  Create tooltips in WordPress | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:02:39

A tooltip is a creation of HTML + CSS (markup languages) that allows us make things like when you leave the mouse over an element, normally text, explanatory text, a photo or a video comes out.Luckily there are plugins for wordpress that allow us to create a tooltip, in this article I will talk about 2 plugins, surely the 2 most important today.Contents1 Plugin WordPress Tooltips2 Plugin Simple Tooltip3 Summary3.1 RelatedPlugin WordPress TooltipsThis is the name of the plugin itself: “WordPress tooltips”, this plugin will allow us to create some very interesting tooltips, here is an example capture of a tooltip created by this plugin:As you can see when you leave the mouse over the text “tooltip de prueba” the text that appears in green appears to me, we can change that text for what we want, then I will explain it.And here we can see a video tooltip that appears when you leave the mouse over “PS4”.Basically the only thing we have to do once the plugin is installed is go to the options on the left side of our wordpress panel and there we will find the plugin and the option “create a new tooltip”, then a panel will appear very similar to when We create an article where the title will be the tooltip and what we write in text will be what is shown.Example: we put the title “PS4” and we put the text “Clarification: the PS4 is a video console” and we will have our tooltip created. We can even create a tooltip with videos, as in the previous screenshot for which I have put “PS4” as the title in the tooltip and the video in the text, in this way every time the text “PS4” appears on our website and is left the mouse over said text will appear the video.Very important: now wordpress allows us to insert videos just by copying the URL of the video but to create a tooltip with this plugin it will be necessary to copy the HTML provided by youtube, vimeo, etc. in the share> Insert options.WordPress TooltipsAbout this plugin: in the previous captures you see that the tooltip packs appear in green, but you can also choose white and dark, to choose some more color we would have to buy the Pro version, but I consider that the free version it is very complete and sufficient for most.Furthermore, this plugin will create a glossary with the tooltips that we can see in “ourweb.com/glossary”, an option that can be deactivated in the plugin panel.We will also find options such as the tooltips only being shown the first time in each article, that is, if we activate this option when in our article we use for example a keyword that we have previously saved as “PS4” because the video that I have put will be shown only the first time “PS4” appears in the article and not every time.Among other options.It i...   The 6 Principles of WordPress Productivity | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:02:39

posted on October 19, 2018It’s important for you to know right up front that the6 Principles of WordPress Productivityare not entirely original.History of the 6 Principles of WordPress ProductivityBack in the 1980’s, John Keane, the founder and CEO of a large, multi-national IT consulting firm called Keane, Inc. (where I used to work), had a study done as to why projects almost always run over time and over budget and from that, he created the 6 Principles of Productivity Management. These principles were built into ALL the software development methodologies we followed because they worked. The book that everyone received on their first day was our Bible and we were all zealots.In truth, these principles are really just common sense methods for being productive when carrying out a task or set of tasks. The problem is, we often forget to apply them day-to-day and they can be equally effective for website development, a fund-raiser at church, or tiling your kitchen floor. It has been proven, many times over, that if you infuse these principles into your WordPress Project Management approach, you will indeed get better control over scope creep, thereby getting more projects done on time and within budget.Keane’s 6 Principles were written specifically for Keane consultants working primarily in software development in the 80’s and 90’s. Yet, they became so ingrained for me that I now apply these principles to any personal or professional project I might be working on, whether IT-related or not. So, as I started applying the principles to WordPress projects creating websites for others, I realized the principles need a little updating to be fully useful in that context. To that end,here is my version of The 6 Principles of WordPress Productivity.The 6 Principles and Their PurposeAlthough these principles play the largest part during the project definition activities, they also run like a thread through the rest of the project life cycle. They are evergreen and can be applied without regard to specific development or management methodologies.Define the Job in Detail with a Content First Approach – if you get everything right regarding the client’s business requirements and get all the “pieces and parts” assembled on the front end, there will be fewer scope creep and project management problems on the back end.Get the Right Resources Involved (People, Plugins, and Blocks) – having a standard list of plugins and blocks that is tailored for each project gives you a consistent process for identifying additional requirements. If you can’t get the “right” resources involved, consider trying to get the resources “rightly involved.”Estimate the Time and Costs Ofte...   How To Use & Change Temporary URL with Wordpress | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:03:06

Summary Need hosting for a new or existing WordPress site? Sign up at Bluehost.com. When transferring your WordPress installation to Bluehost you may need to use the temporary URL, this URL will allow you to access your site before the Name Servers have propagated to ours. A few of the symptoms or issues you may be running into are: My Domain name isn't resolving to my new account yet. I don't get any images or themes to show up, just the text. I can't log into my Administrator Panel, because logging in wants to take me to a url with my domain name in it. How can I change my settings to allow me to view my WordPress Blog before my domain name resolves? Changing to a temp URL Changing from a temp URL Changing to the temp URL There are a few cases where you might need to go in and change a URL in the WordPress database. My domain name isn't resolving to my new account yet, so I have to visit my WordPress install with a URL like hhttp://box###.temp.domains/~username/. I don't get any images or themes to show up, just the text. I also can't log into my Administrator Panel, because logging in wants to take me to a URL with my domain name in it. How can I change my settings to allow me to view my WordPress blog before my domain name resolves? The URL appears like http://www.domain.com/addondomain/ and there are no redirects in the .htaccess If WordPress was installed to an addon domain, then the database URL will need to be changed to something like http://www.addondomain.com This requires a little MySQL trick. It's two simple edits in the database. First, make sure that your WordPress installation is complete, and you know what the name of the database is. If Fantastico installed WordPress for you, it's likely the name of the database is something like: username_wrd1 If you don't know the database name, you can use the File Manager to look inside the wp-config.php file to find out its name. Right click wp-config.php and select Code Edit. You can now see the username and database. Next, log into your cPanel. Look for the Databases section. Click on the phpMyAdmin icon. Once here, you need to select the database name on the left. (i.e. "_wrd1") This will display the names of the Tables to the right. Now there are icons to the right of the tables. The First one is called Browse. Click Browse. Next, the database entries are listed in columns and rows. You want to select the pencil icon (for Edit) on the left for the top row (option_name is "site url") Once you've clicked the pencil icon, you will see your domain name listed something like this: http://example.com/ You want to change that to som...   How to Customize Your WordPress Dashboard | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:02:39

The admin dashboard of your WordPress site is command central for all the tasks related to setting up and running your site. The default settings of your WordPress dashboard provide access to the tools and widgets you need for creating content, managing plugins, widgets, and more – but these default settings may not suit your workflow or the needs of your site. If that’s the case, you can customize your dashboard’s appearance, layout, and functions using dashboard setting options, installing admin theme and content management plugins, adding code to your theme’s functions.php file, or a combination of these methods to get the right dashboard setup for managing your WordPress site. Read on to learn about the different WordPress Dashboard customize settings available to you and your site. Why Should You Customize Your WordPress Dashboard?Every new WordPress installation comes with a generic login and dashboard setup designed to provide a staging area for setting up and running all aspects of the site. This default setup comes with a simple login screen that takes users to the wp-admin area of the install, which features a long left sidebar and a screen that displays preset WordPress dashboard widgets for notifications about things like recent activity on the site, WordPress news, a “Quick Draft” text editor, and an overview of the site’s content.This WordPress dashboard design layout can take up considerable screen room and doesn’t necessarily offer any relevant tools for managing your site’s specific functions. As a result, you may want to clear some space and add more useful tools, or you might simply want to change the appearance of the login and dashboard screens. Customizing the dashboard can also be useful if your site has multiple users, as in a membership site, social network, or a magazine with numerous contributors logging in to create a blog or post content. In that way, you can set up the relevant tools for each user role and streamline the process of logging in and creating content. WordPress makes it easy for any user to customize the look and functionality of the admin dashboard, even for site runners with no coding or web development experience at all.Customize Your WordPress Dashboard with Screen OptionsThe easiest and most direct way to customize a WordPress admin area is through an often overlooked option built into the dashboard itself. The Screen Options button is located in the upper right corner of the default dashboard screen, and when you click the button it opens a display of all the default elements on the screen, with boxes checked to display them. To clear the screen of the elements you don’t want, simply uncheck the relev...   Best WordPress Security Checklist [Ultimate Guide] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:02:43

If you want to secure your WordPress site, you will find a lot of advice online, some of which is good, and some outright damaging, albeit well-meaning.When it comes to WordPress security, you need to be able to trust your sources and find information that is not only credible, but also feasible and applicable. In 2020 alone, malware attacks grew by over 150% and the numbers don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Therefore, securing your WordPress site needs to be your number one priority.The best way to secure your WordPress site is to install a security plugin and let it handle the heavy lifting.   How to Make a Sticky Header in WordPress - WP Manage Ninja | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:02:34

In the last decade or so, there’s been an ever-growing emphasis put on website navigation. This has coincided with the widespread usage of smartphones that have limited navigation options compared to the traditional desktop interface. The difference in website design is more than evident if you look at a comparison between a site from 2011. and one that was made now.One of the main methods that were used in reconfiguring the site layouts was sticky elements. Appropriately named, these elements stick to the page on its borders when you’re moving around it, i.e., they keep their original position (think of freeze panes in Excel, and you’ll have a good idea how it works).Top, bottom, left, and rightSticky elements are usually reserved for menus, headers, and/or status bars; these bring great flexibility to the visitor because he can instantly switch from one page to the next without having to backtrack at all. Also, all of these are positioned on the top and bottom page borders to begin with, which works nicely with the whole premise. It would be extremely difficult to build a page around a sticky element that’s positioned in the center of a page.Rarely can they also be found on the left and right borders, with the same functions, just a different layout. In these cases, they’ll be hidden until you hover over them with your cursor or touch them on the screen.Space saversThe interesting thing about sticky elements is that they save you space on the page and on the site as a whole – they can actually be used to replace whole pages. This is because they leave the main body of the site intact and make the borders multifunctional tools that take on a lot of the page’s functions on themselves. Just think about your average site layout for a moment.The top is reserved for the menus that entail pages sorted through designated categories and a search bar. These are both hidden behind a bar while scrolling and expand when needed. If this was not the case, only the menu tree would take up the whole upper section of your page and wouldn’t “follow” when scrolling down, so your visitor would be required to constantly move up and down just to navigate through the pages.On the other hand, a sticky bottom element can replace an entire support page quite easily – just add the email and/or number along with a chat button, and you’re good to go. You’re providing your visitors with a constantly present way of contacting you. Once more, the practical application is fantastic – a customer is scrolling through your product pages, has a question, and can instantly find out what he/she needs by clicking the chat button.Creating sticky elementsWhen...   Creating Your Own Tables in WordPress Database | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:03:18

The data schema in WordPress is quite flexible, and after the appearance of arbitrary post types in the core of WordPress, almost any data can be placed in a table in some way wp_postsand work with it using standard tools. But in practice, this is not always optimal, and sometimes it becomes necessary to create your own table in the WordPress database. There are obvious downsides to this approach:No option to use WP_Query to access dataData in the custom table does not use object cachingYou have to build the user interface for working with data yourselfRoles, privileges, output patterns, and permalink formats also have to be taken care of.No option to use WordPress taxonomy to group dataThere is of course one plus that often justifies using custom tables in WordPress: we define the structure, data types, and indexes ourselves. And when working with a large amount of data, this can significantly affect the speed of the site.Contents1 dbDelta() function2 Table versions and dbDelta()3 Multisite4 Requests5 RelateddbDelta() functionThe built-in function dbDelta()allows you to create tables in the WordPress database, and make changes to their structure. But before creating a new table, you need to decide on its name and encoding.Also See:Zend Server Z-Ray for WordPress DevelopersThe name of the new table must have the same prefix used by the WordPress core (default wp_) and an additional prefix for our plugin or project, for example, wp_my_table_name. The prefix wp_can be obtained using the get_blog_prefix()global object method, and the encoding used can be determined using the and $wpdbproperties :charsetcollateglobal $wpdb;$table_name = $wpdb->get_blog_prefix() . 'my_products';$charset_collate = "DEFAULT CHARACTER SET {$wpdb->charset} COLLATE {$wpdb->collate}";Next, using the function, dbDelta()we can create a new table:require_once( ABSPATH . 'wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php' );$sql = "CREATE TABLE {$table_name} (id int(11) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,name varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',price int(11) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',PRIMARY KEY (id),KEY price (price)) {$charset_collate};";// Create table.dbDelta($sql);The function dbDelta()is different from a simple MySQL query to the WordPress database. It breaks the table structure into parts and compares it with the table that already exists. This allows dbDelta()you to make changes to the table structure without having to delete and re-create the table.Also See:Zend Server Z-Ray for WordPress DevelopersFor example, to add a new column to our table, we can modify our main query CREATE TABLElike this:$sql = "CREATE TABLE {$table_name} (id int(11) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,name varcha...   Export wordpress table to excel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:04:31

3 I have created PHP scripts before to export a database table to .xls format like this:$select = "SELECT * FROM tracking";$export = mysql_query ( $select ) or die ( "Sql error : " . mysql_error( ) );$fields = mysql_num_fields ( $export );$file = 'export';for ( $i = 0; $i < $fields; $i++ ){$header .= mysql_field_name( $export , $i ) . "\t";}while( $row = mysql_fetch_row( $export ) ){$line = '';foreach( $row as $value ){ if ( ( !isset( $value ) ) || ( $value == "" ) ) { $value = "\t"; } else { $value = str_replace( '"' , '""' , $value ); $value = '"' . $value . '"' . "\t"; } $line .= $value; } $data .= trim( $line ) . "\n"; } $data = str_replace( "\r" , "" , $data ); if ( $data == "" ) { $data = "\n(0) Records Found!\n"; }$filename = $file."_".date("M-d-Y");header("Content-type: application/octet-stream");header( "Content-disposition: filename=".$filename.".xls");header("Pragma: no-cache");header("Expires: 0");print "$header\n$data";What I'd like to know is how to "convert" this to wordpress format using the $wpdb class? I can get the initial query down to actually select the data from the table I want, but I get lost in some of the semantics of the wpdb class. I also wanted to know where I would put this code in wordpress, so if say a user clicks on a link, it would run this query and download the .xls file?Any help is greatly appreciated!
