Velanche Presents Urban Landscapes

It's been a very long dry spell, but here it is, the first new dance mix edition of Urban Landscapes in ages. I've been itching to do this one for awhile, but life, especially moving, got in the way. Now that I'm settled, time to unload some winning feats of production in the dance mix style I like to do for ya. I hope you enjoy the fresh selection as much as I enjoyed mixing the goods up; I think the mix came out fine in the end, but that's of course for you to judge. It is really, really, really good to be back with you with a brand new show. It's been...weeks?! Well truth be told, you will have to wait weeks in between, albeit just every two. I will have at least two shows a month instead of four (okay, usually three, but supposed to be four). I have the same great batch of new music that you come to expect from a show featuring all good things jazzy and soulful. It's funk, it's world, it's jazz, it's soul, it's dance. It's all wrapped together into one bundle of tune after tune after tune that I've been doing for many years. And really, it don't stop. This new show was recorded last Monday, and I really want to get it out. But a small price for that is that is devoid of voiceovers. Future shows will have them, but a lot is going on and I didn't want to delay any further. But come soon, there will be more Urban Landscapes on blast. Welcome to 2015, and with it, the return of Urban Landscapes. As those of you who have been fans of the show may know, I've ended the show back in December 2011. I was looking at doing other things after taking this on for almost 15 years. But once you're known for something, sometimes that identity just stays in people's minds. And so it was that enough folks have asked me time and time again over the years that they'd like to have the show back. I have since done Playtime, which was what I considered a close cousin to the show, which I have originally intended to be podcast only. But it wasn't long before I returned to radio, and after another few years on-air, being asked about Urban Landscapes warranted a second look. So here I am, here you are, and we're doing it again. As I am also doing a club mix show, I am taking baby steps to ease back in, with the show running for an hour this quarter. Time will tell where the show will go, but if the music presented this week is any indication, then I think we will all be just fine. I won't belabor you any further, except to say that it's good to get love from folks that missed the show, and it's really good to be back. Well at last, the project I've been meaning to sort out. As you may know, I had a previous radio show called Urban Landscapes, which aired from January 1998 through December 2011. Every now and then, I've been asked if I would upload older shows on the Playtime site, as the older shows have gone back as far as June 2006. But it turns out that one June 2006 show is not currently on the site. So that's one that I'll start off with, a two-hour broadcast with the kind of music that's as good a template as any on the types of music aired back then. And there's even a guestmix too from one David Borsu, a talented producer with some nice output of tunes back then. Turns out that the playlist (http://www.velanche.com/2006/06/11/playlists/urban-landscapes-radioshow-919-1-of-2) for the show was already on the current site, but not the audio for it. You can check the playlist, but I'll also add the show here just in case. More will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

Nearly 14 years to the week that my humble radio show has launched, it's now time to put the show to bed. After giving a bit of thought of how I would approach the end, the sane thing to do was to do what I usually do yearly. In this case, the show's focus is on the albums. At the least, I was sure that people wanted to know what moved me, and what I recommend, at year's end. So that's how I decided to play it, and what you'll listen to is the result of that. I don't have much to type at the moment, as I'm going to do a separate blog post soon. Look for my post on the albums, singles and EP's that I recommend from 2011 around year's end, and a separate entry on the future plans. Hint: more music on the way in 2012, and you can bet that I'll be around to bring you the goods. I'm going to leave it here, because much of what I say about the end is within the show, except that I'm extremely grateful for your support through the years. it's been a privilege to share fresh, new music with you all these years. Though I'm making some changes, I hope that you'll be part of the next chapters of my musical life. You've given me a great deal, and I hope I've given back a great deal to you in return.
