Lee High School, Wayland Baptist University, and the United States Air Force ReservesMy major influence in my life was initially my dad; I didn't want to follow in his footsteps as he was a police officer and he divorced my mom at an early age. Afterward, it was/is my wife; she is my motivator to succeed, whether in life, college, the military, and the police departmentI chose to enter the military because I failed out of college and needed to get back on track with my life. I specifically chose the United States Air Force Reserves because it guaranteed a chance for me to do what I qualified for and more importantly, stay in San Antonio.While being married and raising two children, the biggest struggle I had to overcome was working a lot between the military and the police department.My faith continues to be challenged daily, but I continue to keep the faith. I still believe that we live in a society filled with great people who want to do the right thing. My advice to any up and coming youth who want to be leaders is to lead by example. SAPD Officer Cory SchulerI was born in Austin, Texas. I was raised in a Christian home with both parents and 1 older brother. My dad is a pastor who always stressed the importance of having a relationship with God, loving your family, and getting an education. It appeared at times these were the basic foundations that shaped our future goals in life. My dad holds a Doctorate in Theology and has always strived to make a difference in the lives of others starting with my brother and me. We were always his pupils. My mother started her career at a law enforcement agency and at some point was put in charge of purchasing uniforms for the officers. So I spent a great deal of time after school in the supply store. I believe that is where I first took an interest in being a police officer, a typical little boy growing up with aspirations of being a police officer. When I was in middle school my parents moved to Leander. My love for sports ultimately afforded me the opportunity through scholarships to play football on a collegiate level. While away in college, my cousin had gotten in trouble with the law and I saw how it impacted my family. Later, my big brother had gotten into some trouble with the law and was unable to spend time with family during holidays and family gatherings. I felt the impact that had on me and my parents. After graduating from college, I sought out law enforcement. I met with a cousin who talked to me about becoming a police officer. He talked about the brotherhood, comradery, as well as benefits. So I joined the San Antonio Police Department. Being a police officer takes hard work and commitment. It requires long hours of training; it takes a genuine care for the human race. You must have a heart for the people because people will show you the best of who they are and they will show you the worst of who they are. This career provides you the opportunity to make the world a better place, street by street, block by block. It provides great benefits to take care of yourself and your family. I am proud to wear this uniform. I am proud to stand up and be counted among the men and women that make a difference in the lives of the citizens of San Antonio. I also have a responsibility to my family with the common goal to return home every night. I reconnected with a college teammate who later became one of my best friends. Marci Henna is the descendant of two generations of Texas Rangers and grew up on the family’s 1800’s era Texas Hill Country ranch near Austin, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in English, enjoys foreign language and reading southern literature. As a child, she also lived with the Wakamba in Kenya, East Africa, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and in various Texas cities.For twenty years, she served on the executive committee of the Dell Children’s Medical Center Foundation, on the James Dick Foundation (for the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, Texas) and on the boards of other non-profits.  She is a recipient of the KVUE (Austin Television Station) “Five Who Care” Award, the Children’s Hospital Chairman’s Award, and others.She and her husband, Louis, have four beautiful children, two roly-poly dogs, and reside in Austin and Santa Fe.  They recently drove the Dalton Highway (Ice Trucker’s Road) in Alaska and look forward to their next great adventure!When We Last Spoke Movie Exclusive Two Night Showing -- October 27 & 29NASHVILLE, Tn.
