Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Perugia, dream of chocolate lovers Perugia is the capital of the region Umbria, a region located in central Italy. Umbria is also known as the ‘”Green Heart of Italy” for it’s wonderful woods and forests. This little jewel is well known for its State University and for the University for Foreigners. Young people from all over the world come every year to learn Italian and to take history, literature and art courses. But perhaps Perugia has become famous in Italy and internationally thanks to those who have a sweet tooth. The company Perugina, which produces chocolate and the very famous “Bacio”, is based here. This delicious chocolate, made of dark chocolate and hazelnuts, contains, inside its wrapping, random love phrases by famous writers. The “Bacio” Perugina was created over 75 years ago and in my opinion it is a product that is a mix between myth and history. The Baci are given as gifts in blue boxes, decorated with little silver stars, that are created specifically for certain holidays, for example Mothers Day and Valentines Day. Aside from Perugina, every October for about a week the European chocolate festival, Eurochocolate, is held in Perugia. The event promotes both small and large companies in Italy and Europe. Many producers, industrial and hand-made, come to the event to sell their products on the streets and in the city squares. During the festival there are numerous events, shows and tastings in the historic center. One of the most special events is the Chocolate Sculpture performance. Gigantic sculptures are created by skilled artists, and are exhibited for the duration of the festival. The chocolate festival is an event that chocolate lovers like me can’t miss! --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Turin, the Magic City Turin used to be known as a grey and industrial city and the city of FIAT, the largest Italian car company, producing famous cars such as the legendary 500. With the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, millions of visitors from around the world have rediscovered the city. The old image of Turin has been replaced by that of an international city, always on the move and rich in cultural events such as the renowned Turin Film Festival, the Food Fair, and the Torino Comics Fair. Turin was the capital of Italy from 1861 to 1865. Walking the streets of the city, you can still breathe an atmosphere of old times and find spots in its center that resemble nearby France. Indeed, it is no coincidence that Turin is often referred to as "Little Paris." The Po (the longest river of the Italian peninsula) and the Dora (one of its major tributaries), two of the most important Italian rivers, cross Turin. On the banks of the river Po, in the city's center, lies Valentino Park. In the summer, it becomes the most popular meeting spot for young people, who play sports or relax under the shady pine trees. Turin is also considered the center of magic. It is in fact the point where the two triangles of white and black magic converge. Sorcerers and fortunetellers appear not only on the street corners of the city but also in many television programs on local networks. Turin is a city that fascinates, and if you visit it once, you cannot help coming back. --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101!
