 RiaW #409: Country Strong (2010) - SPONSTEMBER | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:26:59

We're strong. Sure, we're not rap strong or pop punk strong, but we're strong. But then this movie shook us to our very core. Nah, that's not really true. But if Country Strong means putting up with a sloppy plot, lackluster acting, and some of the worst fake guitar playing in movie history, than we are weak. Fortunately we assembled a panel with plenty of musical experience to tackle this dissonant movie, including music industry veterans.

 RiaW #408: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - SPONSTEMBER | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:28:15

Read it and Weep is a good podcast about books, movies, and TV hosted by Alex Falcone. Each week, we discuss something from pop culture with an emphasis on blockbusters, failures, and nostalgia.

 RiaW #407 - Surf's Up 2: WaveMania SPONSTEMBER | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:20:37

The moderately successful Surf's Up, part of the wave of CGI penguin movies, didn't earn a full sequel. But it did well enough to ern a straight-to-video sequel without replacements for the major voice talent and with a new group of... wrestlers? Yep, WWE superstars John Cena, Undertaker, Triple H, and Paige got animated up as a positive crew of surfing penguins as well. It's weird. And it's not a good movie, but can returning guest Steven Wilber's excitement about it win us over? We'll see when we HANG 5.

 RiaW #406: Exit to Eden (1994) SPONSTEMBER | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:10:54

For the first time in a year we opened up sponsorships so that you, the loyal listener, could pick what we have to consume and boy you picked some interesting ones. Starting with Paul from New Jersey's pick of Exit to Eden. It's the film adaptation of the Anne Rice BDSM novel except in the movie, they added a buddy cop story around the BDSM novel for no apparent reason. But it came out in 1994 (the year of movies) and that makes us like it. Actually, it's weirdness made us like it to. And the butts.

RiaW #405 - Yuri on Ice WET MONTH | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:41

Read it and Weep is a good podcast about books, movies, and TV hosted by Alex Falcone. Each week, we discuss something from pop culture with an emphasis on blockbusters, failures, and nostalgia.

RiaW #404: The Hunt for Red October (1990) WET MONTH | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:24:22

It's Red October season and every vessel in the Russian navy has a tag. That's because capitalism is the best and like a person with a full sandwich punch card, the United States is about to get a free sub. The Hunt for Red October is a really good submarine movie with an incredible cast. And we two people with parents who worked on submarines here to talk about it. It's a rare fully positive episode of the show. GET WET STAY WET, unless you're in very deep water and then stay inside.

RiaW #403: The Blue Lagoon (1980) WET MONTH | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:20:47

Read it and Weep is a good podcast about books, movies, and TV hosted by Alex Falcone. Each week, we discuss something from pop culture with an emphasis on blockbusters, failures, and nostalgia.

RiaW #402: Pirates of the Caribbean 5 WET MONTH | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:29

Captain Jack Sparrow is back on the high seas with more elaborate set pieces, sexual innuendo, and a drinking problem that is getting less charming and more seriously worrisome. In Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Deadmen Tell No Tales, a zombie franchise stumbles through a convoluted story about pirate ghosts and Greek gods. It's not great, but it's also still kinda fun and definitely better than the last two, so set your expectations accordingly and you may be entertained.

 RiaW #401: Splash (1984) WET MONTH | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:21:26

It's time to get wet and stay wet once again, Meat Suits! Wet Month is back and we're putting on our monoflippers to kick it off in style with the 80s mermaid classic Splash.

RiaW #400: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer REVISIT | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:34:04

Holy dinosaurs, you guys. We somehow have put out 400 episodes of this show. Even if you don’t think the content is good, we’re impressive by volume. For this momentous occasion, we got the original team back together and capped off Revisit Month by re-reading the book that started it all, Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. Have our opinions changed? Have we gotten softer? Were we… wrong? FIND OUT.

 RiaW #397: The Undefeated (2011) REVISIT | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:30

Back in 2012 we reviewed a weird fan-fic documentary about the then-scariest reality TV star / politician Sarah Palin. It was created by then-unknown evil mastermind Steve Bannon. Oh how much has changed. To kickoff Revisit Month, and our 8-year anniversary month, we're going back to The Undefeated to see if (a) Sarah Palin remained undefeated and (b) if your opinions about her have changed since then.In short, they have, though not necessarily for the better. And our opinion of this unbelievably bad film-making by Bannon hasn't changed at all. Oh man it's bad.

 RiaW #396: Bubble Guppies review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:52

Periodically I like to check in and see what Ezra's son Caleb is watching. He's my real barometer of the 5-and-order crowd. But this time I wanted to get a second opinion, so I asked my friend Tyler Boeh what HIS son was watching, and low-and-behold both little ones are into Bubble Guppies, which means it has to be good. And it kinda is! I'm sure some parents are sick of it, but as a non-parent just watching a few, I was surprised at how much I liked it. The songs are too long and overly produced, but they're also really catchy and the educational value is modest but real.
