Daily Fantasy Baseball Plays for May 18 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3293

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast network and hosted by Tommy Stokke. On today's episode, we take a look at some of the biggest stories in fantasy sports with fantasy expert Wes Anderson (@Wander34). In a two-part interview, Wes provides insight to the latest trends and plays that fantasy players need to know.  In Part 1, Wes looks at the shift in strategy daily fantasy players have had to take early on this season before discussing the struggles of Paul Goldschmidt and what fantasy players, both daily and season long, should expect from him and the rest of the Arizona Diamondbacks offense moving forward.  He then explains players in a cold stretch he is targeting and why he's been fading the Pittsburgh Pirates offense.  We open up Part 2 by discussing who Wes is targeting for each position on Friday, anchored by Max Scherzer against the Los Angeles Dodgers. (15:55) After the lineup discussion, the two talk about non-fantasy stories including the Chicago Cubs concerns, the Atlanta Braves eventually losing their lead in the NL East, Robinson Cano's suspension and Mike Trout's marketing.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Sports betting and MLB bad beat stories | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2156

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast network and hosted by Tommy Stokke.  On today's episode, we look at the Arizona Diamondbacks and the importance of Paul Goldschmidt as his struggles continue in the midst of the team's six-game losing streak. To make matters worse, AJ Pollock could miss time with a thumb injury after injuring it diving for a ball in the ninth inning on Monday.  Then we bring in guest Alex Kolodziej to discuss the news of sports betting becoming legalized and how that could change things in the market. The two then talk bad beat stories in baseball and why Mark Trumbo owes Alex money. In addition to the sports betting talk, we look at the Chicago White Sox year and what lies ahead.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The local view of Mike Trout and the Angels | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2848

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. Today we welcome special guest Pat Zajac, the host of Locked on Angels. Pat joins the podcast to talk about the team's hot start or whether or not the Angels have padded their record on weaker competition. What's been the early takeaways of Shohei Ohtani and what problems could he cause for the rotation down the stretch if he's only pitching once a week? Pat also gives his thoughts on how Mike Scioscia has handled his versatile player.  The Angels brought in Zack Cozart and Ian Kinsler in the offseason instead of signing someone like Mike Moustakas. Was that the right move? What does the team do with struggling outfielder Kole Calhoun? Plus, we discuss how Angels fans view Albert Pujols as he approaches milestones and competitive games in September. Will the rotation or bullpen be a bigger concern moving forward?  Finally, Mike Trout. We talk think-pieces, Trout's Philadelphia connections and whether or not he needs to be marketed more.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

James Paxton and why no-hitters still matter | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1415

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. James Paxton threw a no-hitter on Tuesday for the Seattle Mariners in a 5-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, making it the third no-hitter thrown this season and it's only May 9. Does that mean, as some have suggested, that no-hitters are losing their aura? We don't think so and explain why no matter how many times hitters are striking out, the no-hitter is still special.  Segment 2 looks at the trade between the New York Mets and Cincinnti Reds sending Matt Harvey to the Reds and Devin Mesoraco to the Mets. For the Mets, they're getting a player at a position of need and the cost is a player they were willing to dump for nothing. It's hard to find something wrong with the trade from their perspective. But what about the Reds? Does this make sense for them? Finally, we look at the continued battle on the west coast between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers, albeit a one-sided battle thus far. The Dodgers wasted a good opportunity to build something positive last night. Will they be able to turn it around now that they don't play Arizona until August? Learn more about your ad choices.  Cardinals issue Cubs a reminder | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1344

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. As always, Monday means Power Rankings and a chance to look back and see which team had the best week in baseball.  This week, it's the St. Louis Cardinals coming off a sweep of the Chicago Cubs and undefeated week. Thanks to a pair of walk-off homers, the Cardinals issued the Cubs a reminder that they're still around and not ready to give up the division all that easy. Kolten Wong, Dexter Fowler and Co. sent Cubs fans into full panic mode while Cardinals fans will celebrate this one for a while.  The Yankees come in at No. 2 a week after taking the top spot a week ago. Hard to do better than 6-1 against the Indians and Astros. The Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies round out the top five.  The second segment looks at two teams with important weeks for different reasons. The Boston Red Sox will look to extend its division lead with series against the Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping just to survive this week without Clayton Kershaw.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The NL East is surprisingly competitive | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2116

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. It's the Friday edition of Locked on MLB, so start your weekend off with our podcast to get you ready for baseball. In Segment 1, we take a look at three series this weekend worth watching, as the Houston Astros visit the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals renew their rivalry (wait, it is still a rivalry right?) and the Washington Nationals meet the Philadelphia Phillies in an NL East battle. Speaking of the NL East, Joe Nocco joins the show in Segment 2 to discuss the New York Mets coming off a sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves. What's the biggest concern for the Mets? How big of a priority should the catching position be? Where do the Mets fall in the suddenly competitive NL East? Plus, what's next for Matt Harvey and how should fans react to him?  Segment 3 is a look at Albert Pujols as he approaches 3,000 career hits, how he's judged now and how he'll eventually be remembered.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Matt Harvey needs to do better but so do we | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1284

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. The story in New York this week is focused on Matt Harvey and what he did in San Diego, er actually what he did in Beverly Hills. According to a tabloid, Harvey went to Beverly Hills following a day game in San Diego before returning the next day in time for a night game. What happened in between is  unclear because the original report states two different things from two different random people, but baseball news media has treated it as fact that Harvey was acting irresponsible the night before a game. We discuss Harvey and how the story was aggregated throughout the internet and why it is all wrong.  Our second segment of the day looks at why the Arizona Diamondbacks are for real and the best regular season team in the National League.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Dodgers face conundrum with Corey Seager out | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1393

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. Things weren't going well for the Los Angeles Dodgers coming into the week. They only got worse on Monday when it was announced Corey Seager would miss the remainder of the season with a UCL injury that will force Seager to undergo Tommy John surgery. In Segment 1, we discuss how the Dodgers got here and what they can or can't do to get out of it. It starts with Manny Machado, but that might not be as likely as many fans expect.  In Segment 2, we take a look at newly-released odds for World Series, pennants, MVP and Cy Young courtesy of Bovada.  Learn more about your ad choices.  The Yankees aren't dead after all | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1481

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. Monday means it's time for Power Rankings to see who had the best week in baseball, but this week there is a bit of a twist. There weren't enough teams with good enough weeks to fill all 10 usual spots, so instead of rewarding those teams with a top-10 placement, we look at the eight teams worthy of a spot.  Sitting on a 9-game winning streak and coming off sweeps of the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Angels, the Yankees are on top and look like the team we all expected them to be. They hold the No. 1 spot over the San Francisco Giants, who finished the week 5-2 with a big weekend series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Seattle Mariners are third this week followed by the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates rounding out the top five.  The final segment is a look at the Los Angeles Dodgers and why they have the most important week in baseball. We'll see how everyone responds to Cody Bellinger's benching as the Dodgers hit the road for four games in Arizona against the Diamondbacks and a three game weekend set against the Padres.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Looking back at 2016 MLB Draft on NFL Draft weekend | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1619

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. With the NFL Draft taking place this weekend, let's look back at the 2016 MLB Draft. We run through each first round pick, providing updates and thoughts on players, why they were selected and who might want a re-do.  Segment 2 is a look at value picks made outside of the first round for each team, including Jon Duplantier, Austin Hays, Nicky Lopez, Corbin Burnes, Joey Lucchesi and Bo Bichette. If we re-drafted the first 5 picks, what would it look like? Segment 3 is a quick look at each series this weekend, including the Arizona Diamondbacks vs Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Indians vs Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Welcome to the Ronald Acuna Jr Era | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1327

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. Today is all about Ronald Acuna Jr., the top prospect in all of baseball making his Major League debut on Wednesday for the Atlanta Braves.  In Segment 1, we introduce you to Acuna, what he's done and what he's going to do, while also reminding you to stop making bad jokes about Triple-A and service time every time he makes an out.  Segment 2 looks at the future of the Braves, who have much of their core in place but still questions throughout their Major League roster. What do they have to see the rest of the season before deciding what to do in the offseason? When is it realistic to expect this team to make the postseason?  Segment 3 is a quick look at a handful of injuries that may impact your fantasy team.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Assessing the post-World Series Cubs and Indians | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1664

Welcome to Locked on MLB, your daily national podcast covering Major League Baseball as part of the Locked on Podcast Network hosted by Tommy Stokke. On the 20th episode of Locked on MLB we take a look at the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians, where they've been since meeting in the World Series in 2016 and where they're headed. Both teams made the playoffs last year but suffered disappointing finishes. One was more disappointing than the other.  The Cubs seem to have the safer, wider window, while the Indians could shut before we know it. What can they do to prevent it? In the second segment of today's episode, we look at the Baltimore Orioles and what a blow up might look like. We also compare their process to that of the Cincinnati Reds, who made mistakes along the way in their rebuild, mainly starting it too late. Are the Orioles suffering the same fate?
