Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Etna Etna has a thousand faces - the volcano, the natural beauty, the forests, the fauna, the flora, the myths and much more. The volcano is very active and lies on the eastern part of the island of Sicily, between the cities of Catania and Messina. Etna is the highest and the most active volcano in Europe. Its location above the gulf of Catania and its closeness to the sea make it even more fascinating. Every year it attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. The common image of a volcano brings to mind hostile environments without vegetation. But these conditions are found only above 2000 meters. In the intermediate zones of the volcano we find a florid environment rich with vegetation. Therefore on Etna it is possible to do various types of skiing and trail hiking. It is truly an emotion to breathe the pure mountain air and observe the magic of a lunar landscape, all this a few kilometers from the Ionian sea. When I can, I head to Sicily for a week-end of skiing. The snow and the panorama are an amazing combination. There are many myths and legends that surround Etna. Its secret and its power have inspired men to create explanations for the volcanic events that at the time were considered divine events. In fact, the ancient Greeks believed that it was home to the god of fire, Vulcan, and the monster Cyclops. Furthermore the volcano has been cited by many Greek and Roman poets like Homer, Virgil and Ovid. Trust me, its mystery is still alive today! --------------------------- Learn Italian with ItalianPod101!  Advanced Audio Blog #23 - Giovanni Allevi | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:53

Learn Italian with ItalianPod101! Don't forget to stop by ItalianPod101.com for more great Italian Language Learning Resources! ----Informal English---- Giovanni Allevi Tall, skinny and curly-haired: this unassuming and gangling boy is considered by the international critics as the “Italian genius of the piano”, or the “Mozart of 2000”. In spite of his immense success however, Giovanni Allevi, the thirty-six-year-old pianist and composer from Ascoli Piceno, remains a very shy boy, who through his music, is able to send his audience into raptures. Success however was not easy for this young talent to achieve: years of study, commitment and, above all, a big passion, were necessary in order to elevate him from the concerts for friends and relatives in the province of the Marches to the stages of the biggest international concert halls. Giovanni Allevi has in fact studied piano at the Perugia conservatoire and composition at the Milan conservatoire. When he completed his education at the conservatoire he devoted himself to the study of music therapy with Mr. Corradini and at the same time he took degree in philosophy with a dissertation about “the vacuum in contemporary physics”. Giovanni Allevi is a multi-faceted and eclectic genius able to fuse in his compositions the classic European tradition as well as the new tendencies of contemporary classic music, he’s not so disdainful of pop or rock sounds either. Beyond the virtuosity Allevi has, above all, a very sensitive nature, able to give infinite emotions to his audience through the keyboard. So, for instance, his last album, “Joy”, received this title when one day, having just returned from a tour in China, the young artist was walking along Milan’s streets and, feeling overwhelmed by the town’s beauty in its eve [...]
