Cincinnati Reds Injury Update: Jose Barrero Out Six Weeks and Lucas Sims Will Miss Opening Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2014

The Cincinnati Reds have already been bitten by the injury bug and Jose Barrero looks to be out for the first month. Jeff and Steve discuss what effect this will have on Barrero's title of shortstop of the future. They also look at which Cincinnati Reds receiver is the next man up as Lucas Sims will see the start of his season delayed. They then introduce a new segment: Three Up, Three Down, as they look at why Aramis Garcia has taken the top spot in the battle for second catcher, how good Nick Senzel has looked, as well as Nick Lodolo, and why the other second catcher candidates and outfielders aren't quite performing up to par. *SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonreds Also follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on Instagram Call or text (513) 549-0159 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  The Cincinnati Reds Shortstop Should be Jose Barrero | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2035

The Cincinnati Reds have spent the past few days gutting the roster, but one question still remains of the current players: why isn't Jose Barrero being penciled in as the shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds? Jeff and Steve discuss this in tandem with David Bell's comments to the media about his feelings on the subject. They then expand this into a conversation about the lineup and who the Cincinnati Reds can trust to produce. They also talk about what must be going through David Bell's mind with all this teardown stuff. Jose Barrero is the shortstop of the future. Kyle Farmer played admirably at shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds last year. His performance should not be distracting from the fact Barrero should get the majority of the playing time at shortstop, this year. David Bell even said his shortstop is Kyle Farmer. This is faulty thinking...but is he really just making a statement, or is he juggling locker room egos? With the questions about shortstop now seeming much smaller than simply, who will be in this lineup today, Jeff and Steve look at what aspects of the Reds lineup we know anything about. There are so many questions that it's worth remembering the Reds have their lead-off man, Jonathan India. They have key parts of the middle of the order in Joey Votto and Tyler Stephenson. They also have a right-handed pitcher killer in Tyler Naquin. Outside of that? Well, that's where David Bell will make his money managing the Cincinnati Reds. Speaking of David Bell, what on earth is going through his mind right now? Bell just signed a two year extension and now half his team is gone. How can we evaluate him, now, when the front office isn't trying to build a win-now roster? *SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonreds Also follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on Instagram Call or text (513) 549-0159 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  The Cincinnati Reds Signal a Rebuild by Trading Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suárez to the Seattle Mariners | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2045

The Cincinnati Reds have entered an all out rebuild...or at least that's what everything points to. Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suárez are now Seattle Mariners, a fact that Jeff and Steve still can't quite believe. They also can't believe Nick Krall who is saying this is not a rebuild and that the Cincinnati Reds will now be active in the free agent market. So the question is, with all the Reds actions leading to one conclusion, but their words trying to force you to a different conclusion, what happens next for the Cincinnati Reds? Will Luis Castillo or Tyler Mahle be traded? Will they actually sign free agents? *SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonreds Also follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on Instagram Call or text (513) 549-0159 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  The Cincinnati Reds Make a Good Move by Trading Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1838

The Cincinnati Reds traded Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins for Chase Petty, an 18-year old, right-handed pitcher. Jeff and Steve discuss the trade and the direction the Cincinnati Reds are about to head in. They look at why Nick Lodolo should be in the starting rotation on Opening Day, as well. The Reds acquired the first round selection, Chase Petty, from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Sonny Gray. Petty has a fastball that hits 102, a plus slider, and a developing changeup. With a bit of work on his command, he could be a stud pitcher in the future. The reason people are dismissing this trade as a bad one, though, is twofold. Firstly, because it doesn't seem like enough of a return for Gray and, secondly, because Petty is 18 and a long ways from the big leagues. Sonny Gray is no sure thing, though, and the trade was a smart move. With the trade, an opening in the starting rotation needs to be filled. Nick Lodolo is the only man for the job. If the Reds are going to commit to this track of trading away veterans with price tags, then the you phenoms deserve the playing time. Lodolo is ready and it's time for him to get major league innings. The direction of the Cincinnati Reds has fallen under scrutiny as many believed they should've spent to bridge what seemed like a small gap to be a playoff contender. The Reds front office has said they will not do that, which means they needed to re-position themselves for the no-so-distant future, which they've done. Nick Krall could just be a bit better at delivering the message, though. Major League Baseball Returns and the Cincinnati Reds Look Like a Third Place Team | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1859

Major League Baseball is back! Jeff and Steve break down the important facets of the new CBA that affect the Cincinnati Reds. They then talk about why the Reds look to be the third best team, as-is, in the NL Central. They look at what the Reds could do to change that and they say what they think the Reds will do first, now that the Lockout has been lifted. More MLB Lockout Shenanigans and Where the Cincinnati Reds Lineup Ranks in the NL Central | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2147

The MLB Lockout drones on as more games were cancelled on Wednesday. Jeff and Steve break down what happened in the CBA negotiations between the players and the owners and why they are now looking at an Opening Day of April 14. They also dig into the Cincinnati Reds lineup and tell you why they aren't the best in the NL Central, but they could be. Reports on the latest CBA negotiations by the players and owners, as of Tuesday night, were glowingly positive. The MLB Lockout was close to ending...or so we thought. Then another wrinkle was added by the owners that the players were not about to agree to, and the process, once again, got derailed. Who can we trust to report what is actually going on in these negotiations? Why does it seem as though the players were made out as the bad guys, this time around? When will we get baseball back? The Cincinnati Reds lineup, once we get baseball back, has some nice pieces. Jonathan India, Joey Votto, and Tyler Stephenson, as well as Jesse Winker and Tyler Naquin against right-handed pitchers, are all solid options. The rest of the lineup is a crapshoot. It's because of that Jeff and Steve don't see this as the best lineup in the NL Central...but it could be. The Reds could have the best lineup in the division if they make a move to bring in a right-handed hitting outfielder. They could even get a guy like Andrew McCutcheon to really solidify this group. Aristides Aquino just isn't cutting it, anymore. They also need a second catcher, behind Tyler Stephenson. However they go about filling those spots, this will be our first chance to really grade Nick Krall. The Cincinnati Reds May Be the Worst Fielding Team in the NL Central in 2022 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2068

The Cincinnati Reds punted fielding last year and traded away their best fielder, before the lockout, in Tucker Barnhart this year. Jeff believes that makes them the worst fielding team in the NL Central while Steve believes the Reds to be in the middle of the pack. They both make their case on today's show. With the question marks surrounding multiple positions, it's hard to see the Cincinnati Reds getting worse with new shift rules, but will they be better? One thing is for sure, Jose Barrero will have to be the everyday shortstop if the shift is banned. The outfield is also a huge question mark as two of the three spots remain fluid. The podcast finishes up with a bit of talk about expanded bases and what that might do for the stolen base, as well as the pitch clock and why it doesn't fix anything. David Bell's Tenuous Place Among NL Central Managers and Why the Cincinnati Reds Have Figured Out Player Development | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2069

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell has shown himself to be a solid, if unspectacular, manager. You're not going to sink with him, but he isn't going to be the sole reason the Cincinnati Reds win a World Series. Jeff and Steve discuss his place among the other NL Central managers on today's podcast. They also finish up their chat with Charlie Goldsmith, from the Enquirer, who is currently in Goodyear, Arizona, with the Reds non-40 man roster players. They talk about the Cincinnati Reds player development philosophy and why it is succeeding as well as some guys who are currently practicing in Goodyear who could help the Res get some wins in 2022. David Bell has a propensity to shuffle lineups and keep a fluid situation, in the bullpen. Jeff and Steve do not believe that is a mark against him, though, and maybe even a strength. Craig Counsel is soundly at the head of the NL Central manager pack, but David Bell isn't far behind, especially when you consider his ability to manage a clubhouse. For years the Cincinnati Reds failed at player development, but that is all different, now. With new guys like Shawn Pender, Bryan Conger, and others in place, the Reds development plan is winning. The Reds have success coming for them in the near future as they build a winning roster, in-house. Nick Lodolo, currently in Goodyear, is healthy and showing his quality. We all expect to see him in a Reds uniform at some point in 2022. Charlie Goldsmith has a few other names to keep on eye on, as they prepare for the season at the Reds Spring Training Complex. Non-roster invitees like Jake Bauers, Ronnie Dawson, Phillip Diehl, and Trey Wingenter could very well play a role in the Cincinnati Reds success in whatever season we get in 2022. Opening Day is Ways Away and the Cincinnati Reds Bullpen Doesn't Rank Well in the NL Central | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2272

Rob Manfred announced Tuesday that, due to the inability of the players and owners to come to an agreement on a new CBA, the first two series of the regular season will be cancelled. Jeff and Steve break down when they think Opening Day will actually happen and why it won't be until May, at the earliest. They talk about the big problem topics that the players and owners are far apart on, like the Competitive Balance Tax, the Pre-Arbitration Bonus Pool money, and the minimum salary. They then return to their NL Central rankings series and look at how the Reds bullpen stacks up with the rest of the division. Spoiler alert, it isn't good. The Cincinnati Reds and the Best Rotation in the NL Central and Charlie Goldsmith from Goodyear | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2153

The Cincinnati Reds have the talent to have the best starting rotation in the NL Central, provided everything goes right. Jeff and Steve explain why they feel this way. They also talk with Charlie Goldsmith, from The Enquirer, about what is going on for the Cincinnati Reds in Goodyear, Arizona, right now. They talk about the awesomeness of Elly De La Cruz, the resurgence of Austin Hendrick, the new position of Rece Hinds, the Reds ability to scout and develop catchers, Nick Lodolo's health, and more! Will Eugenio Suarez or Mike Moustakas Bounce Back and Save the Cincinnati Reds Hot Corner? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2362

Both Eugenio Suarez and Mike Moustakas played poorly in 2021, leading third base to be the Cincinnati Reds most expensive problem. Jeff and Steve talk about what they can do in 2022 to bounce back. They also do a segment of finishing each other's sentences, based on the Reds possibility for success. They then look at the solutions to tanking that the MLBPA has proposed in the most recent round of CBA negotiations. Eugenio Suarez and Mike Moustakas had, what can only be called, a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year in 2021. The Cincinnati Reds cannot be successful with their most expensive position floundering as much as it did. What can Geno and Moose do to bounce back, and is there another waiting in the wings, should things go south, like Alejo Lopez? If Kyle Farmer is the Reds everyday shortstop in 2022, the Reds... If Hunter Greene gets 25 starts for the Reds in 2022... If Nick Senzel does not play 130 games, or more, for the Reds in 2022... If a Reds relief pitcher does not get 10 or more saves, the Reds... The Owners have said they have nothing more to offer in negotiations. The MLBPA has offered plenty, including solutions to dissuade tanking by perennially losing ball clubs. The MLB CBA negotiations roll on as the Lockout continues with little hope of it ending. The Cincinnati Reds Bullpen has Two Leaders and a Whole Bunch of Questions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2274

The Cincinnati Reds bullpen was a thorn in the side of success in 2021, costing the Reds countless games. Nothing has been done to improve it, before the Lockout began, and as currently constructed has two studs and a lot of what-ifs. Jeff and Steve discuss why Lucas Sims and Luis Cessa are at the top of the food chain in this Reds bullpen. They also look at some guys who could jump into the upper echelon of trust, as Reds relievers go, like Art Warren, Tony Santillan, and Dauri Moreta.  The Face of the Cincinnati Reds and the Hope of Major League Baseball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2019

The Owners and the Players talked for five hours in order to get MLB a new CBA and lift the lockout. While an agreement was not reached, hope abounds. Jeff and Steve talk about the reasons for that hope. They also talk about the face f the Cincinnati Reds franchise, why it's Joey Votto now, and why it will be Jonathan India in the near future. They end today's podcast by taking a look out west to Goodyear, Arizona, where some non-roster players are getting some work in and encouraging Reds fans.
