Become a great leader by talking learning to talk to people - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 832

Over the past week, I have been speaking in 3 workshops with leaders on personal innovation, change, and disruption.  What is coming and what to do about it.  Each group of leaders suffered from the same problem, lack of confidence, and insecurity about themselves. The crisis we are about to face is not a financial crisis, it's a crisis of leadership.  A crisis of personal innovation.  People have become so accustomed to making good salaries without having to risk anything and get rewarded for everything so much so that they are lost when they actually have to think a new thought.  It is actually impossible. The art of leadership is almost dead.  The art of managing people is thriving and killing leadership.  Who fault is this?  Yours!  What would have happened if your parents never corrected you as a child when you did something wrong, you would be the person many people are today, no heart for caring for people, no empathy for others and solely focused on your individualistic needs. During this podcast, I focus on your specific personal inadequacies that are stopping you from receiving love and creating all the toxic relationships and thoughts that define your life.  This podcast is raw and that's the way it should be.  Otherwise, I would fail at loving you enough to care. Enjoy, it's brutal and profound.  Students don't trust oil executives at the 2018 ONS conference - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 691

I just came back from the 2018 ON in Stavanger, Norway.  ONS is the 2nd largest Oil & Gas conference in the world with the CEOs and top executives from the Oil & Gas sector.  There were 68,174 people in attendance from over 98 countries at this conference! At this year's ONS conference, I held a keynote speech on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I moderated a panel with several CEOs from the technology industry.  The conference had a different vibe then tech conferences with a lot of older people attending.  This created a lower energy level.  You could slice the air with a knife when it came to the pressure companies had on to sell, sell, sell. The most interesting reflection from the conference came from the fireside chat prior to my speech on Tuesday.  The 400 students in attendance were not believing anything the oil executives were telling them.  I sat in the back of the large conference hall listening to the students laugh, shake heads, and just play with their mobiles as the executives told them to major in oil-related studies and forget everything else. Please listen to the podcast to learn about what happened and what the students think about the oil & gas sector.  This was a wake-up call for many executives but the problem for them is that they continue to not listen to the younger generation who have found them to be completely irrelevant!  Tribe: Disrupting the global insurance industry and it’s secrets | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3061

In this June 2018 episode of the Soul of Innovation podcast, I was fortunate to interview with the co-founder and CEO of Tribe insurance, Henrik Nygård Sjølie.  Henrik is one of those young CEOs whose vision and energy immediately tells you that Tribe is going to be a big deal in the near future and will redefine how the once boring industry once called insurance. The podcast begins a few minutes into the interview and we jump straight into why would a Norwegian startup takes on all the dominant multi-billion dollar insurance companies and what does it take to do that.  We talk about how are people being overcharged and what to do about it.  We talk about how to save money.  We talk about everything you need to know if you're thinking about doing a startup and taking on the big guys! We cover so many great topics and Henrik holds nothing back, including how he financed his vision and what are their plans in the future!  Henrik is awesome and I hope you enjoy our wonderful talk!  Cycling is a metaphor for how we succeed in life - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5589

The idea that cycling is a metaphor for how we succeed in life, came to me this afternoon while watching a group of cyclist. One cyclist was a grinder, working hard but not efficient. Another cyclist was young and energetic, just happy to be out cycling. Watch the video and see who you are and ask yourself why.  6 simple things sport parents must do - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 771

Sports parents are demanding and dedicated parents.  They have chosen to support their child by following them around from game-to-game, cheering, yelling, and clapping louder than anyone else.  Sports parents are great but at the 2018 Norwegian National Track and Field championship, almost no parents came.  I could not believe it. Do you parents realize the long term effect of you not being there in your child's moment of glory or failure or just giving it their all?  Do you?  Sure you do, look at yourself!!! Do you remember when your parents didn't come to your event when you were a child?  Was it a piano recital or class musical or some other event where you gave it your all and no one from your family was there to see you?   Yeah, you remember!  So why aren't you there for your child!?!  Young people, just do what you love and people will follow - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 611

Young people have many advantages and we, older people, struggle to understand the world that they are re-creating for us and possibly without us. Fear, nervousness, and insecurity are holding us back. Act young, be young in your heart and soul.  Young people just do what you love! In this podcast episode, I introduce stories of young people who are so financially successful while they are only in their mid-20s. I share what they did to achieve this level of financial success.  How you can do the same.  This is not about getting rich quick.  It's about understanding how things work today in this new world based on new rules set by people who have little life experience but yield their tremendous power of independence to reshape their (our) world. It is your time to be young again.  How we treat each other, especially your customers, like family, is mandatory - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 600

In one week, I had two customer service experiences that were polar opposites of one another. Truly, the secret sauce to succeeding in any job, with an idea, with life itself, is how we treat people.  Employees forget that when are in a store, they are now the customer.  That they want assistance and kindness when they need it.  That their time is valuable and that the employees must put up with their moods.  What happens that we don't realize that has always been both the employee and customer?  We're interesting, aren't we?!? In this podcast episode, I explain what great customer service is like and also what typical horrible customer service is like. There is no need to worry about a future with Artificial intelligence possibly taking your job if you have forgotten how to be nice to someone. It’s that simple and that important. It’s a bit of a rant but so important to listen to this podcast.  Soul of Innovation podcast - Soul of Innovation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1466

This is the first episode of the “Soul of Innovation" podcast.  I have started this podcast because so many people have asked me to share more of my thoughts more often and a podcast is a way to do so many people globally can hear the message. In the first few minutes, I introduce myself and explain why AI is going to be so disruptive to the current business models and what we define as “normal” by the end of 2018.   I deep dive into specific issues and try to stay away from general statements that don't give any answers.  I give answers. As much hype as AI has received, it has not been enough. It is that huge of a life changer for you and me.  I hope this podcast provides you with information, answers, insights, and reflections to learn from.  Let me know what you think and I hope to hear from you in the near future. Welcome to the "Soul of Innovation" podcast!
