princes 3 eagles 1 repeater boltthrower The list was widely renowned as being a soft one but Mark managed to come in 2nd place. The Lore of Death Review The Lore of Death is one of the lores in the game that really have a huge impact on games in terms of overall strategy, tactics and list building.  We run down the Lore Attribute and each of the spells giving in-depth details of how they work and what are their best applications.  As with our other reviews we cover how to get the best from the Lore of Death by using it in combination with other lores and units in your army. Gareth’s Query Corner Gareth has had more letters from the postman!  Chris Taylor’s wife, Helen, asks if the show is appropriate for her 3 week old baby and what army should she buy for her daughter.  Mike from Alberta, Canada also sent a letter and wants to know if big beards are creepy!  We get asked about Giants, Vampires vs Hydras, FAQ queries about Lore of Beasts.  We have a load of questions from  Facebook, the first one is talking a out comping big spells effecting the meta game, James (Nigella) Asks about Empire Detachments and scoring points, Grant asks how to get none nerd friends into Warhammer.  Over on twitter We get asked about different order of shooting and what scenarios force scouts to deploy as normal.  Episode 90 – Lore of Life Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Lore of Life Review In this episode the 3 of us get together to chat about the Lore Of Life.  Gareth has been playing with this lore recently and in this episode it really comes across how much he is learning about the game. Episode sponsor – Tom Mawdsley Bjorn Supremecy, What is The Björn Supremacy?: The BJörn Supremacy is something i’ve wanted to run all year, it’s an opportunity to test a comp pack used a lot on the Swedish tournament scene to see how well it does in the UK, it’s something never been used in the UK before to my knowledge. Please see the two links below for the comp and tournament packs for examples of army selection.Army lists need to be submitted to the address in the event pack no later than midnight on Monday 5th November, however if you want me to check over your list before that for the comp score just send it over whenever and i’ll do it as quickly as possible!Comp Pack The event will feature 6 games of Warhammer over 2 days, all played using the Battleline scenario from the rulebook. The Swedish FAQ pack will also be in force for this event, as the two were designed to go hand in hand with one another, please have a look at this and bear it in mind when writing your army lists, i will have some printed copies for use during the weekend also! We will be using the “semi-open” lists format from the below pack, which is essentially the UK closed lists that most events run anyway. Swedish FAQ Pack Where is the event held?: The Event will be held at the North-West Gaming Centre, in Stockport. The full address can be found in the event pack linked below. The Northwest Gaming Centre if a purpose built gaming centre complete with bar, hot snacks and space for over 100 gamers, it also boasts the Marauder Games store. Players do not need to bring terrain, all terrain will be provided by the NWGC Fortnight in Fantasy Gaming Mark and Gareth go to Beer Hammer Doubles tournament run by Mark Borland at the Milton Keynes Wargames Club.  This event had a beer festival in the same building!  They guys went quite well and took home 3rd place.  Mark and Ben got a game with their Warlords GT lists.  Dragon + Hyrda Dark Elves vs Empire with 12 Demigryphs a Tank and 2 cannons!  It didn’t go well for the Dark Elves. Mark and Gareth got a game too, Gareth was trialing Empire with Lore of Life for the first time and really liked it, Marks still testing out his Orc and Goblin options.  We have a great chat about their list building theories. Modeling Mark has been painting his Squigs using the Games Workshop Red paints.  Gareth is now a painting consultent, aparrently.  Ben has been getting his Chaos Dwarfs ready for the TWF Club 200.  We want listeners to write a letter to Gareth to get him to paint a model. Other – Non Gaming We have been watching a bunch of movies and TV shows.  We are all big fans of the Great British Bake Off so have been watching that, and also the New Season of Dr Who. Lore of life We take a loook at the lore of life and follow our review format of a run down of the spells and their uses in give situations followed up by a discussion about how to get the best from the lore by supporting it with other magic and also where Life is best used as support. Gareths Query Corner Alan Patterson on Facebook asks about buffing ballistic Skill shooting.  Jim1284 on Twitter asks about the Anvil of Doom and if its needed in all lists. Why don’t you See many Scraplauncers? Jim on Facebook asks can Empire work without Tanks and Cannons.
