For the third week in a row we're saying goodbye to a hip-hop great and THIS ONE HITS HOME. Shock G. actually grew up in Tampa, resides in Tampa, and has popped up at several of our events over the years. He was the catalyst behind Digital Underground, The Humpty Dance and the discovery of Tupac Shakur. Every interaction we had with him was genuine and he really showed us, and the Tampa Bay Music Community, authentic love. We lost him this past week and we felt it was right to run through some of our favorite tracks he was a part of for Episode 76. It's getting a bit ridiculous in the hip-hop world right now as we're seeing our legends and icons pass away. They say it comes in threes and the second great to pass away was Black Rob. We're still reeling from DMX and it seems like life just keeps hitting. We began Episode 73 with a Prayer from DMX that came from his recent Verzuz challenge. The news of his overdose was a cloud over Hip-Hop and we had to send some strength his way. We spent a good amount of the show talking about the Verzuz battle between Earth Wind & Fire and the Isley Brothers and how amazing it was. Episode 72 was an extension of our Donation Drive from the week before. Jasen from ImPowered Minds LLC called in to show support for the show and our very own DJ Spaceship had to put his words to the test. Ship said that he would do a pushup for every dollar donated to the show and we had 200 reasons for him to backtrack..but he did his thing! And we have the footage to prove it! We read some fan mail over the air and we also got a chance to speak with an upcoming artist out of Tampa Bay called G. We took it back to the beginning of our WMNF days and worked out of the legendary Kenny K studios for Episode 70 of Waves Of The Bay. It was a nostalgic moment for us because we used to man this studio Saturdays Nights with the Shutdown Crew for about 6 months before we got the opportunity for our own time slot. DJ Spaceship killed the mix and we had to revisit our opinions on Coming 2 America. We spent the majority of Episode 68 highlighting Black History Month and some of the songs that depict the beautiful struggle. From Common & John Legend, to Tobe Nwigwe, with a sprinkle of Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley we had fun putting our touch on the month of February. He had heard a compelling argument that Cee-Lo was ultimately the GOAT of Atlanta. Episode 65 was the leadup to the Super Bowl, which just so happened to be in our beloved Tampa Florida. With the hometown Bucs playing Tone's KC Chiefs we had to do it up big. Tone ran through a set of some KC music to get the Bay acquainted with his town.
