Dr. Hal Wilson has served in the #2 ranked online master's degree in coaching as an Assistant Professor of Coaching Education at Georgia Southern University since 2014. He is a strong believer in service, Wilson serves on the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education, as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children in the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit, and as the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Bulloch Academy. He is passionate about the positive potential of sports and seeks to encourage and empower coaches and administrators to positively impact their players through holistic, athlete-centered coaching and their local communities through service and engagement. From 1999-2002, Wilson was a graduate assistant for the University of Tennessee men's basketball program, winning UT's first SEC Championship in 18 years, reaching back-to-back NCAA tournaments, and earning a national ranking as high as #4. Prior to that, while teaching high school and coaching football and basketball in western NC from 1997-1999, Wilson's boy's basketball team won the school's first sectional championship, set a school record for wins, and earned a #1 ranking in all classifications by The Charlotte Observer. Coach Welch enters his 4th year as the Head Coach of the Yuba WBB team. In his third year, Coach Welch delivered the first-ever Conference Championship in Yuba’s history. He was also instrumental in developing the first-ever Conference MVP and the only Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in the school’s history. Coach Welch has produced seven All-Conference players and the first California State Female Athlete of the Month (Jan. 2020). Coach Welch was named Conference Coach of the Year for the 2019/2020 season in leading Yuba to their Conference crown. Coach Welch grew up playing basketball in Upstate New York and it was that passion that led him to participate and coach basketball for the past twenty-five years.  After graduating college with an AAS degree and relocating to Oakland California, Coach Welch played one season at Cal State Hayward before joining the Alameda Pro-Am Basketball Tour. While playing on the Pro-Am Tour, Coach Welch had two unsuccessful attempts in trying out for the Golden State Warriors basketball team.  After those two attempts, his playing days concluded and he was hired by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff. While working at the Sheriff’s Department, Coach Welch became the Assistant Coach for the Head Royce Boys Basketball Team for two seasons. After transferring to the Pittsburg Police Department as a Police Officer, Coach Welch continued to coach with the Los Medanos College Men’s Basketball Team. God truly has ordered his steps and those steps led him to our conversation on the podcast. Tierra Terry has spent one year at Virginia Union University. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has not granted her the first year of play.  She comes to Virginian Union after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach for the women's basketball program at The College of William and Mary. The 2019-20 season for the Tribe was one for the history books posting the school record with 21 wins: 12 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), 11 wins on the road, and ranking its highest seed in the CAA Tournament (third). Prior to William & Mary, Terry was a recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina. She began her coaching career at her alma mater, Winston-Salem State University. A four-year member of the Winston-Salem State women’s basketball team, Terry earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology, while earning a minor in sociology in 2008. She went on to earn her master’s in psychology with a specialization in counseling from the University of West Florida in 2011. She is a member of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity Incorporated, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. In this episode, Terry speaks of her journey through her athletic career and share an amazing testimony! Brandon Chambers begins his second season as an assistant coach at Texas Southern University. They finished the season as SWAC Conference Champions and won their first game in the NCAA Tournament. Matched up with #1 Seed Michigan, they held their own in the 2nd round.  Chambers has also garnered several accolades from his peers in the coaching profession and other basketball influencers as he was named one of 50 Impactful Low Major Assistants by Silver Waves Media in 2020. He was recently named to The 2020 Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team, representing 30 of the most outstanding men’s college basketball coaches under the age of 30. Chambers graduated from VCU in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Coach Joni Taylor is the 2021 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year and two-time National Coach of the Year semifinalist -- boasts an impressive resume in her first six seasons leading the Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball program.  During the 2020-21 campaign, Taylor guided her team to a fourth-place finish in the SEC standings after being picked ninth in the conference's preseason poll. Her squad was led by four seniors, including SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Que Morrison, All-SEC Second Team selection Jenna Staiti, 2021 SEC All-Tournament Team selection Maya Caldwell and three-year starter Gabby Connally. She entered her current position as Georgia's head coach with 13 seasons of coaching experience at the Division I level, including seven within the Southeastern Conference. The Meridian, Miss., native joined the Georgia staff in 2011 and spent one season as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach. Prior to arriving in Athens, Taylor coached at LSU from 2010-11, at Alabama from 2008-10, at Louisiana Tech from 2005-08, and at Troy from 2002-05. Taylor also was a standout off the basketball court. She was recognized as one of the most influential African Americans on the Alabama campus in 2001, was named to the SEC's Community Service team for women's basketball in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and was awarded a post-graduate scholarship from the SEC for her community service record. She received her bachelor's degree in Education from Alabama in 2002. Taylor and her husband Darius have two daughters.
